I'm with you. My 3 year old helps my wife chop potatoes and other vegetables. He's very careful, and he loves to help. The 5 year old once made hot chocolate on the stove by himself. They both frequently commandeer my shears and loppers.

The pastor of a church I attended back in PA once gave a sermon illustration of teaching a toddler "no, hot" when they're near a stove, but it being ridiculous if that toddler, grown and living in a shared apartment, is still fearful of the stove and keeps their roommate from using it with a warning of "no, hot." As we grow in knowledge and understanding, we can understand concepts better, "no, hot" goes from being "because dad said so" to "I need to use this heat source responsibly so I don't hurt myself or start a fire in my apartment." Seems applicable, my mind went there anyway.

I think this is a false dichotomy. If you do costly things for the betterment of mankind without profit, you will run out of resources to continue doing those things. Profit allows for continued effort, maintenance and improvement of methods and/or infrastructure. If a farmer gives away his grain, keeping back enough for next year's crop, but a drought or late freeze or intense flood kills the next crop, how is he to plant his field the third year? That's excluding any other inputs like paid labor, equipment upkeep, fuel, compost, etc. If he sold the grain for a profit, he can afford his inputs and be able to buy more seed grain for the third year.

I'm getting the hang of griddle eggs. I cracked them all into a large bowl and poured them as one unit. The white runs got pushed back toward the mass. I then cut them into individual eggs and flipped them to finish cooking. No touching grass for me this morning. The farmer plowed in a few dozen dump trucks of turkey excrata yesterday so everything outside has a coating of feces dust and my house smells like a poultry barn. I'm thankful for the fog and the dew, hopefully they help the dust settle and the smell subsides. #isthisreallyfarming
