I had a person very close to me that I care about decide to buy a whole BTC at $25k. They delayed and it popped to $35k. They committed to themselves again at $40k, but talked it over with their CFA and got talked out of it. They are off zero but have well under 0.1 BTC at this point.

Legacy social media will either integrate a decentralized protocol like Nostr or fade.
Platforms or clients that haven’t integrated a Nostr-esque protocol are walled gardens that will be further encouraged by state authorities to censor.
Not only is a decentralized protocol like this freedom and self sovereignty to users, but they offer platforms footing when they argue that they are detached from their content.
Will any legacy social media platform be first to integrate an open social protocol alongside their existing users and content? I think if it were anyone it would be X, but I don’t see it boosting their earnings, just other social benefits.

I use @npub12vk…pugg and it doesn't deliver iOS notifications right now. @npub1pu3…tfch has notifications that pop through since I'm logged in there too, but Nos alerts often don't come if I don't open the Nos iOS app during the day. I run a relay, but I don't use android. I presume there's nothing in Pokey for me yet?

My take is that it’s way simpler. MSTR is doing what the German Inflation King did, but with Bitcoin instead of companies and land. Borrowing the shit out of fiat at way low rates for a long long term to buy Bitcoin and hold indefinitely. The future complicated part is the business model that is Bitcoin Bank-ish, and you don’t need to understand that for a looong time. The near term complexity doesn’t matter because that’s just to get the rate low and the term long. The value proposition is the easy part to understand.

He knows it is layers. Self custody is the foundation. Exchange held is a service layer. ETF is a disconnected, fee’d, access-to-spot-value layer. MSTR is a jetfueled next tier layer. Derivative products are a further disconnected layer.
He gets all of this. He’s talking about its evolution, and I don’t find it a stretch.
The future bank-style service layers will get safer for noobs and cheaper for leverage access, etc. Just like the dollar is layer after layer of financial services, transaction channels, and derivative products, BTC will mimic this naturally as it integrates with finance. It’s just unable to be debased.
Bitcoin wouldn’t have been invented if the dollar wasn’t being debased. That’s the dollar’s real issue. Not the products that surround it. Some products will serve is well, and others will fail with a product that has the characteristics of Bitcoin. We’ll see what peripheral instruments are good and which ones fail.

Dropping a Bitcoin education resource today.
I wrote this to give to people in my own community that should know more about what Bitcoin is and will be. “Why The Future is Bitcoin” is the title. What’d you think that stood for? *smh* …It’s short. 100 pages. It’s an overview.
Local government. Local utility leadership. Local wealthy that should be stacking. Local pension managers. A rising tide floats all boats. Teach where you live.
It touches on a lot of angles of the landscape that Bitcoin will intersect with. Each element links to more in-depth detail by QR code. It is written to clear up some of the tech mystery by explaining some details and it touches on as many facets of politics, energy, freedom, economy, and technology where Bitcoin disruption will likely impact. Each topic has its own QR code drill down when the reader wants more.
If you know someone that should have one, I have a few extras in hand. A 29k sats zap gets you one and I’ll mail it to any US address that you want it sent to. Just DM where you want it mailed.
I’m excited to be a part of educating those who are interested but don’t know where to start. This opens up answers at their own pace in the easiest way possible.

I added a bug report on GitHub to clarify the use to duplicate it, but I don’t know if it’s the best repo to reach the right dev or not:

Priorities shift markedly.
I remember when my son was born and I saw him first open his eyes and it was clear how much of a blank slate he was.
I realized in that moment, my job was to not fuck him up. And that he wouldn’t get the most input from my words. He would only be taking in my example that I lived in his presence and be guided by the environment I developed around him.
A great responsibility that changed my life lens.
He will be 18 shortly and plans to graduate high school this year.

I hear you, but that’s akin to thinking ‘why do I need a 1st amendment, I can say what I want’. Or ‘why do we need the 2nd amendment, we already have some guns’.
The adoption of it as law is to shut down the federal fight against privacy products, which is an end-run at prohibiting the exercise of the rights we know we possess. These charges brought against privacy product developers in the Bitcoin space is an encroachment against a right we know we have, but that isn’t constitutionally protected, and could become explicitly illegal or merely implicitly by allowing precedent to dictate outcomes in court. Let’s not leave it to the lawyers of bureaucrats to determine the fate of those developers that face charges for doing no wrong to people, rather only being guilty of restricting the power of the state.

I run a @npub126n…e9ll and their built in marketplace’s #Nostr #relay application with a private relay set up. I’ve whitelisted my npub for my app usage to allow writing to it.
But, I can’t seem to use it.
I use @Nos.social , @Primal , and @Nostur on iOS, and @NoStrudel on the Start9. Among the iOS clients I can’t get the ws:://***.onion address to work in my relay settings, nor do I know where my iOS apps will default write my posts to.
I also want my relay to permanently store my content. But I don’t know how it can be configured to do that.
Would love more clarification on how to set this up.

