IDK if you've been on Backpacker Radio with Zack and Chaunce as my podcasts crowded them out awhile back, but I do think they and the backpacking world need someone to orange pill them, so they can spend less time on the hamster wheel and more time on the trail.

I'm not surprised things like roombas aren't all that widely used. Vaccuuming isn't particularly dangerous work, and roombas aren't all that cheap. Things like, servicing nuclear meltdown sites and other hazardous locations, however, is a great use of robots that does seem to be fairly widely used. Also, the use of drones. Though, I suppose it depends whether you consider remote controlled machines in the same space as autonomous machines, because drones and things like Vicarious Surgical's "robot" might not be fair to compare to fully autonomous systems that act purely algorithmically.
Maybe at some point we'll look to robots to do things that aren't so difficult for humans to do, in the same way we use dishwashers now, but I think most things we recognize as robots just don't have the best cost:benefit ratio, especially when we consider the inertia of having a routine that already has us doing things manually.

Among those I think the Quran delves most into what we usually think of as economics (broader scope of 'all human action' notwithstanding). I don't love some of the rigidity around interpretation there is with it or any other Abrahamic tradition even if I do understand some historical forces that encouraged that approach.
The Pali Canon went a long way in perhaps getting me to that view. Stories of the infinite divisions of things in different ways can, on a level, be simultaneously true, if those divisions have more to do with perspective of the observer, looking at an underlying reality that is unified (or, as Crowley and perhaps other Kabbalists might say, is 0). At the end of the day we live in our own experiences and understanding, by which we can compare and evaluate these stories. Of the 'world outside' we can't ever really know anything.
And that's fine. Knowledge is fiat, Wisdom is hard.

Also COULD depend which relays they use. Given that most of us use a cluster of the same ones if nothing else you are at least likely to see someone responding to them I suppose. But if they do just spin up their own relays and/or only post to some fringe ones you may end up missing out.
Not to tell you how to pick your follows, especially as someone already connected. Only if you look at the Abrahamic religions.
There's some good reason for it, though it's perhaps important to remember that it is born out of an eschewing of material possessions in the first place. It'd also be sinful to lend out money in such a way that puts your dependents without their needs being met. Presumably, the prohibition on interest is also a way to significantly decrease the extension of credit in the first place, as it becomes completely disincentivized. Financing becomes equity based, rather than based around the collection of interest. The financier takes on the same risks the one they're financing faces in business, rather than standing on the sidelines demanding interest, whether or not the endeavor being financed succeeds.
For a good look at how this functions among communities that actually adhere to it seriously, which isn't even most Muslims especially in the modern fiat world, it's worth checking out how Sharia banking works.
@nprofile…lh5m has discussed the goals of the ban on interest in terms of being a method to encourage a lower time preference. Pegging the time value of money at zero can be seen as a refusal to require that more money than was initially started with be brought into the system. If we zoom out from the microeconomic realities of interest bearing loans, it does make sense that one can't have the widespread charging of interest without necessarily creating a situation in which there will be defaults, either outright, or in the form of inflation. Furthermore, if you're lending money understanding the risk of this default risk, it may brush up against prohibitions on gambling, also found in said religions.
It's hard to argue that money doesn't have a time value though. If I have the money and can spend it today, I can buy seed, to plant crops, which I can then sell, and have more than I started with. Whereas if I lend that money out for a year, I necessarily give up that potential profit stream. However, if nobody is expanding broad money with credit, the money in a year should buy more than it does today, thanks to deflation and the collective increase in real goods and services through productive economic endeavors. Thus, on a sound money standard, that time value is something that can be recognized without the charging of interest. And you might even see the extension of credit without interest as doing your part to drive down the costs of goods and services, and thus, drive up the value of money, so in a way, your time value is being adequately compensated.
With widespread use of interest and fiat money, it's sort of hard to get there. I won't proscribe a course of action as it's far from my place to do so, but this is how I see the matter of interest, and why prohibitions on it do exist in various traditions. One needn't simply go with the "because the book says so" rationale.

Building the software is an easy fix -- move the git repos to Tor. Sort of surprised this isn't more common yet especially afyer Samourai. Though you could also access clearnet repos from behind a Tor exit. Or just post to Sourceforge from behind a Russian proxy if your name rhymes with Batoshi Lakamoto.
Moving fiat around ourside their reach though is much harder, at least without chasing off the normies. Might not be long before you're buying Bitcoin for gift cards (which you can already do on Bisq).

