It isn’t easy being different. Living a lifestyle outside of the norm. The judging, the unsolicited opinions, the glazed over, dumbfounded stares as we walk by. The struggle for people to understand how we do it, but when we explain it, we find they don’t really want to know how we do it, they just want to be able to gossip, to judge and then snicker and speak through the sides of their mouths about how they wouldn’t never do it, even though deep down inside they know they can’t.
I’ve always liked being on the outside, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. There are times when it wears on me, where I have seeds of doubt, or moments of second guessing. But in the end, I know what’s right for myself and my family. Let them stare. Let them judge. We’re big. We’re loud and we don’t give a fuck.

It made me realize that every group that's organizing these local protests should have someone in charge of #accessibility, both in-person accessibility and making sure those who can't attend have ways to participate as well.

Hours after Senate Republicans approved their latest budget plan Saturday morning, at least three GOP deficit hawks in the House - the maximum number of R's Speaker Mike Johnson can lose - blasted the package over a lack of spending cuts.

In the classic ways of Washington, the Senate’s budget presents a fantastic top-line message – that we should return spending back to the pre-COVID trajectory (modified for higher interest, Medicare, and Social Security) of $6.5 Trillion, rather than the current trajectory of over $7 Trillion – but has ZERO enforcement to achieve it, and plenty of signals it is designed purposefully NOT to achieve it.
The House Budget is seemingly more modest in its objectives – perhaps OVERLY modest – in laying out a floor of $200B in reductions in spending increases (not cuts). But that “floor” establishes important guardrails to force Congress to pump the brakes on runaway spending and to achieve critical reforms to badly broken Medicaid, food stamp, and welfare programs currently being abused to subsidize illegals, the able-bodied, and blue states.
The America First agenda requires boldness from Congress, not timidity. President Trump’s leadership – and risk taking – requires the same from Republicans in Congress, not more of the same selfish vote-buying, big-spending pork that got us into this debt crisis. We can and must cut BOTH the statutory taxes Americans pay AND the inflation tax they increasingly pay because of Congressional failure.
Failure is not an option. And the Senate’s budget is a path to failure. Instead, we should get busy drafting a reconciliation package that will work - that will ACTUALLY produce spending reductions that will, as a start, return to the pre-COVID spending path - and deliver on the promises we campaigned upon.
Maryland Republican Rep. Andy Harris also chimed in, saying he "can’t support House passage of the Senate changes to our budget resolution until I see the actual spending and deficit reduction plans to enact President Trump’s America First agenda."
Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-PA) said he "certainly can't support it as written" Thursday night.

House Budget Chair Jodey Arrington (R-TX) called the plan "unserious and disappointing" Saturday morning, but didn't go so far as to explicitly say he would oppose it.
As noted above, Johnson cannot lose more than three Republicans on a party-line vote with his 220-213 majority, which doesn't bode well considering that several other House Republicans have characterized the Senate's plan as fiscally irresponsible, and insist that any budget plan should at least be deficit-neutral, while any tax cuts should also be tied to tax cuts. For instance, while the Senate plan sets a modest $4 billion floor for spending reductions, the budget blueprint that House Republicans passed in February calls for $2 trillion in spending cuts.

Meanwhile, the Senate budget uses an accounting tactic that zeroes out the cost of extending trillions in expiring tax cuts. In a Saturday letter to their members, Johnson and the other top three House GOP leaders said that approving the Senate budget would "allow us to finally begin the most important phase of this process: drafting the reconciliation bill that will deliver on President Trump’s agenda and our promises to the American people."
"With the debt limit X-date approaching, border security resources diminishing, markets unsettled, and the largest tax increase on working families looming, time is of the essence," they wrote.

Microsoft has created a real-time AI-generated rendition of Quake II gameplay (playable on the web).
Friday Xbox's general manager of gaming AI posted the startling link to "an AI-generated gaming experience" at Copilot.Microsoft.com "Move, shoot, explore — and every frame is created on the fly by an AI world model, responding to player inputs in real-time. Try it here."
They started with their "Muse" videogame world models, adding "a real-time playable extension" that players can interact with through keyboard/controller actions, "essentially allowing you to play inside the model," according to a Microsoft blog post.
A concerted effort by the team resulted in both planning out what data to collect (what game, how should the testers play said game, what kind of behaviours might we need to train a world model, etc), and the actual collection, preparation, and cleaning of the data required for model training. Much to our initial delight we were able to play inside the world that the model was simulating. We could wander around, move the camera, jump, crouch, shoot, and even blow-up barrels similar to the original game. Additionally, since it features in our data, we can also discover some of the secrets hidden in this level of Quake II. We can also insert images into the models' context and have those modifications persist in the scene...
We do not intend for this to fully replicate the actual experience of playing the original Quake II game. This is intended to be a research exploration of what we are able to build using current ML approaches. Think of this as playing the model as opposed to playing the game... The interactions with enemy characters is a big area for improvement in our current WHAMM model. Often, they will appear fuzzy in the images and combat with them (damage being dealt to both the enemy/player) can be incorrect.
They warn that the model "can and will forget about objects that go out of view" for longer than 0.9 seconds. "This can also be a source of fun, whereby you can defeat or spawn enemies by looking at the floor for a second and then looking back up. Or it can let you teleport around the map by looking up at the sky and then back down. These are some examples of playing the model."
This generative AI model was trained on Quake II "with just over a week of data," reports Tom's Hardware — a dramatic reduction from the seven years required for the original model launched in February.

"It's clear that Microsoft is now training Muse on more games than just Bleeding Edge," notes The Verge, "and it's likely we'll see more short interactive AI game experiences in Copilot Labs soon."

I made the same mistake and unintentionally pruned 800GB of data I’d accumulated down to under 300MB of just the important stuff that’ll fit on a thumb drive. It was a project that, had I done it intentionally would have taken a couple days. It’s like cleaning out a hoarder’s house vs burning every except the fire safe.

For the past five years, David Liu – a professor at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, a biomedical research facility in Massachusetts
– has marked Thanksgiving by handing over his entire annual salary, after taking care of taxes, to the staff and students in his laboratory.

Liu was chosen for inventing two exceptionally precise gene editing tools, namely base editing and prime editing.

Progress, they hope, will lead to therapeutics that correct the mutations responsible for thousands of genetic diseases.
