GM Shawn, let’s get after it! 🤙🏽
Alex Mashinsky, former CEO of Celsius, famously said that self custody was more risky than using a custodian. He offered yield as a custodian and blew up. He’s now imprisoned for 12 years.
So when there a “cluster” of people all saying things like that and offering custodial yield, I’d call that the “Mashinsky Moment”, which could be used instead of the Minsky Moment. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minsky_moment
I don't get this reference.

Yup. It's a panel of suits and custodians. They even mentioned yield for Bitcoin.

Gm Shawn, have a great day
I have a wallet. Are you not seeing it? I’ve been getting zaps.
Nice. Appreciate it. I'd zap you, but looks like no wallet?
I got the Intex 10-foot pool with the aluminum frame back in 2020 when all the public pools were closed for Covid. We’ve used it for five summers and it has held up. Haven’t yet put it up this summer but I will. It does sometimes get small leaks, but they’re easy to patch with the adhesive water-proof patches. I drain it, dry it, and pack it up every winter.
Pro tip: put down a layer of 1” foam interlocking tiles (find them at sporting goods stores or online) then on top of that put down a thick tarp. THEN put the pool on top of that. It will protect the bottom from harm and it’ll feel nice and padded when you’re in it.
Idk man sounds blasphemous
I hear you. My guy’s 3+, so easing in.

A structural pool won't last forever but if well maintained can last several years, too. Still fiat compared to an actual permanent pool.

Was wondering something similar. If @npub130m…l29s opens up a marketplace, can we find ways to validate not just the provider, but the actual models?
If someone claims they are serving llama-7-foobar could we find ways to have a signature scheme on the responses and who is the trusted validator?
I get that at some point you have to trust something, but I’ve been bothered by the idea that people are just claiming “here’s a model endpoint” and they could inject whatever the hell they want.
How do I verify my agent that depends on llama-7-foobar and your agent that relies on the same will be in agreement (nefarious or not doesn’t matter).
Does @npub130m…l29s fix this?

Very true.
One of the more confounding statements she made was that "hard money loses as money. We saw that with gold."
It's very much a recency bias sort of thing to say.
Monetary metals won the battle against all other forms of money over thousands of years, and only in the last 200 years or so has paper money taken over and then been forcibly decoupled from gold.
It also shows an ignorance to why physical gold and silver lost out in the end. It had nothing to do with their scarcity, but their lack of portability. Scarcity was why they won out compared to other forms of money, but lack of sufficient portability in a time when humans began moving around a lot more was their downfall. And that is a trait Bitcoin does not share with gold.
Agreed. I think I can appreciate her perspective, being South African. There doesn't seem to be a great to be hopeful about, at present.
She has a bit of a black-pill outlook, at least in the short to medium term. "But you can make a lot of money shorting just about everything."
LOL THAT'S GREAT - THANKS

Alot of internal improvements for Coolr just pushed up.
- Better relay switching
- Small onboarding modal
- Clear all site data in settings (In case I screwed something up)
- Remembers your cached channels & messages when switching relays

Guessing you want more than just files on a drive and a player if you're looking after a large library.
Well it's a bit more involved, but I use Plex (with lifetime pass, it goes on sale) and then I have access to the awesome Plexamp app. It's a great music player where I can download my music onto my phone or just listen to it locally and it's got great file organization and features like artwork downloads. Then I can also access my own library from anywhere or give others access. Management is top notch.
Evolution of my huge music library management tools: Real Player Plus, Google Music (had to move when they swapped to the garbage that is Youtube Music), Plex. Management has always been the hardest thing to find! So many players with horrible management for large libraries.
A fine point. I mean music in my control. Big fan of Tailscale w/ @npub168e…9uaw

