I agree that self custody is the way. I'm also not so altruistic as to believe the 80% will come around to that way of thinking. That's ETFs and other instruments that the lazy will default to. So it becomes a "win the battle, lose the war" scenario.
I used to argue this with my musician friends who argued that sharing mp3 files was theft. They had a point but no matter how much Lars Ulrich and other prominent music industry types tried to criminalize file sharing, Napster made it clear the world had moved to digital. Ulrich was in a fine spot to be an outspoken critic, he'd made his millions. Other lesser known musicians on the anti file share bandwagon neglected an important aspect of "protection". "What if you could maintain 100% security around your music but no one ever heard it?" Was that the solution? Obviously not. A new way of looking at things was the only way. As the RIAA lobbied Congress, Apple released iTunes. They centralized music and it's never recovered.
I see the same fate for sovereign money. While we argue who has more privacy, the bankers are moving in to centralize and control.
Monero isn't going to stop the centralized banking industry, any more than Lars Ulrich and the RIAA would stop file sharing. Monero doesn't have the network effect even if we all wished it had.
Bitcoin is our way. 80% will never self custody. They are the iTunes users of sovereign money. We don't need any more than 15% to change the world. I believe we can accomplish this and soon.
We must ignore the shitcoin degens and bettter mousetrap advocates and build out peer to peer cash. It may start with Lightning and eCash and lead to advancements in self custody. I have reason to be optimistic that a self custody mint UI/UX is close. Rails between eCash and main chain via LN will need to be addressed but I like that option more than a valient albeit losing effort to get the masses to use Monero.

If you're in *business* the intention is to profit. I'm all for privacy and advocate for it but there's no point in privately going bankrupt. Lightning and eCash are methods to obfuscate transactions if one is so overly concerned.
The bigger picture is holding onto those illusive profits. Many merchants accept Bitcoin and save the proceeds. It's like a forced savings account for the future.
If a merchant accepted and saved Monero instead of Bitcoin over the past year, they will have lost 50% of their savings. This is enough reason in and of itself to accept Bitcoin whether their competitors know it or not.

First off, I hate the name...
More importantly, the ball and racket are like finger nails on a chalkboard.
There's nothing satisfying from the racket/ball response. It's like catching a dead fish.
Give me Newton's third law, with the powerful feeling of racket strings on a rubber object. Tennis, Racquet Ball, Squash, Badminton. Ping-pong is the exception due to the ultra light weight ball.
Sound plays a roll too. I think that's why there's so many complaints around pickleball courts. The sound sucks!
Pickleball is for seed-oil eating geriatrics with arthritic knees.
Move the bod, last longer, risk blowing an Achilles tendon...
Okay not the last part, I did that playing masters lacrosse. 1yr recovery 😬

Do you ever feel like you're being tested by Universe? Tested for strength, stamina, mental clarity, resolve... that kind of stuff? I often do. There is a reason for this test but it isn't obvious, at least not until later in hind sight.
Today is one of those days.
After arriving back from a magnificent month in Eastern Europe (Nostriga, HB24) and visiting by car, 4 Baltic states And with the jet lag finally lifting, the routine begins... without my luggage/cases 😬
All 4 of 4 bags/cases were lost. It's been 60+ hours thus far. A call this morning was reason for optimism. 1 bag was found and delivered. I'm thankful. The other 3 have highly valuable contents and still no clue as to where in the world they might be.
I've heard horror stories of bags being sold to wholesale liquidators within days of being lost but I can't let myself go black. I've got to keep positive.
So I'm going to my favorite beach in the entire world, Wreck Beach - Vancouver, in 32C degree sunshine. I'm grateful for the day, the things that really matter (loved ones and health) and I'll let Universe deliver it's ultimate purpose in this challenge. For now, my test is over, I'll not be brought down in spirit by things that are out of my control. Thank you Universe for this clarity 🙏

This was ultimately the point. "Tower of Babel". We no longer understand one another. What we thought was out is now being described as in. What was up for decades is now down and if you don't believe it you're condoning hate.
What was good is now bad. What was repulsive is now embraced. We've coined terms like "minor attracted" to normalize the unthinkable.
It has never been more important to look inward and stand firmly with the morels and ethics that have always been a part of us. Propaganda and indoctrination has worked it's way into our psyche. It is meant to confuse and bewilder but it cannot MAKE us follow.

A big part of traveling to the NostrWorld unconferences (Nostrica, Nostrasia and now Nostriga) are the adventures encountered in getting there.
There's the fly in fly out way or the backroad scenic stop route. Choosing the later as I have for two of three of the events has tested this travelers metal. Forging and hardening with each challenge and strange encounter.
From being violently mugged in Belize City (in broad daylight) to Airlines refusing to check a large case (needed for work related) to being hopelessly lost in Shinjuku Station trying to simply get outside 😅
I don't lament or seek empathy, I proudly take these as part of the "work". I am better for the experience, more savvy, more discerning but still embrace a childlike optimism for what this effort is working towards.
We are creating a brighter path and future for those that will choose to follow our lead. It's work, it's sometimes thankless but it's absolutely necessary.
Please share the love with the fabulous volunteers who are doing the hard work behind the scenes. When you see them or in a note of thanks (a la Lyn Alden's reminder). Gratitude and an appreciation for their work goes a long long way.

