“Don’t Trust, Verify: Maya Parbhoe, “The Next Bitcoin President of Suriname”
Dear Bitcoin community,
I was in Suriname a few weeks ago with a goal in mind: to meet the local BTC community and, hopefully, the "presidential candidate" Maya Parbhoe. This was my experience.
While planning the trip, I reached out to Maya via her Telegram channel to explore the possibility of meeting. I was quickly referred to her “assistant” Terance, who responded promptly and told me to reach out once I arrived. Okay, fair enough — who am I to demand time from someone “running for president”? (At the time, I didn’t yet know she was pregnant.) After all, I’m not a famous Bitcoin celebrity. But I am a prominent figure in Curaçao’s booming Bitcoin community and had raised a considerable amount of funds for her campaign.
A few days before my arrival, I checked in again — same story. When I finally landed and reached out while strolling through Paramaribo — a city I hadn’t visited in over a decade — I couldn’t help but notice the drastic economic change. The exchange rate had gone from 1 USD = 3.5 SRD during my last visit to 1 USD = 35 SRD now.
Terance replied quickly and said he was at a café with another foreign guest (apologies, I forgot the person’s name and nationality). I took the opportunity and met them right away. I was warmly welcomed and treated with genuine Surinamese hospitality. We talked for over an hour about our lives, Bitcoin journeys, and ambitions.
Over the next few days, I met up with Terance again and had the pleasure of attending a lecture/course hosted by the local BTC Sranan community — held above what I’m told is Maya’s business (a parcel freight forwarding service from the U.S. to Suriname). I had drinks and met various local merchants. The lecture was given by an American missionary who moved to Suriname years ago to teach and decided to stay. His dedication and patience were truly inspiring — every educator should take note. I’m extremely grateful for his efforts and for all of BTC Sranan’s work toward merchant adoption and Bitcoin awareness.
Now, to the topic of this post: Maya Parbhoe
First and foremost, I’m not in the business of destroying reputations. I’m in the business of protecting ours — the true Bitcoiners. I want there to be a “next Bitcoin president,” and Suriname certainly deserves one.
But red flags were immediately raised when I asked the local Bitcoiners about Maya — they didn’t want to talk about her. Strange, right? You’d expect someone running for office under the Bitcoin banner to be a welcomed topic. But perhaps it’s better — and probably for the best — to separate the local Bitcoin community from one person’s political ambitions. Or so I thought.
While there, I dug deeper into her so-called “political campaign” and asked a variety of locals — from taxi drivers to businesspeople — about Maya. Not a single one (outside of Bitcoin circles) had heard of her. When I brought up her political party, the NPS, the general response was that it’s a minor, insignificant party with no real chance of winning.
A quick note on Surinamese politics: I won’t go too deep here, as I’m not intimately familiar with all the parties and political drama of past decades. But it’s important to know that Suriname is a parliamentary democracy. Voters elect a party, not a candidate, to represent them in parliament (the legislative branch). Generally, the winning party chooses the Minister-President (Prime Minister) to lead the government. Maya is listed as #21 (wink-wink) on the NPS candidate list.
Additionally, I could not find any mention of Bitcoin in the official communications from the NPS. So clearly, this isn’t an official stance of the party. Red flag.
So, her claim that she’s “running for president of Suriname” is, to put it mildly, a massive stretch. Furthermore, this narrative is only pushed to her international audience — through X, Nostr, podcasts, and events. Her local messaging (mainly via Facebook and local media) is entirely different. Another red flag.
Now, Suriname is known for corruption — and for serious threats to individuals who oppose power. Maya’s father was murdered in 2001, reportedly connected to a money laundering and trafficking case, where he had served as a whistleblower. I confirmed this through archived articles. So, potential threats to her life should be taken seriously, given the history and the current security climate.
That said, she had already begun claiming that there were threats against her — possibly based on the above. But during my stay, a new controversy arose: she was summoned to testify in a human traffickingcase involving the import of people from India to Suriname. Odd. She claims this is an attack by authorities aligned with the ruling party. That mightbe true — but who really knows?
Also, she was pregnant. Not the most ideal timing to begin a presidential campaign — especially your first child. Red flag?
Then came a flood of claims about threats, political interference, and safety concerns — which, to be fair, is part of politics. But again, the narratives were drastically different depending on the audience — local vs. foreign. Just compare her Facebook posts to what she shares on X/Nostr. Red flag?
As I was leaving the country, the "security situation" escalated. She claimed to have hired 24/7 armed security — probably funded by international donations. If true, I’d consider that an unfortunate but understandable expense.
But things got weirder. I won’t repeat all the well-documented incidents — from cryptic social media posts to the bizarre “SOS” X-Space. At one point, she hired a professional security firm, which quickly dropped her. According to a reliable source, the CEO bluntly stated they stopped working with her and warned others against doing so.
Then she made the outrageous claim that she was being protected by the U.S. Secret Service (or some equivalent). This was so absurd it caught local media attention. When questioned, she said she made the post while “medicated” to ease pregnancy pains. Huge red flag.
Clearly, the way she has raised international funds is, to say the least, misleading. And if she truly believes in government transparency, Maya must start by being transparent herself. Justify where the donations went. Proof of funds, please.
I — and I suspect many of us — let wishful thinking get ahead of us.