If you're referring to the Apple music subscription service, it very well might. I haven't looked into that. I'm really only interested in managing my own personal collection for use on my iPhone.
Yeah, I was definitely not recommended it for a fresh setup. 😅
FOSS Moood audio player and streamer made for Raspberry Pi, loving it! https://moodeaudio.org/
Oh and syncthing to have the files in mobile and backed up.
Though, the library is growing and size, and I need to filter out unrated/low rated songs from being synced to my phone to save on storage space with a live .stignore file.
What are the boundaries of non-streaming for you? Straight up one machine or local network?
Subsonic ecosystem + Tailscale is a match made in heaven for me to share NAS library across desktop, laptop, and car.
Maintaining my music library is a cherished hobby of mine. My end goal with my mp3s is to use a rust script I developed that will create playlists for me using a combination of predefined genre, intensity, and rating selections. I don't use any prebuilt solutions for this beyond individual utilities.
Overall, the process looks like this. But sampling each track to choose whether to keep it or not and then adjusting the ratings over time is an ongoing process of music appreciation:
- Soulseek to download flacs
- Ffmpeg converts flacs to mp3
- Mp3gain normalizes audio volume using ReplayGain tags
- Mp3s are moved into the library under Artist > album directories
- I manually massage the tags to confirm with the rest of my library
In Linux, I listen with Clementine because it lets me edit genres and ratings, as well as a random mp3 tag that I've repurposed as the intensity of the song, from soft to very heavy.
- For unrated songs, I'll go in and sample the tracks from about a quarter in and decide whether to keep or delete. If I keep it, I'll set the intensity and give it a one star rating.
- My playlist creation script regularly reads a JSON file with all the playlists I want and places songs that match the criteria into m3u files. The playlists mostly change when I change song ratings or add/delete songs.
On mobile, I use Poweramp or Retro Music, but I've always wanted to develop a player that will let me edit the tags I use for my playlists. Right now, all I can really do is listen to the playlists I autocurate on desktop.

Navigating the unraveling cycle of society
In this hard-hitting episode, @npub1clk…pup9 sits down with Bronwyn Williams, a South African futurist and economist, to dissect the collapse of trust in centralized systems.
Bronwyn analyzes how globalization and technology challenge institutional credibility, using South Africa’s governance struggles as a backdrop. She critiques AI’s centralizing risks, questions Bitcoin’s decentralized promise, and discusses ways businesses and individuals can rebuild trust.

Haha yea dude that is similar to my perspective. It is the type of thinking that only someone that is low agency and allergic to success could possibly embrace.
It should be the missing font. Let's see if AI can help you.😉
1. Use Photopea and Manually Install Custom Fonts
- **Reason**: Photopea is a free, browser-based tool that supports .psd files and text layer editing, closely resembling Photoshop’s experience. Your issue is that custom fonts are not loading, likely because they are not properly installed in the system.
- **Steps**:
1. Ensure your custom font files (.ttf or .otf) are downloaded.
2. Install fonts on Linux:
- **Ubuntu/Debian**:
```bash
sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/fonts/custom
sudo cp /path/to/your/font.ttf /usr/share/fonts/custom/
sudo fc-cache -fv
```
- **Fedora**:
```bash
sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/share/fonts
sudo cp /path/to/your/font.ttf /usr/local/share/fonts/
sudo fc-cache -fv
```
- Alternatively, manually copy the font files to `~/.fonts/` or `~/.local/share/fonts/`, then run `fc-cache -fv`.
3. Open Photopea (photopea.com) and load the .psd file.
4. Check if the font appears in Photopea’s font list. If not, try restarting the browser or clearing the cache.
5. If the font still doesn’t load, verify that the font file name exactly matches the font name specified in the .psd file (Photopea is case-sensitive to font names).

Until we have a viable YouTube-like client, sharing them in kind 1 is probably the way to go.
There is a video specific kind that allows for setting a video title, thumbnail, and description, but we don't have any clients that are built for it except Flare.pub, which is abandonware, and I think zap.stream, but it's not really optimized for browsing previously recorded content.

Lots of interesting chatter here in Australia about this
Some interesting points:
- this tax only effects under 1% of super funds
- this tax is not in place for judges and other “important state workers”
- the median super is under 100k aud
Point being, it’s been very easy to persuade both sides of the aisle as it only effects a tiny percentage of the population
Just watch it creep into the wider super industry though
Plus of course, the rich, the most productive, they will just leave if it’s really bad, much like my birthplace the Uk

Yeah, I hung on for about 3 years before I got sick of having every NC service melt down after every "stable" update. I gave a lot of my soul to NC admin. And now Tuta has implemented everything I was using it for, thankfully.
A few of used to play that back around 2012

I read some stories. I'm not sure how accurate the reporting is, but the numbers don't look sustainable.
Exactly what we need: acceleration. USA will take the cream of Australian refugees with open arms.

