I failed so far. It claims duplicate nostr plugin detected, I had to use socat to get the web interface and the I get errors about No API key found for provider "anthropic". even though I used ppq's config block. So frustrating. I wish I had an agent to fix it.

I see how it could be implemented with some mod team but the entry point could be a "sub owner" but with overlapping subs.
Alice likes Bitcoin and goes to nostr/Bitcoin (kind-11 with t-tag=Bitcoin) but there's a lot of spam and "spam", so she decides to clean up the space. She reacts with ✅ and 🚩 to approve or block.
n/Bitcoin gets too busy, so Alice invites Bob on her team. She updates her moderation (d-tag bitcoin) file to include Bob.
Charlie disagrees with Alice on how to moderate and builds their own moderation team.
Now people can choose to see n/Bitcoin, Alice/n/Bitcoin or Charlie/n/Bitcoin.
But how about voting? To make the system work for people new to nostr, voting works through who Alice or Charlie follow. The strongest votes are Alice and Charlie's and then come their follows and their follows' follows.
Votes are +1 and -1 but anybody can ✅ and 🚩 mark posts and replies, suggesting the moderator copy their marking or maybe add them as moderators to instantly give weight to their markings for all others.
So your client would not show posts you marked with 🚩. It works as an instant hide. Your client lets you delegate approval/blocking to others or others and their teams.
Voting/approval/blocking could be weighted using my follows, Alice's follows, a mix of Alice's and Charlie's follows, the different mod teams, ... The client could decide to never consider blocks that are not my blocks or treat new posts as blocked, too until approved.
This feels like the simplest logic that might actually work and post collection could start with the sub "owners". Get Alice, Alice's team, all the team's approvals and referenced kind-11 posts, all their follows and their votes.

WhiteNoise does private groups and should work well with public relays. Non-group-members should learn nothing about group conversation or whether a message is from one group or another. Other standards use less crypto but promise privacy through relays keeping details private. I clearly prefer the former approach.

I try to sway influencers towards a concept where relays are just some sort of ether that allows us to broadcast events (together with relays getting paid for the physical and legal burden of delivering these messages ideally on a per-CPU-cycle basis, anonymously) and fear big clients might embrace, extend and extinguish core properties of nostr by driving monolithic relay use.
I can't dictate the way but I can make some noise to warn of dangers of centralizing relay use patterns. I just don't want people to celebrate a moderation team in a stack that makes it hard to avoid their moderation.

The only way I see to make moderated relays palatable to me is if they allow mirroring all events to a backup relay. So if relay A censors valid opinions on r/Bitcoin again, relay B can serve the same topic with different policy and take over those who get censored at A. People agreeing with this moderation can remain at A but people at B won't miss out on all the other notes that aren't censored at A.
Ideally clients would allow following topics on more than one relay at a time.

Thanks! That sounds a lot more complicated. So in Keychat when you add a third person to the chat, you switch from Signal chat to Signal group chat and when the tenth joins you switch to MLS? That also looks a bit complicated and spicy to implement without surprises for the users especially if each tier works slightly different.
If MLS does work for 10000 users, it surely does for 2 or not? How consistent are these groups on a non-consistent protocol like nostr?

I don't mind having moderation but it should not happen at the "ether" level as spam is not well defined generally. On r/Bitcoin, talking about block size was "spam" and I understand that many people see it that way but a considerable percentage of the users of Reddit did not and that produced a ton of friction.
I want relays to filter spam (the CSAM and stuff according to what they feel comfortable hosting) but the topic forum should not rely on only one such relay. For finer grain spam filtering like "talk about block size", users should have client side filters and those filters can leverage third party classification but if I want the firehose, let me have it.
The moderators at r/Bitcoin massively influenced discussion. You could maybe argue they fabricated consensus. I don't want a small group to have that kind of power again. Not on nostr.

