"The Library of Babel" by Jorge Luis Borges

is the the story that got me into Borges' work. it's an incredible work of fantasy that illuminates much about humanity by casting us into a strangely different universe, that of the infinite library of hexagonal rooms, each filled with books that contain seemingly random and non-repeating strings. the people aluded to in the story have different and illustrative takes on the situation.
I will not be the first person to compare the library to the world hashes. the world's bitcoin private keys are all printed in this library, the true identity of Satoshi is there, along with proof of the falsity of his true identity.
it is an even easier leap to apply the library to nostr. the whirl of hashes all mapping to meaningful information, it's the great book that explains the meaning of the library that some where searching for. there actually is meaning in there.
and like all bitcoin private keys, every note that can ever be composed is listed in the library.

I can understand if the anwer is "yes", as there are many technologies which seem antiquated compared to the nostr-way, but they may be crucial bridges to onboarding people and content.

I'm pulling in RSS feeds and publishing articles for each item. when I do so, I set the published_at date to the same as that of the RSS item, but leave the created_at date on the event to be the present. this seems like the most protocol-respector way of doing it. but now I am running into the pain of returning articles from a certain date, filters can generally be made to apply to the presence or absence of tags, but not "since" or "until" type of operations on the "published_at" tag.
tl;dr - are there any obvious drawbacks to back-dating the events so I can filter appropriately at the relay layer?

yes, they could still transact on the earth-chain, but could never mine blocks out there. the horizon is some sliver under 10 light-minutes away, as you couldn't submit a block in time. sometimes you might sneak one in, but you're playing at a huge disadvantage as even when you got a block, you'd likely not get it the rest of the network in time.

in your original post, you mention letting it go for 4-5 hours and then wrapping. a better way to decide when to wrap is to base it on temperature. you will want to get it up to 165 or so internally before wrapping. then the goal is to get it up to ~203 for the final breaking down of collagen. once you hit that point, sticking the temperature probe in should feel like it's going into warm butter, no resistance after you poke through the wrap. then take it off and rest for as long as you can. serve when internal temp hits ~140. the slower it takes to cool down, the better situated will be the fat and juices.

I am glad to have a reasonable conversation.
I agree that the file format is not a problem. It successfully conveys the information we need. And indeed, it could be copied to multiple places, signed, etc.
My point is that the same job can be done in a much better way if it were #NOSTRNative. One aspect is that RSS is a polling process where the file is downloaded at a regular interval and scanned for new contents. This paradigm is inverted by nostr, where an event can be published when there is new content, eliminating the wasteful traffic spent polling.
You are right that relays still depend on domain names and servers. I just think that NOSTR will offer a better pathway to substrate independence and uncensorability.
The pathway to a better version of what RSS is trying to accomplish will be found in using NOSTR directly, rather than reimplmenting some kind of identity and auth scheme for RSS.
My guess is that most of the blogs and podcasts I follow will one day originate as NOSTR notes and get syndicated into RSS feeds by services offering such. I am working on just such a service myself. I don't want someone like you to have to choose. I want the content to be addressable in whatever format you prefer.

I hope we can get to the time when we don't need RSS anymore. I agree it is decentralized and serves us well even today. but the paradigm of an NPUB being the source of a stream of verifiable notes that contain blog posts, podcasts, any of these things, that's where we should be going.
At the moment you either need to have your own domain or rent space on someone else's to get an RSS feed stood up. While DNS has not yet been fully weaponized, I think we all realize that it can and will be some day. the NPUB separates our content, or at least our reach, from that system. along with all the other obvious benefits.

there's not really a facility for uploading files directly inside of notes. you can add a URL to a note, or even use a file metadata note to point to that URL.
if you are looking for some other way to store files, try looking into the blossom server spec from people like @nprofile…acju and @nprofile…rnkd

is anyone working on nostr native podcasts? I imagine an NPUB being the root of of a feed. with articles/nip-23 notes being the equivalent of "items" in a standard RSS feed.
the "eclosure" part of the feed, which contains the mimetype and URL of the audio file. I can see this being a reference to a file metadata note, kind 1063, with a URL and mimetype encoded in tags there. but I can also imagine a specific mp3 url tag, `mp3`, or something like that. the idea for not just including the link in the body of the article is so that a nostr-only podcast app could parse the audio file link out of the note without having to grok the body of the article.
any thoughts out there?

I am an avid obsidian user and can identify with this use case. I use 4x6 index cards as bookmarks, and I write my notes on those. Then when I'm done I transcribe them.
epub can absolutely be held in a sovereign way. I just happen to have problems retaining information read from ebooks. there's something about the physical instantiation of the book that helps my brain index into it. When I recall something, a passage or whatever, I usually have a sense for physically where it was located in the book. That is, left or right side of the fold, towards the front, middle, or back of the book. upper middle or lower part of the page.
