Well…trying to remember. I read about them all and I think at the time I felt Umbrel had the nicest interface and best built out App Store with a good variety. I think the others may have been missing some stuff. I know others have opted for or moved to Start 9 for better configurability (not necessarily something I need), but I’ve also seen some complaints about it not having some apps. Best thing to do is read reviews about all of them and see what best fits your needs.

I have worn a Garmin watch 24/7 for the last 4 years.
The Garmin watch has allowed me to track everything related to my running but as my fiancee pointed out, I have a tiny laser hitting the same patch of skin 24/7, potentially for the rest of my life?
That made me think and I just switched to an Invicta automatic divers watch that I snatched for $47 and only wear the Garmin watch when I'm running or at the gym.
Am I losing metrics from Garmin? Yes. No more resting heart rate, sleep metrics, recovery, energy, HRV, ... but 4 years of monitoring have taught me which habits are healthy and which ones are not. I don't need Garmin to tell me my exact fitness level.
I'm little by little detoxing from data addiction, focusing on living life, and being ungovernable.
Plus, the Garmin watches have become prohibitive expensive. Mine cost me $500 (which was a lot) and the equivalent one now runs for $1,000 😳 Who is going to spend $1,000 on a watch that will last 3 - 4 years?

Peter Todd is right, OP_RETURN is a better spot for arbitrary data and the limit should be higher. I have mine at 160 on Knots (but at a high price if my mempool starts to get full). He's also wrong that there's no solution. The solution is #FixTheFilters for all other arbitrary data and let users choose which filters to use with enough information to understand.
Knots takes filters and user choice seriously. Many of the Core devs don't. Further, Core devs don't even entertain the other side of the debate, which makes it more difficult for users to have sufficient information to make an informed choice.

Honestly before they left the USA it was my favorite lightning wallet. Its so easy i received sats and my channel was open. It has tor it also has connect to your own electrum server you can adjust the fees to open channels. You can receive with regular btc address you can send out to regular btc address not just lightning. I think its an awesome wallet. Just no lightning email address to receive zaps on nostr but thats ok. The interface looks smooth and sleek its nice

Today something clicked during the running session.
The purpose of the first 40 minutes is to run the 2 miles Threshold with "not fresh" legs and after running two miles at 7:03 /mi I was tired and I could feel it when I started the second set of 2 miles Threshold.
Half way through that second set of 2 miles I realized that I had unconsciously reduced my stride length and increased my cadence to increase my running economy so I was running faster while using less energy since I was tired. I run this second set at 7:01 /mi.
Then I purposefully focused on this for the last remaining 1 Threshold mile and run it at 6:54 /mi increasing speed despite the increased load from previous miles.
You can see how the second and third line of high cadence are dominated by purple (higher).
The lesson (at least for me) is to run shorter strides with faster cadence to increase my running economy.

My search led me to a two woman team from a small town in upstate New York near the Catskill Mountains, who bring dogs back from Puerto Rico and find loving homes for them.

What's happening with Gossip?:
Implementing NIP-46 support in gossip has been far more difficult than I expected, at every step of the way, to the point that I've become dejected. I'm primarily motivated by progress and currently I am demotivated by my lack of completing anything useful for the end users, and have become too easily distracted to the point that I think it would be fair to send some bitcoin back to OpenSats as a refund.
For a long time there was a rust compiler bug around lifetime erasure ('_ vs '0) of data sent across async points. But I noticed that wasn't happening about a month ago.
Then all the signing/encrypting/decrypting functions needed to be made async, which bubbled up to more and more code needing to be async.
Then I went ahead and defined a Signer trait implemented by anything that could sign things... but that had too many functions (NIP-46 only does some) so it had to be broken up into 3 or 4 traits over time.
Then I built an Identity which could be any of (None, PublicKey, PrivateKey, RemoteSigner), and also a gossip client identity that wrapped this. And it had to be Serialize/Deserialize to save it.
Then I needed a network-level Client that a nip46 signing client could utilize to communicate with it's remote signer, without being tangled up in the "minions" I currently have.
Then I needed the nip46 signer itself that uses this Client and implements Signer, plugged into Identity and Serialize/Deserialize.
Then I needed to migrate how your identity loads and saves to this new serialized Identity (instead of just keys as it used to be).
Then there were lots of bugs around where detection of whether you could sign things or whether things were unlocked was being done wrong.
It starts to work... you can connect to the signer and you can learn your public key, and you can then get a feed. But it quickly gets jammed up and gossip freezes.
So now I think I should use tokio_console to debug it, which requires me to instrument lots of code.
And I'm just so tired of this.

