Gm nostriches, quite the week since last Friday’s house sale, again a touch nostalgic, looking back over the years I kept the house. “I don’t really need the money”, “I don’t know what I’d do with the money” and “I am at least getting some return from rent”
My indecision cost me close to 4x more bitcoin if I’d sold in 2022-2023, but my conviction probably wasn’t there, to have smash bought during a year when things were still pretty rough and uncertain, but looking back, zero bitterness, zero regrets, I got an annoying tenant who made the decision that bit easier, my conviction grew and after a week, I have “saved” most of the cash I got from the sale (a little left for family fun and maybe a new bike, although have an idea).
Never going to say anyone should do anything, but now, I can tell people what I did, how it has made me feel, and in the course of 6 days, I’ve already recouped both my estate agent fees AND lawyer fees due to the loss of purchasing power of the British pound when compared to my unit of account. 🫡🙌

Gm nostriches, no one would have known if I had just poured myself a coffee this morning, but went out for the run. To the top of the hill in the background, 4.5 miles there, upwards of a 1000ft climb. Today, I’ve complete on the sale of the first house I bought, in August of 2006, near peak housing market, 18 months/2 years before the GFC. At the time I was doing the “graduate job” with a “good pension”, barely able to make mortgage payments, single, just about making ends meet, living the treadmill life.
“Better get on the housing ladder”, “better than paying rent to someone else”, “good to have a home of your own”, is what everyone said. But what have i learnt? That mortgage put me in chains that could have locked me into a careers that wasn’t interesting or went anywhere, but I needed to stay there to pay the mortgage.
Looking back, I moved on and ended up having someone else paying the mortgage since, but with expenses this wasn’t some sort of golden ticket as every rent payment was taxed, every annoying tenant requested little job to be fixed cost money, property maintenance costs are real!!! The compound annual increase of the house over the years, without accounting for mortgage interest or expenses, has been something like 1.7%, nowhere near keeping up with official ( fake)inflation figures.
Real estate is a consumable, it is not a store of value, if you can, buy where you want to live or rent where you want to live, spending as little as possible and choose a better store of value.
Be safe out there freaks, educate the ones you love, don’t let them believe what may have worked in the past. People may not want to listen and say “you can’t live in your Bitcoin”, but it is likely a much better store of value, won’t lock you into a specific location and won’t need a new boiler (or some to help a tenant test the smoke alarm). It might also free you and your family from the chains and stress of a 25 (or 40 in my case) year mortgage, and the impact that could have on you and them.
It was not all negative, living by myself (well, me and my dog), having the responsibility to make it through, the kick up the ass that something had to change, and having “my own place” were definitely positive but also critical to getting where I am today. My advice, don’t be distracted by those who “made money” from changes in monetary policy. It is your house, your life, not part of your investment portfolio.
Saving in #bitcoin not bricks. Love you guys. Enjoying my final moments in the house, although now officially trespassing!!!!

Not listening to as much mountain biking podcasts as I used to, but really enjoyed this one, with a hidden message for them, and #bitcoin.
They wanted the big money to come into the sport to help increase exposure, increase the accessibility of the sport they/we love (just like we did), but if the money comes in, who will ultimately pay the bills? They got the money injection, but “the money” started calling the shots, change the race format and increases prices (Wall Street suggestions).
We may be cheering money coming in, but unlike biking on TV, we have the control, we have the power, the suits can increase prices if they like, but if we already have a stack, we benefit. If they decide they want to change the format of the product, any element of the protocol, we can just say no, unlike all the fiat run mountain biking teams and riders who have to just say “yes”. We can run our nodes, we can determine the nature of the product we love and we own unlike the biking “customers”, so run a node freaks, broadcast your transactions from it, maintain control.
Don’t be Warner brothers/discovery with your ETF, be the freecaster or the Red Bull renegade with self custody, being happy that this isn’t easy (take the hard path, @nprofile…7339 🫡🙌), a🧇this isn’t straight forward, but ensure you have freedom away from the fiat system to do what we love.

Watching a doomer economics show this morning, amazing stat for the UK, the median wages is only 40% higher than the new national minimum wage. Also, hospitality costs have sky rocketed and they’re losing jobs quickly, fortunately new government jobs and making up the difference.
They (labour but also the previous Tory government) are pushing us towards a single rate of pay. No matter how hard you work, you’ll likely earn the same or a token amount above the minimum, but then get the differences taxed, this is Communism.

Hey @nprofile…r84z , loving @nprofile…v7f4 in the UK, but have been asked a whole range of extremely intrusive questions all in the name of EU anti money laundering,, counter terrorism regulation.
Wondering if you could shed any light on my obligations to comply, I don’t want to stop using the platform, but really don’t want a third party to have this much information about me. I’m not a terrorist or a money launderer, I’m innocent until proven guilty, I shouldn’t have to prove my innocence.

May have said these laws are “encroaching on my human rights of privacy to transact” and “money laundering generally involves cash” in my response

Says everything really, why the hell is one of the world’s richest universities receiving federal funding in the first place. And when did white old ladies become the cheerleaders for the continuation of antisemitism?!?!? “We will never change to protect our students” yes there are nuances this note misses. As an employee of the university system I just support withdrawing all central government funding and also letting students pay what they think their tuition is worth.