What i found strange about it, though, was giving central value to "freedom", "order" and progress, but not mentioning "security". I get that he's trying to couch it in ways that can appeal to the more privacy skeptic, but this ends up being overly convoluted. No serious person can argue against the necessity of security.

Hi, no need to thank me, I just ramble about what I think, see.
The 'system' haa a long history
In earlier days bankruns happened way more often.
Not because the abuse was bigger, but because the systems were smaller.
If a gold keeper (what we call bank nowadays) would abuse his holdings, since he realized only a fraction of kept gold was ever asked back simultaneously any given time, and spender enough of that gold he kept, it would ne clear to the village he was living above his standard and the bankrun would start.
From that moment one they realized enlargement of the system made things more stable and also easier to abuse on a way bigger scale.
We now have reached the maximum scaling possible with current society.
And the abuse is likewise peaking.
(Look at the debt, derivatives, bubbles everywhere, etc etc.)
Sofar they simply blew up the whole and forced everyone in the next system they prepared.
Pretty sure the have/had the same in mind this time.
But that one thing, #Bitcoin, came along.
It is our first shot at more freedom and escaping the fiat gang in a long time, even without violence...........
The only question left is how will this work out.
Is war inevitable ?
Is a scorched earth prefered by them rather than giving up power.
Will enough people put up the energy to understand #Bitcoin (they can take over #Bitcoin if given the chance).