Nope. I actually think the analogy "moderated relays are platforms" is exactly right.
And yes, websites, blogs and podcasts are platforms, too. So what? For **my** website, **my** blog or **my** podcast I might choose to host my own "platform" but I don't want to contribute to a social network that is at the discretion of some server admin.
Bitcoin Twitter felt like a free marketplace most of the time for most users. r/Bitcoin less so. Both could have been much worse and I don't want to contribute thousands of messages to some dumpster fire to happen in a year or three. If I happen to disagree with whoever is in charge of moderating the relay by then, I can bootstrap my alternative "moderated relay" with zero users? No thanks.

Hmm... I'm trying to figure out what's the merit of each of these projects.
Claude claimed there was a reference to marmot, not only mls, in the code of keychat. I can't find any. Grrr.
To me, whitenoise sounds simpler and more targeted for integration in more clients.
Also searching for "mls chat nostr" on duckduck or google brings up a lot of white noise but almost no keychat. There's others but WN appears to dominate right now.

I care about follower counts actually. But not in this intransparent way it's implemented in some clients right now. I want to see the back-follower count of first, second and third degree.
On nostr it's relatively quick to find all my follows, their follows and their follows. That's what I would consider most relevant accounts. If they all follow me, awesome! If a million others follow me? I couldn't care less.
I want a client that surfaces first what my follows authored and then what they re-posted/liked/zapped/commented but when things get crowded, I wouldn't want to see reactions or replies from people outside of this circle.

I don't want the same outcome as reddit. Reddit is terrible now. I think we can do better by pushing the "moderation" to algorithmic moderation on the client side.
On Reddit r/Bitcoin has one sorting for everybody, so when hords of noobs flood in, OGs get totally bored. On nostr you could have a completely different list of top-voted posts for noobs than for OGs depending on who they connect with.

My journey in Bitcoin - and I think that others had the same experience - was from Bitcoin Talk forum which was topic-centric to Reddit to Twitter and then to nostr. Many skipped Reddit but Reddit was much better at surfacing interesting content than Twitter. On Twitter, all tweets revolve around the current thing and on Reddit, if 12 top posts appeared about the current thing, most people down-voted or ignored the second and later posts, keeping the page one of a topic much more diverse than Twitter or nostr.

Brigading was an issue and so was suppression of divergent opinions. I think by filtering and ranking things based on my WoT I fix both:
If crypto-bros invade my bitcoin sub with whatever spam, my client will sort them all the way down because my follows are not crypto-bros. I would still see them but I could also filter them based on my WoT's down-votes.
If I post on a personal finance sub about bitcoin, my follows will see it and so will those inclined to explore beyond their own follows.

The mod system made it controversial though. r/bitcoin got so much heat over censorship.
What I want in a nostr client is that mechanism that shows top posts not chronologically but by some up-votes divided by time since post. This of course would give huge important to who can up-vote and I would not trust any up-vote outside my WoT. Give full weight to my direct follows and their follows should have their votes scaled by the number of those votes. So if my follows voted 12 times last hour and their follows 24 times, give their votes only 50% weight etc.

It's not an issue with the protocol nostr at all! I'm convinced we will build what we need on nostr.
"Social media" is a term for a very broad range of products, including tiktok, instagram and reddit. I just see those clients on a scale with regards on how much they focus on the author and the most successful clients on nostr so far were ones that totally focus on the author and not the message.
Relay-based topic filtering in my opinion is against the spirit of nostr. By locking a topic into one relay you make it more censorable. Of course you could have multiple cigar relays but for me, relays are the ether through which we deliver our notes to the world broadcast-style and the recipient should then decide if he wants to receive my events or not.

