Ed is a bit verbose for me but a friend of mine sent me his blog and I [shared his latest article today](https://stacker.news/items/707609). He seems to get what is going on in the tech world and where AI is heading in a business sense. As someone that has been in the tech world for the last 20 years there are not enough people looking at the hype in the way Ed does.
I know I know. Bob, you're just an old. You're just dumb. Sure. Those things may be true but I've seen hype before and I've seen crashes before. The AI hype is not all smoke but it sure isn't what we are being told.
From Ed:
Generative AI is being sold on multiple lies:
* That it's artificial intelligence.
* That it's "going to get better."
* That it will become artificial intelligence.
* That it is inevitable.
> My concern is that I believe we’re in the midst of a subprime AI crisis, where thousands of companies have integrated generative AI at prices that are far from stable, and even further from profitable.
Here is the key point:
> Almost every "AI-powered" startup that uses LLM features is based on some combination of GPT or Claude. These models are built by two companies that are deeply unprofitable (Anthropic is on course to lose $2.7 billion this year), and that have pricing designed to get more customers rather than make any kind of profit. This affects more than JUST these companies that are using "AI" in their products.

I'm still thinking about this article but I can see his points.
Here we have an example of tech not providing value to the customer but rather trying to suck people into the existing systems. Its why so many of us despise these companies.

I imagine I'm not alone in this but what I don't like about the whole EV craze is the government push to ban IC vehicles. That coupled with the lack of consideration for tradeoffs. EVs aren't good and ICs aren't bad. It's more complex. There is a place for both. Along with hybrids. That seems reasonable to me but it's seems this take is not common.
There are always tradeoffs and only fools don't see this.

Saw this last week. Its interesting and sad.
Interesting because some of the employees say that there are many people that no longer go into the office. I've heard this from others that used to work in large buildings. Many floors are only used sparingly. The impacts of the shift to work from home are still being worked out. I expect a major correction in the commercial real estate market. It may take years for this to be worked out.
It incredibly sad that this woman was dead for days and apparently no one she worked with, family, or friends noticed. It doesn't shock me but it is a reminder of the lonely lives many live.

It bugs me how so many bitcoiners seem to really trust encryption when it comes to their bitcoin but do not seem to realize this also applies to files.
Bitcoiner's will trust the bitcoin to be on every node but encrypting a file and putting it in on AWS is foolish. I dunno. It bugs me. Makes me wonder if they actually understand bitcoin or encryption.

I know many have a hard time with looking at history to understand how we got to where we are today. Especially if it doesn't help their arguments. Looking at the world as a set of good guys vs. bad guys is naive.
This article outlines how NATO made and broke promises over the last 30 years. Do not mistake this for excusing reactions to these broken promises. There is not excuse. It is simply part of the story that isn't really expressed. In time it will be. Just as we all know how the US made and broke promises to the Native Americans over and over again. Just as we know that Hitler made and broke promises over and over again.
The world saw that Hitler could not be trusted. Sitting Bull saw that the US government could not be trusted and I hope one day we will all see that governments in general cannot be trusted. All promises made are only as good as the political whims of the person in power.
History isn't only about dates and events. Its about understanding multiple perspectives of what happened to get a better picture. If you first seek to understand instead of pick sides the picture becomes more clear.

In the circles I frequent many people seem very worked up about the "Christian Nationalist" movement. I have some thoughts on this but one is that I've never met anyone that uses that term to describe their political/religious position. I wonder if I'm alone in this.

Sure, I'm saying in many cases the math doesn't make sense. It has been this way for most of my adult life. I have known couples where when you subtract the cost of child care from the lower of the two incomes the difference was minimal. But the message is both parents have to work. I'm just saying many people never do the math. If they did they would not say that. Not making a moral judgement here, other than laziness and dishonesty with ones self.

You may not know this but you can acquire a phone number without KYC. And its actually been very good at stopping spam. Better than any other messaging system I've used. It is all about trade offs.

First part is right. Last but is wrong. Fullycentrally planned economies do not work. Study the USSR. China realized this and liberalized. It could be much worse under full communism.
The mistake most make when thinking about communism is focusing on the politics. The worst part is the central planning.
Central banking is easier to hide because of complexity.

There are no solutions, only tradeoffs.
Hire a good accountant or if you can afford it a tax attorney. Make full use of the tax laws (loop holes). Make more money so that these things have a smaller affect. This is what the wealthy elites do. This is what business owners do. These things will have more impact on you than voting. But voting.
We don't yell at the sun when we get sun burn, we cover up or go inside. We all get caught up in what isn't in our control from time to time. Focus on what you can change.

No way that truck on the right is only worth $1k but the point remains. Back in in 90s I bought my first truck for $600 and it was rough. Didn't run and needed a lot of work. My used truck I bought in 2017 for cash is still holding the same value. Status trucks are for weak men.