Experience shows demands have gotten people nowhere except yelling and screaming at each other, and repeatedly going to the polls to vote for more of the same, with just a different name.
Better to exit & build (ignore, bypass, and de-legitimize the state by exiting their bs systems and focusing on our own local ones, or creating them)

I have only one demand: the right to secession… otherwise it will come by force at the right time
That's why we don't negotiate. We need to make demands.
There is no negotiation with the state
Some more than others, no doubt, but the position of this article, the publication, and the organization behind it is that all states are such.

I see. It’s not a futile debate. Look at the countries who suffered hyperinflation. In the end, they all had to change the currency's denomination. It's a matter of time. I don't think it's time for a denomination change, but eventually it will be necessary to bridge the gap between the Bitcoin at the value of today and the ‘new’ Bitcoin. To be clear, I'm not suggesting a name change. That would be counterproductive, as there's an entire narrative built around the name.

If we used dike teeth for money, her head would be bashed in and her teeth would be removed with pliers.
Interesting enough, the average cost estimate for each tooth is about $5,000-$6000 USD. I would sell $12,000 USD in bitcoin to buy her two front teeth. Curious if she would make that deal. Also there is only one picture of her smiling where she shows her teeth, maybe she has secretly been selling them on the side and they are as common as a shitcoin.

If teeth market cap was the same as #btc
Then
$2,000,000,000,000/58 🦷/person / 8,000,000,000 🧍/ 🌎
= $4/tooth.
So if your pricing teeth like bitcoin, following bitcoins market, cap teeth are worth $4 bucks apiece I’ll give her four bucks each for all of her 32 adult teeth.

Can individuals reclaim power from overreaching institutions?
In this episode, @npub1clk…pup9 welcomes @npub15dn…3lfc Deputy Director of Consumer Choice Center and Fellow at Bitcoin Policy Institute.
Yaël unpacks how overreach during the pandemic exposed institutional distrust, why agencies like the CFPB often hinder innovation, and how Bitcoin and decentralized technologies empower individuals to reclaim control. From vaping to stablecoins, we explore how consumer choice and sound money are fueling consumer empowerment.

Essential was using a fairly stock verison of Android and it didn't have any bloatware. I think the Essential 2 may have needed some custom work as the screen is skinny. Yea it's incredible how much about your neat and tidy life changes.
Great to see you embracing the chaos of these seemingly infinitely curious and joyous little people. They really motivate us and put life into proper perspective: seeing the world with fresh eyes, embracing experiences, living in the moment and valuing the most precious and rare time. Early childhood is so brief and amazing, will pass you by before you know it and when it's gone you'll miss it. It's heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. The silver lining is that you're helping shape the person that likely loves you the most and that depth will grow and change in interesting and challenging ways. Looking back it's hard to imagine almost missing the opportunity altogether. It might have been the most significant chapter of life left completely unwritten. I'm just so thankful that it was.

Nostr CSR
Certified Sovereignty Respecter
Yet another service for Nostr B2B…
“Is your business looking to integrate your app with Nostr? (There are many benefits of doing so … we should talk) Whether you are building open source or closed, respecting end user sovereignty is CORE to earning trust and a dedicated Nostr user base for your app. More than just implementing Nostr NIPs, Certified Sovereignty Respecters have training, support, and software audit provided by one or more trusted CSR providers.“
Certified Sovereignty Respecter business apps will be trusted to do any or all of the following in a respectful manner … without loosing profit or sacrificing IP:
- navigate and make optimal use of the tangled web of Nostr NIPs
- handle proprietary content alongside public Nostr content
- run closed source software and black box algos over Nostr
- disclose their harvesting and use of public or private end user data
- make incremental use of and contribute back to open source projects.
Deeper brand recognition and a dedicated user following are just the beginning. For your business app, Nostr integration will also bring the following benefits:
- access to an unlimited network of FREE and OPEN user data from which you can harvest use as you please.
- avoid the liability of data ownership WITHOUT loosing access to collected data, by OFFLOADING “non essential” user data directly to the public network.
- freedom to build and distribute your app without API restrictions or platform gatekeepers … own your software AND any part the network on which it operates.
- FREE and OPEN access to collaborate and share data and software with a growing number of apps also using the Nostr network for their business.

