Feel that. Actually since becoming a bitcoiner I live poorer now then I ever have before (old car, small apt, skip meals etc)
This is while working 60 hours a week at a high level job, but fiat was always going to make me poor, it just took a little longer than expected.
The crazy thing is without bitcoin that was still gonna happen, but now we all have a chance to make it. it might take awhile and be a struggle all the way there, but we will make it.

Not well informed sounds exactly like the market we have today 🤣. I like the idea of open banking (non central bank) credit systems. I recently rewatched Ip man about the legend who trained Bruce Lee. Before the war he was a wealthy man in his community and lent money to people in his town to start businesses and grow capital. I imagine ecash mints like that.

If you hold the ecash from the mint on your npub and the mint shuts down, can you still sweep to lightning? Could you swap to ecash from another mint and melt the ecash from the closed mint? Or would the ecash show invalid if you tried that with the mint closed.

Well considering everyone uses one J.P. Morgan mint right now I would say even if there were only 100 mints that would be 100 times better.
But every company or group could run their own, that's the beauty of being on lightning, any amount of mints are interoperable so you don't have to trust any foreign custodian, you can use your own company or community.

Morning thoughts:
I think it will always be true that individuals and groups of people won't like each other.
Rule of law is meant to prevent ANY individual or group from deciding if another group or individual has a place in society. This includes the rights to life, liberty (make your own choices) ownership of your labor (money, property, etc)
We get into trouble with the rule of law starts to protect or elevate one specific group over another, rather then the protection or all groups by everyone.

Simplicity is an engineering super power. It's why manufactured goods peaked and have been on a decline in quality. We aren't creating better systems, just adding "features" and complexity which make things worse.
I think we are seeing a return to quality over quantity. To minimalism and reducing consumerism through coalescing around the best quality.
I think Bitcoin raising the bar on the cost of capital will naturally weed out the junk and only quality and simplicity will survive.

My fav part was you can't prevent bitcoin from coming any more then you could stop time. Bitcoin is inevitable, but not for everyone. Reminds me of @npub1qny…95gx on rhr the other day saying in spite of all his efforts only his brother in law became a bitcoiner. No one becomes a bitcoiner until THEY want it.
I've been talking about it non stop for almost 5 years and only my old roommate is kinda on board, but he still owns ETH and has his bitcoin on coinbase. And he's way ahead of everyone else I interact with. The winds of change take time.

I think a good amount of people consider bitcoin a bubble, or inflated, and expect it to crash. I think this a misunderstanding of what a bubble is. A bubble in houses, tech, cars, etc are from allocating value above the utility value of the asset, thus creating a monitory value on top of the utility value.
With bitcoin the utility value is monitory, so it's more of a pure measure of how much society values sound money. Sure speculators can leverage in the short term and deceive the market, but all that does is call more attention to it, and when someone takes a close look they don't often go back.

I love this idea! Im pretty sure most people don't scroll global feed because spam is just data you don't want to see. Having a layer of speech that means enough to the person to pay for it doesn't negate global or totally open speech from existing, it just allows for another layer of filtering for the signal if you want that.

As someone who has learned a great deal from both saif and saylor I really appreciated this conversation.
My main objection with saylors view is that he's trying to use decentralized money in a centralized world, and I don't think that works.
He said that bitcoin is an asset that we issue capital on top of, but I disagree, bitcoin is the capital, it is the money, it is the medium of exchange.
You can't issue yield in bitcoin and issuing yield in fiat is just more of the same shit. Let that way of thinking perish along with the banks as we know them.
