You should just need the region set to Australia and LongFast. You might also need to change the hop limit to 5 or 6 to see all of the network. I don’t have a node with me right now but I can post some screenshots of my config later tonight when I get home.

First attempt at making my own beef bone broth. I had been wanting to try this for a while but wasn’t keen on leaving a pot on the gas stove for 24-48 hours. I started looking into the option of using a slow cooker but then discovered that it was also possible to make a successful broth in a pressure cooker. There seems to be some debate around whether some nutrients are lost using this method due to the higher temperatures or if it actually preserves nutrients due to the shorter cooking time, but either way it is probably better than a lot of store bought options.
This was the result of 4 hours cooking a mix of grass fed beef bones in the pressure cooker. It tastes pretty good and after refrigeration it came out very thick and gelatinous. A lot of ISPs don’t engineer their networks for this sort of sudden burst of traffic, especially from sources like Netflix which are generally fairly constant. I’ll have to check the graphs later but at the start of the live broadcast the company I work for was seeing almost double the usual traffic across the Netflix caches.

I could not care less about a fight but as a network engineer the Netflix issues do interest me. Netflix runs distributed edge servers within many ISPs and peering exchange so content is served fairly locally. ISPs will be seeing a huge spike in traffic from these edge servers so some of the issues people are experiencing are likely congestion at the ISP level rather than Netflix.

I bought a cheapish Motorola a little while back for testing Nostr apps on Android, and also for running the Meshtastic Android app as I think that is slightly nicer than the iOS version. I was actually kind of surprised how well some of the apps work on a cheap Android device.

Yeah Nostore works for web apps using Safari. I think if you want to use another native iOS client (e.g. the Primal or YakiHonne app) then you still need to use your private key directly.

I do pretty much the same using Nostore on iOS and only using my nsec directly in Damus. I’ve got a complete separate nsec that I use just for testing other clients etc so if it ends up somhow compromised I haven’t lost my main account.

I don’t have the same interest or excitement about the #bitcoin price as I did during the last bull run. The higher price just makes it more difficult to accumulate more. Really I would just like to be able to buy cheaper sats to open more/bigger channels when I’ve finished building my new node!

I know some of the people in our local Meshtastic group here had been successfully using it on Android. I was assuming it was working for them just with the older nRF Connect app but I’ll have to find out exactly what they are doing.

I have personally noticed a drop off in engagement although I don’t know that I can link it to the price of Bitcoin for me at least. The drop in engagement for me might be partly because I hadn’t been posting here as much as I did in the earlier days and I also hadn’t been engaging as much myself. It might also just be because people don’t find what I post interesting.
I’ve also noticed that without algorithms on Nostr it can be very sensitive to exactly when I post something as to whether people actually see it. Reposting can help but I try to avoid annoying people with too many reposts
I’m trying to focus more on Nostr again, posting more frequently on more topics. I’ve also been cleaning up my following list and have been trying to find new, active and interesting people to follow which has helped give more visibility of content that I want to see.

I didn’t get far with this as I couldn’t get the StartOS installer to work on the new NUC. I’m not too concerned about having the nice interface or app marketplace so instead I’m installing the new node manually on Linux. So far Bitcoin Core is installed and has finished syncing. You can set an expiration time for an invoice (this is with Zeus but I’m sure some other wallets have the same functionality). I’m not sure what the maximum is but it has an option for weeks. I also hated mushrooms until I came across a stall at the local farmer’s market and tried some of the different varieties of oyster mushrooms, lion’s mane, and more recently shiitake that they sell. That box of shiitake was Australian $12. Not as cheap as some other varieties at supermarkets but not too expensive either.

Data from the IODA project shows there was a complete drop (no prefixes seen via BGP) from AS43852 but looks like it has since been restored. It means that it is as little as they can get away with paying at current market rates for someone to do the role. But it is probably more than they are paying some employees who have been with the company for many years doing the same role so they don’t want to make the salary known and have to pay them more too.

I personally don’t “like” a lot of completely AI generated images although I do think they can be useful sometimes. Really though every digital photo is created by algorithms in a computer in some way. You don’t see the raw sensor data from a camera, there are algorithms that are adjusting the image. If you don’t override these yourself then you are still seeing a manipulated image in the way the manufacturer has decided it should look. And if you capture the raw file then you need to manipulate it yourself on a computer which gives you more control and in that case more manipulation could be “better” “art” (depending on your point of view!).

This is sad to see as I studied there and back then it was a pretty vibrant campus. I think the Uni system in Australia has been in decline for a while though and basically is just focused on churning out mediocre degrees for international students.. I think now for a lot of careers people are better off looking at other paths than taking on the huge HECS debt to study at Uni here.

The biggest use case I can see for it is for communications in a disaster situation where power is out and phones/Internet are down. Meshtastic devices can keep running on battery power for long periods of time or powered from small solar panels so would be easy to keep operating.
It is low speed though so really limited to text only communications.
There are projects to send Bitcoin transactions over Meshtastic although they do need to connect to a Bitcoin node somewhere. Potentially useful for sending transactions from a location where an Internet connection is not available.

Project for the weekend. New #meshtastic node using the Heltec T114. I’m interested to try this one as it uses the Nordic nRF52840 which has a lower power consumption than the ESP32 based boards so should have better battery life. It also has a colour display. For a firewall I would probably just run it directly on the device rather than putting it in a VM on top of Proxmox. If you want to run other things in VMs then run Proxmox on a NUC (or one of the HP/Lenovo etc mini PC devices that are fairly cheap secondhand) behind the firewall.