低人权优势其实并不是中共国独有的优势，其他低人权国家同样也可以向投资人提供大量廉价劳动力。在压榨员工、打压基本人权方面，只要有利可图，别的伤害链主随时可以比中共改开系技术官僚们更凶残。
但中华沦陷区今天已经形成的规模优势和产业生态，是极难在短时间内被迁移到其他地区并完美复制的。
你可以搬走一家厂、十家厂，但你能不能同时搬走整个产业生态？你又能不能同时搬走正支撑着整个产业生态的熟练工人社群和不断在“创业-破产”循环中保持着活力的小微企业集群？
你不能。
这是和整体搬走一座热带雨林，从其中的珍稀动物到土壤中的菌群一样不落下那样，不可能做到的事。
但“中国制造”的优势就来源于此。
改开四十年，发展到今天，中国制造的核心优势早就不再单纯是“廉价”二字了。
虽然仍和廉价脱不了干系——它如今的核心优势，和你在那些快销平台如SHEIN上看到的一样，是以极快的速度做到的廉价，是以最低的成本响应市场提出的最微小需求。
是一个擅长把任何一种订单做到最低价格的供应体系，在长期“训练”中达到的最高效率，即让任意一份订单在最短时间内整合供应链中最低价供应商，从而“找到”自己的最低成本价的能力。
这份能力，其他地区没有。
而且想要有，也很难。
因为其他地区没有中共国这样的人口规模，或者就算有足够数量的人口，也没有象中共国改开初期那样足够数量的，既受过初等教育，又在传统文化氛围中接受过大量服从性训练，还在中共“前三十年”的政治运动中基本被打破了对传统社群组织的人身依附的人口。
没有亿万的“打工妹”，制造业难以起飞。
川普是真心希望制造业能回流美国，或者至少一部分回流美国的。
但在经历了这么多年的消费力流失、制造业空洞化之后，美国本土的人口结构已经和制造业高峰时期大不相同。
那些找不到工作的美国人已经不再是随时能进厂就业，能适应制造业回流初期的劳动力需求的人了。
用惯了中共国工人的企业，也早已不知道该如何和美国本土工人相处，不知道该如何把全无经验但满脑子对旧日美好时光追念的生手调教成熟手——在管理上，这难度和把中共国的国企老资格老员工调教成民企合格打工人差相仿佛。
所以，让制造业回流美国，就象让离婚多年的夫妻重修旧好一样。不是完全没可能成功，但要跨越许多障碍，要经历各种磨合，爱得不够坚贞的夫妇是做不到的。
世界工厂当然有可能在川普政府和其他欧美有识之士的大力推动下，把它的一部分搬回欧美本土。
但短时间内完全回迁是不可能的。
而不完全的回迁，分散式的迁移，就会令它丧失规模优势，令它丧失因现有产业生态的完整性而得来的效率优势。
虽然即使世界工厂留在中华沦陷区，这份效率优势也会因产业工人的后继乏人而逐渐消失。
中共国正在经历一场人口崩塌。
出生率的下降只是整场崩塌中最不重要的部分。
困难已经显现，显现于年轻人找不到工作，而一线生产部门招不到合格工人。在教育培训方面，供需的错位是长期存在的，作为世界工厂的现址，中共国政府一直在用培养牲人而不是打工人的方式教育下一代人口，中共国企业也仗着自己建在人口大国，总想着“缺人招就好”，几乎从不在人才储备、学徒培养方面进行投资。
“学而优则仕”的传统教育理念也令绝大多数家长在实现温饱后，把对孩子的教育指向了“考公”而不是“进厂”。
和美国同样尴尬的是，即使在今天仍然是世界工厂的中共国，人口结构也是“错”的，下一代人口也并不是能顺利适应当前制造业生产生活方式的人口。
在中共国，仍奋战在一线的工人，许多已经头发花白。
她们就是当年的打工妹，他们就是当年的打工仔。她们的女儿不想进厂，想做直播，想做网红。他们的儿子不想进厂，宁可跑滴滴送外卖。
世界工厂真正的困境，其实不是要不要从中共国搬回美国、欧洲的问题。
是现在这种制造业生产生活方式，在不对人口进行有意识塑造，进行人口学上的可持续发展投资的情况下，还能维持多久的问题。
看清了真相，你就会发现，能留住世界工厂的，既不是中共国也不是美国，是能为未来的世界工厂准备合适人口基础的国家和地区，是能解决问题的人。
美国、欧洲、中华沦陷区未来可能涌现的新兴国家，谁能先看清问题，谁能先解决问题，谁就会是世界工厂的新址，谁就会成为追求低成本高效率的市场必然指向的选择。
而在这个过程中，在令制造业人口供应从“一代绝”状态变得可持续的过程中，低人权优势是首先必须被放弃的东西。
培养牲人的教育体制，重视权术轻视技术的教育观念，同样是必须被放弃的东西。
在争夺成为世界工厂新址的竞赛里，美国、欧洲、中华沦陷区各有优势，也各有短板。

I'm going to be posting frequently.
If you're here, you believe in many of the same things I do.
My background is as a ChemE with 30 years of data architecture experience. I'm Medical Informatics faculty at a four-year medical college.
Last night, I was thinking about the cycles of my condition and the parallels with the cycles with our economy, the world, and bitcoin.
All these things have cycles. None of these systems are actually stable systems. In ChemE you take a process and controls class. You learn all about systems and how to modulate them by adjusting inputs and outputs. You learn how to recognize if a system is stable or unstable, batch or steady-state.
The Fourth Turning is a real thing. Our world is a system. It is inherently unstable with the current inputs and outputs. You can see that, over time, in the debt cycles.
Bitcoin adoption is still early, and so it comes in cycles as things overheat and fall back.
Similarly, my physiology is going through cycles caused by an treatment that brought about an interaction between my immune system and candidiasis.

Here, as I go through what is most certainly the final portions of my condition, I will record the changes and share my journey through the thoroughly deficient medical system. Yes, after 30 years trying to explain what I have while understanding the basics from an actual medical textbook, no one has ever heard of it. It's incredibly bizarre to have something that science redacted, especially when it can so insidiously hide from tests.
How does it hide? In short, the problem is my system stores excess electrolyte in interstitial spaces. So, blood tests show normal levels while abnormal levels exist in the space outside of circulation. Over time, this condition results in dramatic loss of blood volume, hidden by, among other things, the elecyrolytes pushed into the flesh.
How does this take place? Changes in pH, circulation, pressures, and hormones caused by a pituitary put into a state of overdrive.
Why post here?
This is the future of social media. It's inevitable, I think.