In 2014 I created a hardware project that was in high demand and I only accepted bitcoin as payment.

BTW, I am not personally in favor of a block size decrease. The risk of a failed soft fork is not worth it.
I’m just saying that if people were serious about combatting spam, the path is to make block space so valuable that spam isn’t worth it. That means constraining block size to increase fees.

The definition of a soft fork is a further constraint. A narrowing of the consensus rules. The definition of a hard fork is relaxing a constraint. A broadening of the rules.
So expanding the main block size limit (Satoshi’s 1MB limit) is a hard fork because it relaxes the limit. Unupgraded nodes would NOT accept the new, larger blocks. It’s a hard fork because everyone must upgrade, or be left behind.
By contrast, reducing the block size is a soft fork. Unupgraded nodes will accept the new, smaller blocks just fine. It’s backwards compatible. People can opt to run old software and continue to use Bitcoin.

One of the most interesting things of this refactoring to get Amethyst into the outbox model is the realization that many parts of nostr don't provide guidance for relay hints.
For instance, when you follow a hashtag. Which relays are you following the hashtag on? Is it one relay for all hashtags or each hashtag you follow needs to have a relay list for itself?
Same for locations, labels, reports, products, DVMs, blogs, etc, etc, etc.
Following keys is the easy part.
This is why sometimes I find more joy working on Damus than my other solo Nostr projects.

Smaller blocks are still valid to legacy nodes enforcing the old (higher) limit. Upgraded nodes enforce the fork by rejecting blocks that are too large (which legacy nodes continue to accept).
This is really no different than any other soft-fork and much simpler actually.

Well, you are going to want something that allows you to both send and receive zaps, right?
Strike works for receiving zaps, since they give you a lightning address, but not so well for sending, because they don't have Nostr Wallet Connect. (Yet?)
I am not familiar with Exodus wallet, but it seems to be a multi-coin wallet, so I doubt it really has anything for Lightning and Nostr focused features.
My recommendation for dead simple Nostr integration from a custodial wallet is @npub1h2q…w8ch, hands down.
Setting up an account is free, and no KYC at https://coinos.io/
Once you do, you can go one of two ways.
1. Switch everything to Coinos. Put the lightning address they give you into your profile in place of the one you have from Alby so you can receive zaps, and copy/paste the Nostr Wallet Connect string from your Coinos settings into whichever Nostr client you are using, assuming it supports Nostr Wallet Connect, so you can send zaps.
2. Use Coinos WITH Alby by copying your Coinos Nostr Wallet Connect string into where your Alby account wants you to connect a wallet. Then you don't need to change your lightning address, as your Alby lightning address will send payments to your Coinos wallet. You'll still need to also paste the Nostr Wallet Connect string from Coinos into your Nostr client for sending zaps, though.

That's a lot of reading, and it only specifies that two are _recommended_ (will look it over more though, as seems interesting). ChatGPT informs me there are close to 2^512 of them (see attached gpt detail output if you're interested), but I think it's wrong in that it only considered counting for a single choice of p; there are several (many?) candidates for primes yielding 256-bit curves I would think. Anyway... TLDR, many many exist out there, and I guess many considerations go into choosing one.
You always have to wonder though, in a world with so many choices, why we end up with the ones we do... Recently read that it's an argument for choosing as many "nice" properties a curve could have (e.g. ED25519 has additional nice properties, allegedly), because requiring that would make it harder for a bad actor to pick a curve they have a backdoor to.

Woke up this morning feeling like collaborating on bigger nostr project with other devs. Unfortunately since we all use different libraries (NDK, nostra tools, and applesauce) it makes it difficult to jump into a project
In some ways it's one of the strengths of nostr, we know the protocol is simple enough to be implemented 4x over
But on the other hand it does limit our ability to easily contribute to other projects... I guess I'll just have to convert all the apps to using my applesauce libraries 😁