I def want to do this with Brainstorm once I address some backend database problems. Only show Follow Packs from users whose GrapeRank scores are above some threshold. And if multiple users create Follow Packs on the same topic, then combine them to create a composite Follow Pack curated by your Grapevine, similarly to the way that Brainstorm (still in alpha) currently uses GrapeRank scores to generate composite, Grapevine-curated NIP-56 reports:

I do what I can for the good folks on Nostr
Understanding human nature isn’t optional…it’s core architecture
So here is the set up ..
Perplexity as no formal investments - but ideological alignment .. enables it use chatGPT or Deep seek ..
Anthropic as formal investments .. in case DOJ bars google to invest in AI ..
And Gemini - if everything goes fine .. and DOJ focus on legacy search monopoly ..instead of future products .
It is a plan !
Susan Wojcicki, former CEO of YouTube (a Google subsidiary), and Jeff Dean, Alphabet's chief scientist focusing on AI and an early member of Google Brain, have both reportedly invested in Perplexity AI.
While these are individual investments, they indicate some level of connection between individuals with close ties to Google and the AI startup.
while Perplexity AI is positioned as a competitor to Google in the search and AI space and has attracted significant investment from other major players, there is no readily available information indicating a direct investment from Google itself. Google's investment strategy in AI seems to focus on companies like Anthropic, alongside the extensive investments in Gemini
Notable thing is Perplexity founder worked directly under Larry Page as a core dev in Google search :-) ...one team !
Both have massive investments from Google .. I thought ! .
Just the way openAI is a front end of Microsoft.. cuz neither MS nor Goig can do such monopolistics..so they go around the visible ..

Almost looks AI generated!
TaaS
Trust as a Service
Businesses want Nostr NOT because all the people are here, but because EVERY business on Nostr benefits when OTHER businesses use Nostr. Growth will be exponential.
Nostr’s network of open and FREELY accessible user data is ONLY going to grow, WITHOUT the failure point of a central gate keeper. Sovereignty IS the attractor that makes this growth inevitable, BECAUSE of the low risk for end users AND the low cost of entry for businesses on the network.
Trust as a Service (customizable algos on demand) will allow ANY business to TAP into this global “database” of Nostr user data, offering customized trust scores and curated user lists for ANY business need or demographic, WHILE promoting sovereignty for end users.
Businesses WANT to limit their liability, when handling user data. Nostr allows them to offload more and more “non essential” user data directly to end user custody, without EVER claiming ownership OR loosing access to it. Everyone wins when users have more sovereignty over their PUBLIC data on the Nostr network.
With its free market of interconnected apps, unlimited NIPs, and sovereignty respecting user content, Nostr is the NATURAL solution for a B2B model offering TaaS.

Yeah that was different. That was internal bitcoin sends to cashtags which they turned off for some reason. I don’t think lightning addresses ever worked for most people. It was only enabled for a small group of internal people. With lightning addresses, you can send bitcoin from any lightning wallet.
primal is now using blossom and mirroring. Some people are running blossom using haven, a khatru-based relay. Haven doesnt support it because its not in khatru. And here we are 😅

Thank you! All new uploads will show up there, yes, as long as you have sufficient space (you can check). We will add blossom specific interface later, that will show you free space uploads too
This is the only one they I've ever used. Thanks again. So I I became a paid user again, my mirrored images would show up in your dashboard?
Blossom comes with provisions to do that, we just don’t have that yet. Some web clients support it and probably more available https://bouquet.slidestr.net/
Okay. Thank you for looking into this. I don't have a problem renewing. However I'm thinking about new and inexperienced users here. They won't be able to see and manage their mirrored images unless they pay?

You account expired on 2025-03-25 00:00:00 and by default all uploads go to fee uploads pool. Thats the reason. The media is mirrored
Thanks for looking into all of this. I appreciate it.
Maybe it's an issue with my account then not showing the images for some reason @nprofile…hmg2?
Yes, 404 is the correct response when not supported. Not sure about nostr.build account, though. I can see successful responses in the logs for blossom.band mirroring.
I don't see the images showing up on my nostr.build account? I thought you hey would show up? And the 404 would make sense I guess if Haven is missing that endpoint?
They don't support BUD-04; I believe someone mentioned this earlier.
I just checked your blossom list - mirroring is failing only to your private blossom server, returning an HTTP 404 response from server.
Not yours to fix, fren. Just checking to see if it was a known issue.

Nope. Removed and still doesn't work.

Good catch.
If I had to guess, and it is most definitely a guess, it's simply a matter of competing priorities. It's hard to get leadership's attention with an interesting little p2p project when you're busy earning billions elsewhere.
Interesting. The holepunch repos ostensibly host the code for all of the services which power an app like Keet but there’s quite a bit going on.

The entire stack being built on their own JavaScript runtime might also be targeting the wrong developer profile for more low level distributed networking/comms.