Sounds like they're basically doing KYC on gift cards, undermining your reason for using them.
We can buy them in stores for cash but that may vary by geography.
Not surprised though. Gift cards have always been a bigger avenue for money laundering than Bitcoin itself, and there have been lawsuits trying to make companies more responsible for their misuse.
I'd be wary of trading KYC'ed gift cards for sats; you may get a knock on the door if it's at all wrapped up in say, ransomware scams for a common possibility.

Cashu with a reliable mint has the potential to improve reliability at the expense of being custodial, but considering most people are using custodial lightning wallets, it's probably a trade off worth considering if you're looking for an alternative to Lightning. Heck you could run the mint yourself for maximum reliability, though at that point you'd likely still have lightning to contend with directly for payouts.

On the lightning network, all transactions occur within channels, and all transactions within a channel must be confirmed by both parties on that channel. Ultimately both sides are motivated by self interest to maintain their transactions accurately, and not allow the other party to post anything inaccurate, as it would result in a loss of money for them.

@nprofile…gmr8 I was just debating over on twitter with people talking about the idea that Bitcoin is a ponzi scheme, and will go to zero (yes it was comments on one of Peter Schiff's posts), and having read Broken Money, I can only conclude that EVENTUALLY there may be something to the theory (much like how there is no "intrinsic" value to beads, wampum, or tobacco, even though for a time they were perfectly fine money for the situations in which they were used). And it dawned on me -- the blockchain, as it is now anyway, relies upon terrestrial Internet. Space travel, particularly of the interstellar variety, would turn Bitcoin into "broken money," at least for the purposes of that space-faring society.
Of course, you're already in the middle of a book, and perhaps I should be exploring this for myself, but it does strike me that an allegory about this future society wherein Bitcoin meets its obsolesence (or at least finds limitations, much like how gold currently has some, but no longer all, of the aspects of money that it once did), could be an interesting way to illustrate the transition between monetary standards that would allow us to see some of our own dynamics, from a bit more of a distance than we normally get to experience.
Throwing it out there in case you're totally addicted to this book writing business these days. I look forward to seeing what you've got on what you've been working on.

It's very important that the government have no say about the supply or value of the currency to begin with, so as not to distort the functionality of the real economy, whereby all value is produced.
The best defense against excess wealth being extracted from the working class by the capitalist class is pitchforks and torches (and a metric fuckton of AR-15's doesn't hurt too), and the lack of a state subsidized by taxes to stand in defense of said capitalists.
When you have to actually pay to defend against an angry mob, you have motivation to keep them from getting too angry in the first place.

The functionality of discovery outside of those you're following varies heavily between clients. Personally I'm pretty happy with Coracle's approach. Between hashtags, and looking at extended networks, I can slice things up to my liking.
That said I'm not opposed to client level algorithms for curating a feed if it's what people want to opt into. At the end of the day Nostr being a protocol will almost certainly ensure that these remain optional, rather than enforced. Personally I won't be opting in, but I get that not everyone is interested in tinkering with their filters to find what they want.

Heck I'm mad that I would prefer him winning at this point, but all it takes is a glance at the realistic alternative.
Still, voted for Jo (not Joe) in 2020, and will be voting for Chase Oliver in 2024. The two party paradigm has outlived its welcome, and the idea that we literally have two people who spent most of their lives as Democrats to choose from at this point is pretty gross.
Don't worry, I'm not in a swing state anyway, so it's a moot point.

I have somewhat marveled at the apparent scarcity of sex workers on Nostr so far. Wasn't sure if that's a product of something at the relay level or what. I do assume there will be a bit of segmentation that may arise when they do finally show up as relay operators may not be terribly comfortable hosting adult content that they have no verification of the legality of in much the same way people are particularly cautious running Tor exit nodes (but perhaps more worrisome due to the hosting...and can you blame them?). But I do have to assume that some with some brass cojones (or operating solely over Tor or other anonymization channels) will spring up, and likely operate without necessarily being linked into the main mesh of relays.
Though I suppose there's another alternative, which of course is linking to the hosted content elsewhere and using CW's so as to not bother the relay operators because they're not, at the end of the day, actually hosting anything. Truth be told I don't understand enough about how actual media files work with the Nostr protocol to begin with, because it does seem like media, at least above a certain size, gets treated a bit differently than text notes.

