I did retest and it was working. This would be my first time working in mongo + go together. I primarily work in python and relational databases but have a lot of exposure to go at work reading other teams code. Definitely looking to start working more in it especially for network + server side projects.

I think that's probably the more sensible solution. I am going to need to do a considerable about of refactoring to make that work on my end though. I could see benefits to both but think packaging it with the relay would be a much better UX.

That I'm not quite sure of, I am only seeing one PID using a live process monitoring tool. I'm not explicitly using multiprocessing either, I'm using asyncio gather tasks to execute a couple hundred websocket connections in short succession. I fully expect the spike in memory just don't understand why it isn't releasing after the queries finish. I was under the impression that these would just create different threads unless calling a process pool executor.

Made some more progress in the memory leak investigation for the metadata updater. Apparently the process below is the culprit:
python3.12 -c from multiprocessing.spawn import spawn_main; spawn_main(tracker_fd=14, pipe_handle=16) --multiprocessing-fork
I fully expect that process to use a lot of memory while the script is running but it holds onto it after the run has finished. Oddly enough, the same exact script returns to sane memory levels immediately after runs when instrumented with a continuous profile.
Any Python folks out there have any ideas why this process won't let go of the memory if it isn't profiled? I've tried manual garbage collection in the script but it doesn't affect this at all.

Too little memory and my service had a memory leak problem. Drastically increased the memory for the server and suddenly memory garbage collection is working beautifully.

I had added a profiler to the application and it crashed the whole server due to OOM error

Appreciate you trying. It’s a dev instance so I took it back down to resize my server. It should be stable again by morning. I’m having some memory issues once enabling that because it’s running as a container on a relay instance so I had to up the memory a bit. The self hosted build is stable though and only takes a few minutes to stand up. But I’ll update once the public dev instance is back up regardless.

Hmmm don't know much about that, never used it. I wrote this zap server below, and actively work on it if you're ever interested in trying. I need to figure out how the different clients are pulling this info and what they do with the zap receipt

What Kind of zap server are you using?
I can see I am sending zap receipts to some relays but have also timed out checking for the invoice on a few prob need to be a bit more generous with the timeout.
FWIW, this isn't working on damus or primal for my lnurl either, not sure how it is implemented differently there.

I don't know what's going on, it is working in certain clients. I am getting the sats to my node and can see all successful logs on my zap server but certain clients either can't generate an invoice though working fine on nostrudel.

I'm still weighing the merits of a request/response based approach (which this is) vs a single replace able event type. I will put this up for discussion in that thread soon though.

That is a good idea, I was managing a metadata updater tool via DM and it was working great but haven't worked on it in a while or pushed up that branch. I guess I could still construct the DMs in a GUI client with buttons but like the idea of any client being able to do that.

One off commands for now, Its basically just a single event kind with tags added to perform the moderation. I have seen discussion of replaceable metadata document which might be a better approach and would probably have a better chance of being adopted.
I'm not sure what the best way to go about this is yet, this was admittedly a fire from the hip approach to just experiment and would put it out there for discussion.

I've been experimenting with relay administration using notes sent from a GUI client, specifically leveraging my own kind 42021 note (note spec to follow). I’ve developed a basic proof of concept that allows Nostr relay operators (or other implementations if they eventually support this kind) to:
- Ban or allow pubkeys and kinds from posting to your relay.
- Delete stored events from a specific pubkey.
-View the allow list for pubkeys and kinds.
All of this can be done without the need to SSH into the server or store private keys on your relay or computer. This is just a test case—there are already operators managing relays through notes, but there isn’t a standard relay admin API yet. There’s also ongoing discussion about whether this approach is the right one or if relay operators should instead use a web client for management.
I welcome any feedback or criticism of this approach and greatly appreciate anyone willing to test it out!

I'm working on something like this now, still ironing out some kinks. Its basically a large multi region docker swarm with each region having a few local application services and a read replica (still global write). Trusted relay operators can join the swarm and manage an instance for their region. Uses patroni to manage db failover but that is the part im still working on.
Would be interested to hear more about the db schema you're working on. Mine right now is basically a just a giant event table. indexing certainly helps, but there's a lot of room for improvement.