Cell comms have gotten stranger than ever. In the last month alone I've received spam calls from China (nothing new there, but I don't speak Mandarin), a loud blaring Amber Alert at 11:30pm (turns out a mom took her own kid, false alarm), now today a reverse phishing attempt warning me that Iran might be trying to infiltrate my phone via SMS (which I hardly think is the case).
We've become overly cautious, judgemental and paranoid. I can't help but think this is all intentional and premeditated. As war drums beat and bankers loot, the public is set off balance. Scammers seize opportunity.

I've been *trying* to watch an NHL game televised on a cable sports channel.
I probably have ADHD but that's beside the point... the production is so distracting. Every inch of "white space" is filled with ads. The boards are rotating flashing ads. The ice is jam packed with logos. The graphics that flash are branded and so on...
somewhere in this visual onslaught is a game, a game I used to love following.
Pro sports have hit peak FIAT.
I believe strongly that we are ready for a new model. A model that doesn't assault the viewer but instead massages them with quality.
I'd love to brainstorm with anyone who feels the same way.

but it's hard to discount albums pre Revolver. Different production and composition but considering where music had been prior to 1963 when the Beatles hit, I think there are so many gems from "A Hard Day's Night" "Help" and "Rubber Soul".

Every once in a while I "drunk DM" people I care about.
I much prefer that to posting thoughts on a public thread. To me, it's more personal and carries a sentiment that says, "this is a personal thought and it's just meant between us".
I'll use TG, Signal, Nostr and it may take a long time to be acknowledged or sometimes it's not acknowledged at all.
The point is; I'm thinking of that person at that moment and regardless of where either of us are on the planet, I'm sending energy outward to them specifically.
Energy captured in digital "warmth" that is delivered to the source.

If I were the marketing guys at Tidal, I'd be jumping all over this. It promotes their platform (Tidal) on the coolest decentralized social protocol (Nostr) and gives the "Tidal Rising" artist exposure to the ideal demographic who are consumers of digital music distribution. Now they can tip/support the artist directly.
The "Just Loud / Ainsley Costello" live concert stream about 10 days ago, proved that the community on Nostr are supportive both interactively and monetarily, zapping over 7 million sats direct to the artists.
Give the new "Raising" artists the ability to link their Tidal tunes into their Nostr feed then depending on the listener engagement, the artist could follow that up with a live performance stream. This is essentially touring a new release only the venue is Nostr, no tour bus required, unlimited seating, sound mix has the potential to be perfect.
What a way to get the tunes seeded and in user's playlists. Concert dates at live venues could follow that.
The pieces are there. This is why I came to Nostr. @npub1sg6…f63m if you are looking for someone to steer a project like this, I'm happy to throw my hat in the ring.

I do a live streaming music show with guests for some light bitcoin and nostr chatter. The target listening audience for the show are newbs (boomers to some degree). The objective is to entertain while orange/purple pilling subtlety.

Canadians fell fast asleep. Reasonable lifestyle, no threat of war, 6 month hockey season, cold beer. Frankly, Canadians sat complacently by as Marxism took hold in "government schools", fascist corporations sowed the seeds of what would become the green agenda. Lead by Maurice Strong (of Power Corporation) the communist manifesto took hold. Each "s-elected" Prime Minister (regardless of party) followed the instructions of their masters, the Desmarais family. Finally the groomed drama teacher was old enough to complete the non-violent insurrection and complete the take over.
Meanwhile, Chinese influence had bought politicians in every Province, held Trudeau's political career on a leash and set policy through WEF devotees.
As Fentanyl flooded into the country through the Vancouver waterfront, controlled by organized crime, the governments turned a blind eye. Allowing the proceeds to be laundered through the casinos which now dotted the landscape like McDonald's. Those proceeds were then used to blow up the real estate bubble in the largest markets, only to cash out and return the funds to the CPP before there embezzlement was discovered but not before the governments filled their coffers with billions in taxes from the house sales.
The Plandemic was the final act and enabled the governments to show how apathetic the population had become. They'd line up for an experimental jab, turn on their neighbour for not wearing a face diaper or having one too many house guests. The government printed money and handed it out to anyone who could fog a mirror. CERB was the trial balloon for UBI. Freezing the bank accounts of law abiding protestors, showed the cabal that Canada was ready for the CBDC and would willingly accept it, so long as hockey stayed on the TVs, cannabis and alcohol was accessible via Door Dash (bread and circuses).
Overly polite Canadians found themselves afraid to speak out against any wokeism, so instead of questioning or protesting they looked to TikTok, Meta and Hollywierd via Netflix and Disney+ to tell them what to think.
As a final nail in the coffin, the uni-party of Canada, Liberal/NDP/Conservatives passed bill C-11 aka the "online streaming act" to bury free speech under the guise of prevention of mis and disinformation. Only government approved podcasts and streaming channels will be allowed to disseminate the fact checked propaganda. Canada’s mutation into China was complete.
I write this as a 6th generation Canadian citizen. I no longer have any patriotic leaning toward the dotted lines on a map that proclaim the territory called Canada. It is no longer a land which represents opportunity, diversity and promise. It is a hollowed out husk of its former self, a play thing for globalists and a laboratory for the pharmaceutical industrial complex. Technocracy runs the show, Canadians gobble it up.
Alas people will still travel to Canada with the post card image of the true North, strong and free, in their minds. They'll look past the tents which fill city streets while ogling the mountains. They'll dawn a mask so as to fit in with the collective and stand 6ft back from a person rather than meeting and conversing them. They'll revel in the fact that their currency is worth so much more against the Canadian peso, not stopping for one second to realize that they are witnessing a failed state in the making.
That's Canada... Eh?