With that the government also demands that all social platforms must provide tools to decrypt all encrypted content & restrict features for "minor accounts" such as expiring messages e2ee in dms & all social content be in full disclosure to parents. This means if a parent has a social account they must identify whos their children & all their childrens content they will be able to fully monitor.
In other words no privacy for teens, everythings 100% exposed to parents, platforn moderators, & government. Now if this isn't infringing on the constitution then idk what is. But that's how our system works. A fucked up law gets passed takes months & possibly years to combat to rescind & by the time it does the government will have done what they wanted.
The real reason this law was passed is not to as they always bullshit the world. Protect the children were establishing KOSA (Kids Online Safety Act) BULLDSHIT!
DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIES THE ONLY THING THEY REALLY WANT IS THESE DECRYPTION TOOLS! Once they have them then they will use it illegally on adults till someone gets caught then they will make a bill turn it into law & make it acceptable nobody goes to prison for violating rights then it becomes legal.
Whenever anyone says we're doing it to protect the children red flags should go off in your head. You need to say this is an enemy of freedom I must defeat this oppressor. The only way you can stop this is by protesting in mass & organizing a demand of ballot to rescind the law!
Our dead patriots are probably rolling in their graves looking down on us from heaven saying to each other. We died so these people have the right to vote, the right to challenge, the privliage to change & make a difference. Everything we did so we could be free from a monarchy government & not even 5% of the people excercise those rights & privliages. They just think it's all bullshit & pointless.

after how bad i was feeling last night i finally have made the decision to stop drinking alcohol altogether
the reasons were that red wine had allergens in it, and the acid and tannins were messing with my kidneys, the spirits were not so bad but generally i was mixing them with orange juice or schweppes mixers that have cyclamate and saccharin, which both are taxing on the kidneys...
but i picked up the tobacco again, and am finding that it seems to fill the same hole that was keeping me on the bottle so yeah, i am really actually swapping the booze for the brown weed... still annoying issues around burned throat but overall the less toxic for my weak kidneys so i will likely smoke for a while as i recover
very likely my kidneys have started to really get back to function as i eliminated red wine and coffee, i was getting frequent mild pain in the area of my kidneys for some time and now i'm about 3 weeks clear of caffeine, i don't have any pain any more
i'm not afraid of quitting the nicotine at some point in the near future, but i want to give some time to get adjusted to the lack of alcohol
probably the nicotine is also helping by having some suppressive effect on my appetite because part of what i was drinking for was the energy content, both the sugars and the alcohol itself, so having less hunger means i'm not craving for the carbs so much
i'm also dialing back my intake of fried potato chips too, i'm sure that the sunflower oil and canola oil was not helping in some way as well
i am feeling much more calm and focused now without alcohol or caffeine and i think the nicotine helps a little bit with the focus, so i probably will smoke for a month or two and then finally be fully straight edge

i've got a back-burner project to build out an adequate widget toolkit for the gio golang native and it can do one codebase for all platforms including web
i finally got fed up with how they had continued to keep important, and occasionally changing parts of the widget toolkit inside an internal (unable to be accessed from a separate project) and i wrote a little web script with sed to rename all of the internal folders and it allows me to maintain parity with their codebase without its limitations
so, it's coming also... i've been wanting to make a legit instant messaging protocol like IRC using nostr relays, complete with nickserv and chanserv and an ephemeral-first focused messaging scheme (the chanserv caches messages, and the nickserv controls access)

I use Alex from my phone, sometimes, and it does both well. That's legit nice.
1) Because it's going to be Alexandria. Already 1/2 done.
2) Because it's the viewer for my CLI, and I therefore use it from my Linux laptop.
3) No point making a desktop app, as our other app (#GitRepublic) is going to be Linux.
4) Because I am not going to write articles on my phone, but with a web app, I could.
5) Because I can off-Nostr share stuff on it with elegant OpenGraph hyperlinks.
6) I hardly use my phone.

I learned almost everything I knew about bitcoin from there, I guess if I did not start my education on that sub I might have ended up buying all sorts of shitcoins. I owe the plebs on that sub.