Last month I got interviewed by police for 4 days after arriving in Paris. I was told I may be personally responsible for other people’s illegal use of Telegram, because the French authorities didn’t receive responses from Telegram.
This was surprising for several reasons:
1. Telegram has an official representative in the EU that accepts and replies to EU requests. Its email address has been publicly available for anyone in the EU who googles “Telegram EU address for law enforcement”.
2. The French authorities had numerous ways to reach me to request assistance. As a French citizen, I was a frequent guest at the French consulate in Dubai. A while ago, when asked, I personally helped them establish a hotline with Telegram to deal with the threat of terrorism in France.
3. If a country is unhappy with an internet service, the established practice is to start a legal action against the service itself. Using laws from the pre-smartphone era to charge a CEO with crimes committed by third parties on the platform he manages is a misguided approach. Building technology is hard enough as it is. No innovator will ever build new tools if they know they can be personally held responsible for potential abuse of those tools.
Establishing the right balance between privacy and security is not easy. You have to reconcile privacy laws with law enforcement requirements, and local laws with EU laws. You have to take into account technological limitations. As a platform, you want your processes to be consistent globally, while also ensuring they are not abused in countries with weak rule of law. We’ve been committed to engaging with regulators to find the right balance. Yes, we stand by our principles: our experience is shaped by our mission to protect our users in authoritarian regimes. But we’ve always been open to dialogue.
Sometimes we can’t agree with a country’s regulator on the right balance between privacy and security. In those cases, we are ready to leave that country. We've done it many times. When Russia demanded we hand over “encryption keys” to enable surveillance, we refused — and Telegram got banned in Russia. When Iran demanded we block channels of peaceful protesters, we refused — and Telegram got banned in Iran. We are prepared to leave markets that aren’t compatible with our principles, because we are not doing this for money. We are driven by the intention to bring good and defend the basic rights of people, particularly in places where these rights are violated.
All of that does not mean Telegram is perfect. Even the fact that authorities could be confused by where to send requests is something that we should improve. But the claims in some media that Telegram is some sort of anarchic paradise are absolutely untrue. We take down millions of harmful posts and channels every day. We publish daily transparency reports (like this or this ). We have direct hotlines with NGOs to process urgent moderation requests faster.
However, we hear voices saying that it’s not enough. Telegram’s abrupt increase in user count to 950M caused growing pains that made it easier for criminals to abuse our platform. That’s why I made it my personal goal to ensure we significantly improve things in this regard. We’ve already started that process internally, and I will share more details on our progress with you very soon.
I hope that the events of August will result in making Telegram — and the social networking industry as a whole — safer and stronger. Thanks again for your love and memes 🙏

I’ve been applying this same logic to those saying we hit a pre-halving all time high. Adjust the chart for inflation and we haven’t hit all time highs in 2024. We’d be looking for $83k for a comparative all time high. That guy that talks about the 5.3 theory and the bitcoin diminishing returns put the estimated high for this bull cycle to be at $84k, which adjusted for the recent drastic inflation spike since 2020 puts that at an adjusted high target of $102k. Numbers get wonky when you add so many variables and still try to predict outcomes. Good luck if you’re trading.

Great tip! To avoid this, consider running your own copy of @npub18d4…6lt3 on your @npub126n…e9ll server (super easy setup) that you can hit when needed with a Tor browser at your own Mempool instance’s .onion address. This lets you search any address and view its resulting QR code. Not to mention the other benefits of having a Start9 running, like your own Nostr relay, Bitcoin core node, Lighting node, etc. it’s nice to have this bundled so I don’t have to feel like I have a new IT job just to have these benefits. Highly recommended.

I'm biased to Bitcoin-only wallets. So if money matters, I think you'd enjoy the Trezor Safe 3, and install the Bitcoin-only firmware when given the choice of firmware upon setup.
If money matters less and $200 isn't too much for securing your bag, I absolutely love the @npub1s0v…pq6j Passport 2. It ticks all the boxes for me and has more features that I thought I needed, but have grown to love.
My criteria: UX, Bitcoin-only, expected hardware service life, hardware quality feel, high security specs, screen size, button or input accessibility, software UI for setting up and transacting, air gapping from laptop/phone for added security, level of open source, ease of firmware updates, country of manufacture and other things that increase my trust or joy, and decrease my fear of loss and frustration of tech.
Source: I bought 6 the most recommended wallets to make this decision after wanting to move away from my Ledger (Coldcard, Bitbox02, Jade, Passport, Ledger, Trezor Safe 3, Keystone Pro). I tried them all in hand. I also liked and still enjoy using the Bitbox02, kept as a duplicate of a wallet. I haven't had the Coldcard Q in hand, my test was before that release. Also, the Trezor Safe 5 came along after. I'd love to play with these, but am quite happy at this point with the Passport 2. I was intrigued by the Ngrave, but it was a bit much to toss in at $400. Ask any questions you want. I'll answer what I can of these.