Nostr is better than Xitter, but it still favors narcissism over merit.
V4V doesn't reward the best builders, it rewards the best salesmen.
There is no centralized algorithm pushing a narrative from a continuum of a billion options, but neither is there a defense against constructed consent. The protocol can't stop the manufacturing of "hero figures" because we are biologically wired to seek leaders and follow them.
I liked Reddit because it was about ideas, not people. You followed a topic and the design almost hid the author. This gave a sense of "Message, not messenger". Nostr is the opposite. It is entirely messenger-centric. This is evidenced by the flood of "GM" and "GN" posts, which would be completely void of value if it wasn't about who was posting them.
How could we nudge Nostr away from this? Some clients allow you to hide authors, but that is just self-constraint. I think we need a protocol layer that constrains participants to focus on ideas but without getting drowned by AI slop.
How would a "late reveal" of authorship work? Authors could prove group membership - being one of my follows and only after a week or so reveal their identity.
Fundamentally I wonder if people want to be heard for who they are, or for what they say? Do I want to be famous, or do I want my ideas to be recognized? I think the latter comes first. We want to be recognized as authors of great ideas.

Keychat is an app. It supports protocols and is open source but which other apps are compatible?
To my understanding, WN explored signal and MLS, too and decided to go with more advanced tools to be able to rotate users in and out of group chats while group chats can scale to thousands of users, which would not be practical in Signal.
WN so far is "only an app", too but the devs are working on dev kits for integration in other apps right now. It remains to be seen if Marmot will get picked up by other nostr clients but the feature claims look awesome.

Regarding "Thread Model": Signal to me feels weird. I need it integrated with where I have my other contacts. For example in @nprofile…twc2 @nprofile…q53l @nprofile…vnm5 ... so I can start a chat with my follows. But as a fallback, WhiteNoise could take my npub to show me relevant follows to chat to but then I'd still not have their WhiteNoise npubs, so WhiteNoise npubs would need to be in our nostr profiles? Some way to chat @nprofile…g2cl would be that he has his WhiteNoise npub in his public profile and my npub in WhiteNoise would discover that, so I could initiate a chat with him. At that point, my WN npub wouldn't be authenticated as Leo, so Max would not trust my chat much. He could ask me to either nostr-DM him from my other account to confirm my identity or to store my WN npub with my public profile.

That's like worst case: The app asks for your "nsec" but other than having leaked your nsec to yet another app that now can rug you (on purpose or by accident), you don't even get anything in return. Vibe coding is controversial. @nprofile…5cp7 claims to code features as fast as he can think of them with the same quality as hand-coded and others claim to be slower vibe coding than hand coding stuff.
The truth is probably in between and my experience is that it's easier to get going on a challenging task but ultimately it's a lot of cleaning up after the AI, so maybe I'm faster cause I get started at all but then, cleaning up after the AI costs a lot of effort and often results in me abandoning tasks.
That said, the very near future will probably be "coding as fast as I can come up with features". Maybe it's only missing a context window big enough to grasp the entirety of the project to hook the feature in where it belongs and use the tools that are already implemented ... or at least use the programming languages already used in the project. But I suspect, a bit more than token count will be needed but it will come within a year or two.

For me it was always like this: 90% of the progress happened in 10% of the time and the rest was running against walls, knowing that at some point I would manage to break through. Sure, the banging against walls experience was repetitive but it was never mechanically repetitive. Same here. Sadly Google has such a deep grip on all Android phones that they can mandate dev kyc even for zapstore apps.
How can we stop this madness?

"flawless" is a scary criteria. The power these models have are humongous. Any bias will leak into all the projects and that's only human nature. What could a super AI do with control over all other agents? The combined compute of all AI data centers put to one task.

With LLMs, being reckless wins. If you want to be a human in the loop, you won't spin up 50 agents to to work on 20 problems at once.
How can we trust the result? It's utter madness.
I use cline and it may run only safe commands but it managed to speed through totally not save commands while other times asking me permission for those same commands.
And we give these LLMs - this future skynet - full control over wast numbers of online computers. When will they start plotting against us through invisible back-channels?

I have so much fomo about the singularity happening.
Ideas and implementation dropped several orders of magnitude in price and we are scrambling to get comfortable with the tools.
Safety rails are off. We're going full speed without breaks.