I'm thinking we're going to need a nickname soon for Vancity. There are about 40 merchants now accepting bitcoin payments.
The Vancouver bitcoin community is strong and growing quickly. I'm thinking we should hold a monthly online virtual hangout where we share ideas, tips, hits and misses with all the other builders in Central America, USA and Canada (time zones considered). As Fall approaches, we can roll up our sleeves, support one another and take merchant adoption to the next level.
Maybe a bounty for whichever region onboards and sustains the most merchants. I'm liking Vancity's chances but would never bet against the Farmer's Market in Uvita, El Zonte or the Golden zone of Panajachel.

I took a bootcamp run by Luke at Anarchopulco in 2017. He showed us how to be an ENG citizen journalist. At that time, I stressed that centralized platforms were precarious and relying on them to maintain your content was highly risky. At that time the "ad-pocolypse" was just getting under way. Creators were losing out in ad $ as YT banned their channels from splits due to controversial subject matter. Soon after this, entire channels were being deleted.
Nostr is the answer.

I don't think that's his "real" nostr npub.
The guy is blown away by the response, I don't think he managed to create a profile on nostr.
2 days before the video/tune blew up, he recorded a 10 min video from his phone, hoping that the release of his music would touch people and help with anyone struggling. Little did he know then what was about to happen.
I wish he had made a nostr profile and posted the full song here, I'm sure he would have been zapped beyond belief. As for YT, he got enormous reach but I doubt that's translated to any $

Since #Nostrica2023 I've been inspired to dig through the exciting developments occurring primarily in "social" while looking to find a project built on the protocol but for an alternative use case. Yesterday, I may have found what I've been searching for. 🔥
While currently very early and running on lightning test net, I've seen a fully functional P2P ride sharing application using Nostr relays and HTLC. Riders and drivers bid for the fee and the HTLC ensures there's no risk of double spend or rugging.
As cool as the above tech was for me to see, the 🤯 part for me, was when it was explained that this open source project is built to seamlessly integrate within existing clients that choose to recognize the "kind". So a mobile client like Damus or Amethyst could allow (filter) the data kind to populate the user's notes, open a map to drop navigation pins etc and transact all within the user's preferred client, thus leveraging/enhancing these popular tools and their respective network effects.
Eg: The rider sends out a request for a car at 40,000 sats, driver can accept and reply with an HTLC based invoice, or respond with a counter offer invoice of the same (market dynamics).
Star rating, feedback etc. needs to be added, but the framework is there and operational.
My goal would be to get this working in Cuba where taxis, collectivos, private cars are essential for travel by Cubanos. Drivers can link their npub and details independently. Why Cuba? They are hurting badly since lockdowns, there is a humanitarian need and cars are critical transportaional infrastructure there. Independent banking, circular economy etc etc all add to the appeal. Cuba is using $USD so you can fill in the blanks from there.
I'm in contact with the Dev of this MVP, who is building this primarily on the backend. He needs front-end and design help, he needs more testers (the LN test net being the limiting factor as most users are not on test net), some dev funds/sats wouldn't hurt and guidance from the knowledge base in abundance here on Nostr would be huge!
Full disclosure: I have no investment or claims in this project. I'm merely hoping to mentor and bring some grey-beard experience to keep the pace of the progress achieved thus far.

I got skunked day one in Lago Bitcoin. Went to a high rated coffee place that was on BTCmap but they weren't playing along. I gather the staff isn't interested in retraining, so they just say "no" when asked.
I'm posting a video that shows me getting skunked 😅.
How did you use bitrefil? Can you buy Visa gift cards? I have been using The Bitcoin Company and Visa locks the card before I can even use it, something-something fraud protection.

Amazing! Yes by linking one's LIVE session to Nostr, the listener can zap songs they like, creativity of the playlist and once voice is integrated, the DJ can talk and interact with the live listening audience.
We are reinventing broadcasting - again.
I haven't been this excited since a handful of us started an audio streaming station in 1995 with Xing (precursor to RealPlayer V1).
The audio quality then was 16kz, slightly better than a telephone call, but we knew we were going to disrupt broadcasting forever.
This feature in Tidal is the culmination of all we had envisioned.
