The people who choose to live in governments will not aggress against our property the vast majority of the time, and as long as they don't, there's no force maintaining the system whatsoever. It's just peaceful trade and building things. The surrounding governments, if they be reasonably peaceful, will find it more beneficial to trade with us than to force us to live like them.

These defense firms will operate on a market for insurance that responds to real time signals, both price signals and other threat detection systems, to keep everyone safe from attacks.

And I must confess: in my eyes, it's a failure.
For me, Nostr is not a secondary network, nor a protocol to be "tested". It's the network I've staked everything on. And maybe it's precisely because I believed in it so strongly... that I expected too much.
This feeling has been with me for 2 or 3 weeks. I've kept it to myself. But when you add up the time invested and the payoff... the result is hard to ignore.
Am I selling the present moment for an uncertain future? I've had this feeling for a few days now, and it's making me sincerely anxious. I tell myself that I've spent so much time dreaming of a future where I'll be living from Nostr, that I've forgotten to live in the present.
Despite the 164 days I've given up and 163 nights I've sacrificed, this dream is still far away, very far away indeed. As they say, it's when you start learning about a subject that you realize you're swimming in an ocean of ignorance.
That's a bit like what I experienced with Nostr, at the beginning I believed in it like hell, I threw myself into it with determination and stars in my eyes, the first few months went by super fast, I received 100 sats and exploded with joy, I thought that if I increased my work exponentially it would be the same for my income, but that's not the right calculation. Between theory and practice there's an unknown variable that can't be calculated.
Far be it from me to pity the readers, never. It's my failure, not yours. On the contrary, most of you have pushed me to push my limits, and that's quite a feat. I achieved the biggest speed run and the first speed run in the history of Nostr. Without you, I'd never have succeeded.
Now if I change my perspective and tell myself that the goal is not my personal success but the improvement of the Nostr protocol. So it's a success, I've documented my journey from the start and shared all my statistics with you. If anyone wants to embark on the adventure of making a living from Nostr, they can draw inspiration from my account and retrieve all the information they need. I encourage them to do so.
I think the things that have contributed to the success of my account are the concern for a job well done, both in form and content. Each publication is reworked, meticulously checked and, for those with an eye for detail, I've even established an artistic direction so that every time you come across a flash note you'll recognize it among 1000.
To sum up, from a personal point of view it's a failure, but from a collective point of view it's a success. The adventure isn't over yet, I've promised to write 10,000 notes, and words are very important to me. Words are worth a man or a man is worth nothing.
Maybe I'll go beyond that, maybe at 10,000 I'll take a break, maybe I'll stop and think about how to improve my life now, I don't know.
Some will be delighted, others will be disgusted. Either way, I wish only the best for both parties. As you know, I have nothing but love to offer.

I want to share a few things that currently fascinate me about **Zero Knowledge Proofs (ZKP)**. The first is **Private Set Intersection (PSI)**, which is a great tool for finding overlaps in data without revealing details. For example, a job applicant has certain skills (with a limit on their number), and an employer has specific requirements (also with a limit). Using PSI, you can determine if there’s a match between them. Additionally, with **Range Proofs**, it’s possible to prove whether the absolute minimum and maximum requirements align between the applicant and the employer. If there’s no match, there’s no point in inviting the applicant for an interview. This principle could be applied to other areas, such as finding common interests at conferences or on the **Nostr** platform. Combined with some identity verification heuristic and a **Humanity Score**, it could help identify interesting people to follow. I find these algorithms very intriguing.
Another thing that excites me is the combination of **TLS Notary** and **email verification**. Let me explain with an example of verifying a Twitter account linked to a Nostr account. One option is to use TLS Notary, where I generate proof that the x.com server returned a specific response to a request (e.g., the content of a status on a particular page). This proof is signed by the x.com TLS certificate. It’s a similar approach to what **Keybase** used—a platform I really liked, though it lost relevance after being acquired by Zoom. With Keybase, each client verified the proof independently, which may no longer be possible since Twitter requires login. However, a TLS proof allows verification of the status’s existence without needing to log into Twitter—the verifier simply checks the ZKP proof.
A similar principle works with email verification. Nowadays, emails are signed with a DKIM key corresponding to the sender’s domain. If I receive an email from Twitter with text like “Hello, Juraj, you have a message” or “Juraj, we detected a login attempt,” I can extract my username from it and prove that the email was indeed received and signed by the x.com key. This proof is tamper-proof—any changes would invalidate it. Additionally, it can be verified that the email came from a specific address to a specific address. I see this as a great alternative to Keybase, but built on Nostr. In Nostr, the problem is that anyone can easily create an account and have dozens of clones, so the only reference point is the follower count. However, if we could verify connections to Twitter, GitHub, or email, it would carry more weight. We could assign a score based on verified data and mutual following of verified (non-bot) accounts.
Such verifiable cryptographic mechanisms can be applied to various areas on the web. For instance, I can prove that I received a payment on **Revolut** or that I sent one. Accounts on various platforms can be verified, and even a bank balance in online banking can be confirmed. Another option, though not everyone likes it, is identity verification using a **national ID with a digital signature**. I can prove that I’m a physical person, for example, from Slovakia, over 18 years old, and that I haven’t verified any other Nostr account with this ID (using a so-called nullifier). The beauty of this is that I choose which data to verify—I don’t have to disclose my age, nationality, or other identifying details. I can simply sign the account with a valid but anonymous certificate.
Similarly, a passport can be used for verification. In this case, I’m not verifying a signature, nor can I sign anything with the passport, as it only contains the public key of the certification authority and the data from the passport’s main page (number, name, date of birth, etc.). This is also a way to verify identity. Modern passports, often called biometric, actually contain only JPEG photos, and even those aren’t always fully accessible. However, the existence of a passport (e.g., a Slovak one) can be verified without revealing specific details. Here, too, ZKP nullifiers are needed to prevent one passport from being used to verify thousands of bot accounts, which would defeat the purpose.
These are some aspects of Zero Knowledge Proofs that currently captivate me.

