As an individualist, it breaks my brain to think that this “must be” the case. But even as (arguably) eusocial as humans have evolved to be, preservation of self is still the primary driver for every individual.
“Nobody cares” is not a statement about myself, or my beliefs or judgements. It’s a simple extrapolation from this fact that people “mostly” care to preserve themselves.
As an individualist, i fully support this. I believe that “better humans make better society” and that “better” is best made by an individual rather than anyone else.
But this puts me in an awkward spot when i (as a social human) do sometimes feel that “nobody cares” about the world in which i live.
My world view is mine alone to enjoy.

It’s hopeless.

Users on the Nostr network are no different than any other social network. Most of us interact minimally with each other, and when we do it’s usually with the loudest voices. Zapping is cute, but it only makes me sadder to see such real value tossed to the same popular users over and over again.
Is it because “influencer” content is higher quality, or they work harder at it than so many other brilliant voices on this network? I don’t think so.
This is my only “pessimistic” take about all of Nostr, and it’s not even about Nostr.
Humans are followers. It’s not a bad thing, except for the fact of when we ban together to dethrone the “centeral power structure” … it never actually 💯 works this way.
Sad but true. 😢

Yes. Everybody is valuable. Until they die. Then only the things they’ve built and the ideas they’ve shared with others (including god) are all that is left to value.
Technology (the evolution of human consciousness) is what we have made, and is the most valuable thing we can pass onto future generations, no matter whose babies they are.
I may be full of bullshit, but I will always respect you and everybody else I meet in this short life. That is my small but valuable gift.

So what is “the point” you refuse to give in to?
My point is that “global population decline” is a manufactured fear and that attention to “bettering ones impact on society” will be at least as useful for humans “on aggregate” as making more babies.
I don’t think we actually disagree here, or even on the fact that making babies is in general an important activity for humanity to continue with.
Maybe we disagree on the effect that regional demographics might have on the global population? … I’m not sure.

I think this is the wrong inquiry.
Sovereign Nostr users have demonstrated that they value “personalized” more than “client curated” follow recommendations.
A better inquiry (imho) :
“Please suggest high signal (and open source) WoT algos for recommending new follows based on a users current activity and followed friends.”
Top two or three algos (we are building nip51 list generators) can be added as another row of buttons to your “explore” tab under “from your web of trust”
If your concern is “the new user” who “has no friends on Nostr yet”, then even this can be handled without resorting to “client curated” recommendation lists.
The “trending users” and “recommended follows” static lists on Primal are the source of endless humor on Nostr.
Srsly. We are scrappy, but we can help.

Technology is arguably the most impactful thing that humans have ever created. Regardless of biological inheritance, the individual contributions each of us make in a lifetime (in the things we create and the words we speak and write) will propagate across many generations BECAUSE of human technology.
To even acknowledge that humans have “something special” over animals, is to recognize the evolutionary power of our technology to shape society and the world around us in ways that baby making will never touch.
Babies are just cannon fodder for technological growth.

Custom feeds based on NIP-51 npub lists?
@npub1u5n…ldq3 is wrangling me in to help get brainstorm.ninja publishing (hopefully dynamic) “suggested users” lists based on shared interest and WoT score. This will be a CROSS CLIENT tool that EVERYBODY can make use of to build THEIR OWN custom interest feeds.
Wondering what native clients ALREADY or will SOON implement NIP-51 lists for user generated custom feeds?
@npub1n0s…k6h0 has custom feeds, but only relay based so far. Are NIP-51 npub lists just around the corner @npub1n0s…lahe ?

Some group deciding that “this is the official standard” is not the way Nostr works.
Ostensibly, “anybody can implement Nostr in any way at any time”. In practice, however, Nostr DOES have a centralized NIP repo that MOST people respects as the defacto standard.
Maybe we’re not ready for a decentralized KB architecture, but this proposal IS in the spirit of Nostr.

Bitcoin and government(s) are codependent, and NGU window will eventually close as a result. From my naive perspective, @npub1m4n…c2jl is spot on.
To succeed as a medium of exchange, replacing or augmenting fiat in the “real world”, Bitcoin will need cooperation by government(s). And, as long as “number go up”, government(s) will increasingly be attracted to regulate or make use of Bitcoin as a store of value.
These trends are already noticeable today.
At some point (after elites have invested) the value of Bitcoin over fiat will be moderated. This may be accomplished “artificially” by price regulation, so that the “common folk” have some chance to catch on before price goes “to the moon”. Or it may simply be the “musical chairs” result of a hard drop into Bitcoin standard. Either way, the “fun times” of dramatic price fluctuation will be over. (maybe around the time a reserve is made?)
As long as government is involved, “never too late to get rich from Bitcoin” is a blind fantasy. We have a window. It could be closing already.
That’s my uneducated take… what’s yours? Tell me how NGU will be forever and benefit everyone.