If you can just drop them in, then @nprofile…dlnm's nak ( https://github.com/fiatjaf/nak ) will do that for you, at least if you setup nostrfs and copy them in.
if you need to translate hugo shortcodes or other stuff, then it's not quite solved yet
Curious where you see them being advertised?
Custom feeds, like in primal, is DVMs under the hood. There’s a web of trust one gaining momentum. Space is still early
I'm with you there, but I see them being "advertised" as a feature. If they're truly to be hidden/abstracted away, great. But how are they exposed in UIs?
But normies don’t use DVMs directly just like don’t use APIs?
Hard disagree. It may be good for devs, but it's gibberish to a normie.
It’s a good name… but it’s a vending machine. Vending machines are dumb. They do one thing. You give them money they give you candy, or in this case, data.

fuck copyright. also fuck spotify and all the gigacorps and their fucking copyright abuse, the amount of retardation they caused to the advance of computer science is immeasurable
IMO copyright is a violation of the Statute of Monopolies anyway, though that's not in effect in 'murica it applies to nz, au, canada, etc, as if you read their constitutions they grandfather in the old british statutes
Does it actually handle dead links though?
That doesn’t make it a good design.
That actually makes sense, alright then

Appreciate the nuanced response. There’s the ideal state, and the reality of the current situation. That’s what has me stuck in what feels like a contradiction of self in supporting this decision.
Right. I believe the anarchist position would be no state, and hence no state intervention/anti-trust regulations. If crApple violates anyone's natural rights, one should have recourse to a truly independent, non-state arbitrator/court.

I need access to channels that aren't publicly available, but thanks anyways!
It is unionized but change is coming. There are plenty of options out there for communicating and advertising - which is what most of what the mail is. It exists bc it works. People respond to advertisements via mail.
This is good constructive feedback, and totally agree
There are some "DVM" use cases that make sense, but framing it as this super generic tool that encompasses all "machine" use cases is absurd and counterproductive. Also trying to have a single spec for everything hurts all the use cases at the same time. The specs aren't even machine-readable (unless you're paying Sam Altman to read them for you).
If someone wanted to write a "DVM" that did one thing that person should have done that one thing, not called it a DVM, and we could have created a standard for it if it was useful, or not, maybe that machine job was a proprietary spec that didn't need standardization, maybe it would fit in some other NIP and enhance it, each case is different.
Yes, it is. I got nothing back. Will do.

All you can do is mute...that was the point
Hmm. All I see is the ability to add or remove a profile to/from a list.
"And that's how Shawn nuked his nostr account." 😆
The best tool for editing or deleting your Nostr lists is nostr.band.
Go to your profile > Lists
You can edit follows, mute lists, and custom curated lists easily.
Clean interface, works with most clients.
For mobile users:
Amethyst (Android) and Damus (iOS) let you manage basic lists like follows and mutes, but not full custom lists.
In all honesty, prolly vibe code a script that calls nak 😅. Place all your nostr entities in some file and then run the script with that file as input
Experimentation is necessary and wonderful. But so is knowing when to cut bait. And while I hear those who say we aren't in competition with X, Bluesky, etc... eh, yeh, but we are. For time and attention.
Quality of UX >> bells and whistles
Agree. I did attempt to jump on the DVM band waggon a few times. But I found it too complex in the end. A simple machine to machine system that has nostr and lightning in the mix, I'm all for, though!
Thanks for your support, Kontext. Delighted to hear you're enjoying it.

Is there a reason Amethyst couldn't send to the receiver's public inbox relays if they don't have a DM inbox relay set up? As outbox (hopefully) becomes more widely adopted, the likelihood that the receiver shares relays with the sender will get smaller over time.
added to my #tanelhasnt list 💜
🫂 There are many ways, John. Many many ways.
Albanese are best, especially the sour.
If the receiver doesn't have a DM relay, it sends to all relays of the sender in the hopes that the receiver shares some of those relays.
I'm jealous of these extra-nostr relationships. My meatspace experience has been lacking, note to self: improve meat.
A must try, t. Life changing. 😄
I've never even seen these, they don't have them here atleast 🤯
The idea of it sounds incredible

@npub1gcx…nj5z what does amethyst default to for DM outbound?
I was sending it from Amethyst. It failed at first but it went through but couldn’t find the DM Primal or Damus.
Which ones now, let's get down to the details
Tbh, might need to do a tierlist on this
