Second reply here. Two state solution...well, best of luck there. I don't see the state of "Israel" to likely be a thing in 5-10 years, as they seem pretty hellbent on self destruction. But that's speculation after watching quite a bit of analysis, and it's certainly not a sure thing, nor worth much argument.
My ideal would be a single Palestinian state without the apartheid system, which is the stated goal of the various resistance factions. Though I have to say after this genocide it's going to be hard to bury the hatchet and stay neighborly. Post-apartheid South Africa wasn't without it's bumpy ride (and still isn't), and that was without the wholesale slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people, forced displacement, and utterly inhumane living conditions. It'll likely take some brave Jews to stick around and try to help patch things over once the state falls, if that is to be the path. Strange things do happen sometimes though.

Lightning isn't all that broadly understood yet, even if you've followed the news from a distance. Seeing it in action on Nostr really stepped up my ap'reciation of what it means.

Personally, the lack of an algorithm, and the control over what I see (be it through follows, hashtags, or follows of follows) leaves me fairly unconcerned with the overall cruft that'll undoubtedly arrive as the network grows. Twitter isn't a cesspool because it's big; it's a cesspool because you get shoveled garbage you don't want to see designed specifically to instill division, and you get blocked from seeing stuff you want to see because it's deemed to be wrongthink.
But yes, there's something nice about being able to just throw on the "latest Global" feed and still mostly seeing stuff that at the very least doesn't make you hate humanity.

I tend to agree. And while her affiliations with Scientology are amusing I can't say I ever cared about Linkin' Park on that level for it to bother me. Chester's vocals were always worthy of a degree of admiration, and they've done him justice with by bringing on Emily.
That said, careful calling her his replacement; not everyone's so keen on that terminology due to some loaded meaning, even if it is on some levels technically accurate. Successor may be more apt.

Linux did turn lame on MOST distros, thanks to systems and the general degeneracy of Lennart Poettering, so I see how that arc might happen. And the BSD's are fine but not really the most polished as a desktop experience. As far as I'm concerned though Apple is still the Fischer Price of technology.
Slackware is still true to form and I don't see any reason to switch.

Price up is great, if you're looking to sell or spend. It'll go up in time -- it's deflationary in nature after all. Not sure I share the enthusiasm for rushing it. The uptrend is at least motivating for walking more with the sMiles app and finding other ways to stack sats though.

I could see a use case in the breakdown, but I'd push back that that's a bit like backing out any BTC on the Lightning network because things on Lightning are generally presumed to be "in use" rather than pure investments.

It definitely went downhill years ago when it got less about finding what you WANTED with hashtags, to seeing what was prescribed for you by the algorithm. When even the Followed feed is cultivated by the algorithm, rather than showing you what you asked to see, and there is no override aside from manually looking up what you're looking for, things are very, very broken.
The early days were nice. I'm not planning on leaving terribly soon if only because this is still a fairly undiversified crowd, but definitely scrolling more here, less there.

Anyone else using #Fountain? Having issues linking Nostr. Signing in on android with my email. Tried signing in with key instead, but found I couldn't interface with lightning that way. Every time I try to link on the app it says something went wrong, and if it persists, to contact support.
Interestingly enough, on my browser it says I was able to successfully link but nothing has worked to make that appear on the app side of things, including clearing app cache, logging out and back in again, or even joining the beta on the play store.
I know it's super new to the #Nostr world but if anyone knows how I can get it working I'd appreciate it!

I'm deeply considering setting up Umbrel but it's a non-trivial cost at the moment. Gotta learn more about how backing up wallets works; maybe I'll just set up a node on my Slackware desktop.
Speed wallet is working as I did get 30 sats but it feels less functional than things like Alby appear to be.

Depressing to see so many Lightning wallets unavailable in the US. Speed Wallet seems to work with Amethyst but doesn't tie in so well with other Nostr apps. Was hoping to try Alby but having a hard time finding a custodial wallet to link it with. Any Americans got recommendations here? Aside from self custody -- thats an eventuality but just looking for quick and dirty at the moment as I feel out the ecosystem. #wallet #lightning #alby

1. They'd be less likely to break in, at least, all other things being equal.
2. Privatized police is a loaded term, given that police normally have privileges that the average civilian doesn't have. Try putting a siren on your car to see what I mean there. we have examples of privatized police forces, such as on university campuses, and at the end of the day, it becomes about who is and who isn't a stakeholder in the outcomes of their interactions.
Community policing is or at least can be another matter. it may not appeal as much to the absolute hardliner libertarian capitalists as it does still have a police force that answers to a LOCAL community assembly directly, cutting out abstract notions of representative governments, often nested into local, state, and national levels.
We can look to the EZLN in Chiapas for examples of outcomes with this sort of model.
Then finally we can question, what privileges are ultimately required for a police force to begin with, particularly where the populace is appropriately armed? The extent to which we do away with things like qualified immunity and other similar privileges, the less police and civilians separate into a two-tier society.
Personally my preferences do lean a bit to community policing in moderately sized communities where appropriate combined with limiting privileges. But I can't say I think it works in all communities -- particularly large cities. Traditional private police forces ARE workable, but it is imperative that incentives be aligned such that they are defending justice rather than just a gang with badges.
As for those incentives, that gets into how you address courts in a minimal/no government environment. Perhaps a question for another note.

Signal has for years been an issue in that it is only distributed officially on the official repositories for Android and iOS. And this opens you pretty wide up to have an update pushed, as these repos are tantamount to a root kit.
Moxie Marlinspike has had this issue brought to his attention for years at this point, and his unwillingness to truly address it speaks volumes.
At the end of the day it all depends who you're trying to ensure privacy from. If it's the NSA, you really should consider using One Time Pad cryptography, which is unbreakable when implemented correctly, but is far from convenient. Anything else should be considered to be taking short cuts -- which are always going to be worth weighing the risk/benefits of.

It helps that there's no margin calls. If anything, in many states you can just send jinglemail and only be out the cash you've put down while the RMBS holders scramble to recoup whatever they can with a house they never wanted to have to sell -- usually amid a falling market.
The way risks are distorted by the political machinations of the mortgage industry makes it pretty painfully obvious why the housing market is such a mess. And then they have the audacity to blame expensive housing on "capitalism."

Might be motivation to look into FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early).
Personally I've learned I prefer one boss I can understand rather than trying to work for customers directly (ie, having a whole bunch of bosses). We all pick our poison I suppose. Shave down your wants, however, and you'll shave down the extent to which you'll be beholden to your income streams.

Doing it as preference is probably the only way to effectively do this given the decentralized nature of the platform. Disappaearing content requires centralized control,and Imus why there is no disappearing email.
Relays ignoring the preference would be akin to someone screenshotting tweets or snaps. Once you share something it's never 100% under your control anyway.
The one alarming thing with Nostr though is that while screenshots can be fabricated, and thus aren't always trustworthy, your Nostr notes are cryptographically signed, so you lose that deniability.just worth being aware of.

Podcasts and audiobooks have made something that used to seem like a time consuming activity without much intensity into a much more worthwhile task. Especially complex trading or economic podcasts which don't lend themselves as well to a more distracting activity such as grocery shopping or even cooking.
Bring along a kendama to hone fine motor control and hand eye coordination while you go. Though walking rather than standing does add additional difficulty to kendama.
