Freecycle.org is a great website to offer and find free stuff.
My wife has been asking me for a while for more laying boxes since she wants to double the chicken flock..
Found these two lockers on Freecycle, pulled the doors and latches off, screwed them to the studs, added a roost/access bar and voila

Well it’s that time of the year again to go nomadic. Always good to take a break from the Texas heat for a few months with the fam in the sprinter van!
First we’re heading northwest for a wedding near the Rogue River in Oregon, then up the coast to the Olympic peninsula, then the Cascades, northern Idaho/western Montana, then heading south through Yellowstone/Tetons, central colorado and back home.
If any of you are in those areas (or on the way) with recommendations or want to meet up shoot me a message!
Hopefully will post some photos from the road.

Yea I’ve had good success selling potted trees and shrubs on Nextdoor gardening groups in my local area. Check out the groups if you haven’t already- or start your own if none exist
I always make windows of time when people can come and buy so my time doesn’t get wasted.
And when multiple people are shopping at once they tend to grab more bc of perceived scarcity

I see it with my nieces and nephews and it makes my heart hurt.
The parents say “oh my kids will only eat this or that”. No! They will eat good food if you don’t have the other stuff around- it’s not that complicated.
If the parents don’t value real food then the kids definitely will eat junk since it’s more convenient/cheaper

Just finished this little shelf for the kids toys. Not the prettiest, but it’s rock solid.
Cut the juniper trees at a friend’s ranch so his cattle would have more pasture to graze, then milled it at my neighbor’s.
Hopefully it’s a 7 generation piece for the family- just need to stain it
The breadbox in the 1st pic is a 5th generation hand-me-down that my great grandfather built.
We need to be building more things like that!

I used to do parasite cleanses until I learned that they only appear when there are heavy metals in our system to be detoxed. Was taught that they can actually help us- which blew my mind.

Brings great joy watching the kids lead their friends around the homestead- starting with the mulberries then to the peaches, then a stop at the snap peas before checking on the strawberries.
They are being patient with the blueberries and blackberries which aren’t fully ripe yet.

I agree that the generation division is not great, and I try not to lump people into “cohorts” but man the boomers are easy to pigeonhole. Obviously these are generalities and don’t apply to all..
The positives: they are fun loving, generous, optimistic, self-assured, hard working, trusting.
The negatives: they’re naive and obedient to legacy institutions (govt, tech, media, white coats).
Most of them write off bitcoin and alternatives to the dollar and 401ks.
So many are disconnected from the natural world and as a result are not great stewards of land. Largely consumers who have little concept of where things come from or how that thing impacts the world beyond them (lifecycles of products)
They have a really hard time seeing health as a holistic system and how things are connected, and don’t like to acknowledge that they’re going to die (and in many cases plan for it)
These are just a few of my observations after being raised by boomers and getting to know their siblings and friends well.
Each generation has its pros and cons, and that’s ok. We all bear responsibility for where we are as a whole society

“Healthcare” is actually sick care and the longer someone is on a drug the more $ doctors and pharma make.
We must learn to be our own primary care while eating clean food, mitigating toxins, and moving the body regularly
Public schools are actually indoctrination camps to create obedient workers
“News” organizations are just propaganda arms of the state.
I’ve slowly learned to look at what’s covered and understand how that coverage pushes certain agendas.
If the news is covering a protest then that will be used to either push an agenda or divide society (currently happening in a big way).
Protests that actually threaten the state will not be covered (various French ones, truckers, etc)

The main point the “great taking” is making is that if you have stocks and bonds in brokerage accounts you don’t actually own them, nor do the brokerage firms.
It’s all been obfuscated in legalese. So yes, they basically are a scam. If we have a true systemic financial collapse everyone will find out the hard way

In related news, I’m currently executing the will of a loved one and it’s a mess..
Beyond just the family drama of it, the brokerage firms where they had IRA’s and personal investment accounts are making the process quite onerous and tedious- so fiat.
So if you plan on dying and have investment accounts I suggest you name a beneficiary, cause getting them to transfer funds to the estate has been a royal PITA (lookin at you Ally and Profunds). I know we all hate vanguard and blackrock but vanguard was actually super easy comparatively.
Lastly- if you have even one asset make sure you have a will. Don’t leave it up to the government.
And if you have kids- don’t put off making a guardian list, etc

Yea that eclipse was pretty wild.
We live in a city and everything went totally silent except for cheers when the clouds parted and you could see it clearly. The light went down to feeling about 20 minutes away from total nighttime darkness. All of our solar lights came on and the kids went to get their headlamps lol

My dad worked on nuclear subs and is 10 years into retirement- granted that was only for a few years during Vietnam.

Hey it’s doable even in a city (which is where we are). Also I have a friend with no yard that keeps hives at the local organic farms.
Where there’s a will there’s a way!

My wife caught a swarm of bees this morning at the local rodeo.
They were talking about spraying them with raid to kill them but luckily one of the staff told them not to and called her up..
Our kids got to put on suits for the first time so they could see her transferring them to a new hive up close. They were quite stoked.
Hopefully the bees like their new home and stick around. We need all the pollinators we can get!

Most definitely. Repeatedly asking restaurants what they’re using- and not ordering the suspect items is the only way they’ll change (or just walking out altogether)

A buddy who oversees multiple restaurants just did his first water fast on my recommendation.
He’s now realizing he can’t eat the food from his restaurants since it’s all canola and low quality ingredients.
Sadly it will take people’s health failing before more will wake up to the state of our food system

It ain’t the prettiest part of our homestead but this chicken run brings me so much joy.
It’s about 12-16 inches deep of weeds, leaves, prunings, biochar, and veggie scraps that the chickens eat and are entertained by all day long.
This area used to flood from neighboring properties upstream but now the run soaks it all up.
We get about 25 gallons of sifted compost from each 5 ft/sq or so

Youngest son helped my wife make a batch of lemon/garlic/dill sauerkraut with the first round of cabbage from our garden.