It depends what the recent past has been like for me. If I'm burnt out, I'd really just love to stare down an indefinitely long period where I can just do whatever comes to mind at the moment, with nothing hanging over my head I need to worry about.
Give me a bit of that, however, and the boredom or at least lack of direction can get to be nagging. Usually that's when I'll either welcome an outside project, or start crafting a regimen for myself to get SOMETHING done that's bigger than day to day amusement.
Truly not having anything going on can be pretty crushing at the end of the day. Even when I'm looking to be able to just go on long walks without worrying about anything else, the walks ARE the project, be it for fitness or just burning off anxious energy. Even when it's video games, there's the built in goals. And even when it's watching TV or movies, it's working through seasons, or some other list I've composed for myself. Once these structures of goals fall away, it seems only natural to reach out for something on your plate. Man does not live by bread alone...

If they take BTC out of circulation to use solely as bank collateral to back dollars, I'm not sure those of us with self custodied coins need to care, any more than we particularly care about coins locked up in wallets that ended up orphaned because they weren't properly backed up. Worst case scenario, their increased demand and the diminished supply may mean BTC's price gets high enough we have to seriously consider whether the satoshi really is the smallest unit of Bitcoin. The most insane valuation projection I've seen was $1 Billion USD BTC before 2040; at that price we'd really probably want to consider sub-satoshi units in order to facilitate microtransactions that really aren't even so micro anymore. Assuming of course that billion dollar valuation isn't simply because a cart of groceries costs $10,000...
That's how I see it anyway; is there an angle you see I'm missing?

How does it force you to use custodial services? Surely you can hold 150 bitcoin on a cold wallet just the same as holding 150 sats.
Never mind the fact that if you're worried about it being all in one wallet you can use multiple wallets...

Prisons lock you up. Asylums actually lobotomized people. Never mind the sort of human experimentation they did. Radioactive oatmeal being one phenomenon that comes to mind from a nearby institution.
Eugenics was often so widely embraced because compared to these institutions IT was seen as the more compassionate approach.

Personally I'm using a custodial wallet, which interestingly does work with Amethyst, though not most other Nostr clients, as it doesn't actually use NWC. It's called Speed Wallet ( https://www.speed.app ) , and you can use it with a Chrome Extension even without a smartphone.
Might be handy while you're getting things rolling, and then when you've got the liquidity to support it, get your own node up and running later.
That's what I'm doing anyway, while stacking sats from a silly amount of app sources.

Second reply here. Two state solution...well, best of luck there. I don't see the state of "Israel" to likely be a thing in 5-10 years, as they seem pretty hellbent on self destruction. But that's speculation after watching quite a bit of analysis, and it's certainly not a sure thing, nor worth much argument.
My ideal would be a single Palestinian state without the apartheid system, which is the stated goal of the various resistance factions. Though I have to say after this genocide it's going to be hard to bury the hatchet and stay neighborly. Post-apartheid South Africa wasn't without it's bumpy ride (and still isn't), and that was without the wholesale slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people, forced displacement, and utterly inhumane living conditions. It'll likely take some brave Jews to stick around and try to help patch things over once the state falls, if that is to be the path. Strange things do happen sometimes though.

The scam donation pages are disgusting. Aside from those I've spent quite a bit of time talking to who I didn't meet through such requests (which is a small handful), I've resolved to only direct funds to UNRWA and other well known, reputable organizations.
Pulling at heartstrings is something scammers are particularly good at. Better to aid an organization with systems in place for vetting the veracity of recipients of aid, and who can benefit from scaling as well, than to risk sending money to these swine.
Scaling isn't to be discounted either -- 100 individuals spending $10 on food isn't going to go as far as an organization spending $1000 on food. Keep your head on straight, even if your heart is rightfully freaking the fuck out.

I picked up showers as cold as I can make them about a year ago and while it took some time to get used to, I find warm showers a bit of an oddity at this point. You strip less of your natural oils, and while I do start my day with matcha (and more, depending how much sleep I've had), nothing wakes me up like the shower.
Curious how cold the water really is of course, as I have done a pool on New Year's Eve in the mountains, which definitely stepped it up a notch. But I haven't stacked enough sats to buy a dedicated cold plunge in my house.
I feel silly making suggestions because of how put together your regimen is and has been as documented elsewhere, but ever look at the StrongFirst kettlebell material? If deadlifts are bitcoin, kettlebell swings are the lightning network. The one might be solid, but the other makes you solid AND fast. 30 min a day is plenty to work in 10 sets of swings (5x each arm) and 10 Turkish Get Ups, after which most any other working out is just icing on the cake.

Lightning isn't all that broadly understood yet, even if you've followed the news from a distance. Seeing it in action on Nostr really stepped up my ap'reciation of what it means.
