Somber and emotional morning in Hiroshima, Japan that unlocked the door to a very powerful conversation with my son.
The emotion, fear and gravity of a situation where we’ve always lived in a world where horrific things happen in order to divide and control people had him convinced that there was no way out….and that it would happen again. Because that must be a part of us and we wouldn’t change. We then talked about how it is happening right now in parts of the world with most people turning a blind eye or making it stronger by believing that there was a side to win inside a system that relied on manipulation, coercion and control for its survival.
As I brought up how #bitcoin is imposing the opposite system - one of truth, hope and abundance, and inscribing the best of us into a protocol that changed the system we have always known - he pushed back - not believing that “we” could or would change fast enough to avoid the worst.
I asked him: What about you? Where is your energy going? Is your fear of what others will do keeping you from realizing what you can do?
With that……he saw that we were each the change. The light in the darkness. And that no one had the power to take that from us. That every mind changed contributed to more minds changing and further understanding that we’re never going back.
Yes - the system change will be chaotic, Yes - there will be many things keeping you in a perpetual state of fear to keep you locked in.
Yes - There is a high probability that the world goes to war again.
But how can you contribute to the world you want to see?
Hope > fear
Love > hate
Freedom > control
Abundance > scarcity

Makes me wonder if these old legacy wallets written from scratch on custom scripts such as Blockstream or Unchained will get beaten out by new competitors using stuff like BDK and Rust Bitcoin. Those newer wallets can safely move so much faster and add so much more functionality while these old legacy wallets feel old af and super clunky. Wild with how many people Unchained employs and how long they’ve been around that they only in 2025 enabled Segwit.

A lot of folks are praising jj because "git is hard and jj is simple". I'm coming from a different perspective. I've mastered git (I'm the one who gets pinged to do reflog surgery, fix broken rebases, remove credentials from repos, track down why a repo ballooned in size, bisect to find bugs, fix broken hooks, etc.).
You should use jj because it's the better tool with a better mental model.... Also, because it's simple 🤣

I just listened to the latest @nprofile…jn9u with @nprofile…xafw and @nprofile…f670 and was pleased to hear they covered both the Block (C=) routing revenue as well as our new Rails (amboss.tech/rails) service at @nprofile…jzc3.
@nprofile…f670 pointed out (correctly IMO) that the revenue that Block is generating from their node is likely not reproducible by most node operators, deviating from the implications that @nprofile…anm0 was making. C= has distinct advantages through withdrawal volume and payment data insights.
@nprofile…xafw made some excellent points too, which might have been overlooked regarding where the "yield" comes from. First, there are two sources of revenue: channel leasing and payment routing. Calling it "transaction fees" loses a lot of nuance when it comes to how decentralized the payment infrastructure is and how it is created (which are the most beautiful parts IMO).
Additionally, Marty generalized the source of yield as the "liquidity locked" which is more accurate than most interpretations, where most expect that the "yield" comes from the Bitcoin deposited (it doesn't, but that's an essential ingredient). The routing revenue comes from the ability to send AND RECEIVE payments. The ability to receive is provided by the network connections and should not be overlooked. The total liquidity locked (or the node Capacity) is actually a more accurate denominator when calculating yields to reflect the sum of the balance held and the Bitcoin connections to it (aka the inbound liquidity).
As for Rails, our new @nprofile…jzc3 yield service, we tried to capture some key motivations for bitcoiners: get more Bitcoin, keep self-custody, and support the Bitcoin network. I think we succeeded. Even if our customers didn't earn anything from Rails, I think we'd still get sign-ups, such is the desire to support Bitcoin ❤️. That's all theoretical though because Rails customers ARE earning bitcoin because they provide a valuable service: the ability to settle payments immediately, inexpensively, and with better privacy.
Providing liquidity within the lightning network is not as straightforward as a simply depositing Bitcoin and earning money (but we made it appear that way with Rails since that's what people expect). Instead, the AI system that we created (not an LLM btw; it uses reinforcement learning and graph neutral networks) is allocating Bitcoin to increase network payment reliability, ensuring decentralized nodes can both receive and send larger payments.
The task that Rails performs will never end because the Lightning Network is dynamic. Lightning is in hyper growth mode as Bitcoin is adopted as a medium of exchange which is a layer of dynamism on top of a dynamic economy.
Consequently, because Bitcoin is scarce, lightning is dynamic, and providing infrastructure is not free, routing revenue will not be a race to the bottom even if adding bitcoin to the lightning network is made easy.

For sure, it would be possible. They would just need to be encrypted. Not sure what client would be ideal for it at this time, though.
The vast majority of note kinds are designed to be public, and therefore are not encrypted. The main exception are DMs, so that might be the route to go. DMs can't be edited, though, so each revision would be a separate DM, and it would get out of hand pretty quickly.
LLMs are like the ultimate tool of ancaps who don't give a shit about optics, because it can tell us how to phrase shit in a way that normies will actually listen to us.

I sold my Strategy option so I can do more long term stuff and incur less tax next year vs my expected short term capital gains tax if I held onto the option until it got huge. I want to make more bitcoin, but I need to earn it in a tax efficient way, preferably 0 tax. a lexicon is a form of compression in itself, most compression algorithms contain a lexicon of repeating symbols but it's a thing that needs to be shared between participants on a consistent and timely basis
a fixed lexicon is less flexible but potentially more compact
also, if you use a variable integer length scheme so you have 8 bits cipher, and mark the end of a value with the 8th bit being on, you get 128 ciphers per 8 bits and 2^14 gives you 16384 ciphers and if you order your lexicon so the most frequent words are lower numbers, most of the time it will be 1 and 2 bytes for like 95% of messages, and that last 5% you need 24 bits.
this is a subject that is very dear to my heart and i have even written a novel scheme for variable integers that can be encoded and decoded over a stream process without forward scanning or going backwards to clarify what a message is.
this encoding is a trinary code though, so making a variable integer encoding with it would be a different procedure because with binary you just use the 8th bit as a continue/end flag (so each segment has a zero or one at the 8th bit except to mark the end of a cipher.
i would have to think about it a bit to convert this varint style to a trinary encoding, you could even just have a third state (like the black or the full bright) indicates the end of each cipher, this is the simplest form of compression that exists for general encoding, but instead you could change it up so you segment your atomic values, a trinary is based on 3, probably you could join them into groups of 3 and then you get 27, so then for this encoding you could have a simple all lower case and the all-three-in-bright would represent the space, and use telegraphy words like "stop"
it just occurs to me that morse code is almost exactly this, it's a binary code, with 3 bits per unit.
anyway, haha. the real thing is how do you such an encoding scheme, whether you have a lexicon, or whether you have a protocol for appending entries to a lexicon, and then you have single letter codes, and then if the sign of that is missing, you mean a lexicon entry, but you have a problem of consistency issue in that messages can become indecipherable if all participants don't have all of the lexicon.

Caffeine dependency?