Well I might be completely wrong about it. What apparently is going on is that usually, under certain circumstances, your property can be considered abandoned, and at such a time, the state would sell it and hold onto the dollars for you to claim of you came back. The new law changes it so that the state keeps the assets as-is with their custodian, waiting for you to claim it. This paves the way for a 6102 attack with a bit of lawfare or a coupe, but is actually a marginal improvement to current laws. I haven't had time to learn more about it yet.

A lot of really cool ones have a rather small collector premium. Liberty 5 and 10 dollar coins from the 1800s are pretty badass and the going market premium is barely anything. I think Bitcoin will be the world currency but may not be the universal currency. You need forks of bitcoin or some other commodity to go interplanetary or at the very least to go interstellar. 99% of users on X don’t care about building an audience, they just want to be the audience. That means we should be able to significantly reduce switching costs for most users on NOSTR by mirroring the most popular accounts on X. The wallets of mirroring accounts could then hold sats until those people mirrored decide to claim them if they want to join nostr. Funds could be distributed to mirrored account owner over a year to encourage them to stay on. Yeah. It's catchy slogans to drive home the message of distrust clearly. It's important that we have extremely high standards for trust and are aware of the possibilities. The idea that an IOU is completely worthless just because there's a 0.1% chance it will become irredeemable, is a little overkill, but it drives home the message as quickly and effectively as possible that you don't know, that there is that real chance. It's like an oversimplified guideline.
The way it all works in reality is we tailor our risk tolerance to ourselves, as well as craft a risk model, an understanding of how this all works, in our heads. We use the tech but allocate this percent or that percent to onchain, liquid, lightning, cashu, etc... we engage our friends with certain subsets of that and help them allocate for what makes sense for their use cases and risks. The simple message is just a good reminder for plebs who've been in a long time, and a good initiation for new plebs who are ready to become paranoid.
It's good to see the bitcoin price starting to go up again after all the bitcoiners stopped selling bitcoin to gamble at Vegas.

I noticed that ppl here often have so deep distrust in banking that they don't understand why (free) banking took off in the first place and what is it's purpose.
Technically IOUs are valid, the issue is that the government permits lawless behavior and you cannot say with any decent degree of confidence that you won't get rugged. In a free society, cashu, even though it is custodial in a sense, would work splendidly in a free banking paradigm.

I have an ongoing POC running locally. I haven't found a better way than whitelisting/blacklisting NWC-specific nostr+walletconnect:// URIs or random npubs encoded in them. Either that, or leaving the relay completely open, which is... not great.
The second issue, for basically everyone except wallet/NWC payment service developers, is that there's a lot of back-and-forth between the wallet and the relay. The wallet also needs to be configurable enough to forward events to your specific relay (many aren't). Most won't even allow external tools to query all NWC-specific events, so we can't even use the same subscribe/import trick we're using for kind:1 events. This is why I haven't committed my POC upstream yet. I haven’t found much use for end users, unless the user has full control over their NWC stack. And if they do, they can use your other relay.
Hopefully we can convince more custodial wallet devs to allow users to use their own payment relays in the future. This would make private payment relays much more useful to end users.

Woke up thinking about the recent episode of @nprofile…jn9u and can't get past the idea @nprofile…f670 mentioned about why car insurance is becoming so expensive. We're heading towards a world were driving your own car will be a privilege only for those who are rich enough to afford it. The rest will have driverless cars. It's crazy to think how much this affects your privacy and how much the climate change agenda will help pursue the idea.
