@nprofile…u7e3 is right, but the US administration does not tell the Americans the truth. So they blame it on the others, Chinese and Europeans and unfair tariffs. De-industrialization and structural deficits are the price the US pays to be able to run the “empire” and pay for the “forever wars” without destroying the purchasing power of the dollar in relation to other currencies. This was the US “exorbitant privilege”. This was based on the Petrodollar recycling system. This is over now.
Trump knows that and he is trying to save the fading hegemon from collapse by playing the last cards in a new game few have really understood:
- he tells the Chinese to take their money and leave
- he uses tariff threats to try to bring back home some critical strategic productions
- since all this damages global dollar flows, which is incompatible with dollar hegemony, he needs to create an alternative to the Petrodollar system to support US debt and force global dollar flows back into US Treasuries. And this can only be achieved by using a neutral reserve asset globally denominated in dollars because China, India, Russia and most of the global south will stay away from US Debt and US assets. The neutral reserve asset is #bitcoin and Trump will force stablecoin issuers to buy US Tbills and continue financing US deficit spending. To make this a functioning virtuous loop the US will need to push up #bitcoin prices which will attract more dollars into #tether which will flow into Tbills. This is the birth of the #bitcoindollar system. Beware that gold cannot be used in this case because only stablecoins issuers are able to channel dollar flows into US debt. This is the critical point.

The issue is more nuanced, for instance:
- “trophy” real estate carries a higher monetary premium and it is likely to retain it because it is objectively scarce (unique location, unique architecture, period buildings etc). This is less than 1% of the properties.
- properties with a yield will be repriced according to the yield and alternative investment yields with similar risk profile.
- all the rest will gradually lose the monetary premium and revert to utility value depending on characteristics of the property and its relative supply-demand on the specific market.
- generally though, excluding the first 2 variables above, real estate should be increasingly demonetized as an asset class if #bitcoin adoption as a SOV increases. This, however, will be contingent on how governments will act because they cannot afford a real estate collapse. Real estate is one of the biggest sources of tax revenue for all governments. Therefore the incentive will be to keep interest low and keep the bubble afloat. On the other side there are strong deflationary forces. Consider the EU for a second. In the last 40-50 years the middle class has used real estate as its main SOV. The middle class was growing wealthier and many had second and even third houses. Usually empty. No returns, just maintenance costs. Now the middle class has been decimated and they cannot afford such properties anymore. Where is all this stock of properties going? Think about it…

Bottom-up adoption drives the "currency" function, while top-down adoption #bitcoindollarsystem drives prices up and SOV function. The two are complementary. Btw did you read my book? Just want to add one key point to the analysis of capital flows leaving the US: those flows are not recycled back into US debt anymore. They are leaving forever for reasons that US blind policymakers fail to understand:
1. The US is deemed “agreement” incapable by Russia, China, India and the whole non-western world.
2. Once those countries take strategic partnership agreements like China and Russia they plan ahead for half a century or more. Nothing like the western short-termism. Good luck driving a wedge between them now.
3. Once a system cannot be trusted anymore (sanctions, tariffs and violent enforcement) there are many alternatives even without an alternative reserve currency to the dollar.
4. The largest trading blocs of the planet (BRICS, SCO and BRI) already recycle dollars into local economies and infrastructure projects.
5. China issues dollar denominated bonds to collect global dollar liquidity from the global South to recycle into BRI infrastructure projects. Good luck bringing this money back into the US.
