I am not ignoring the challenges of running the lightning node, I am simply saying we shouldn't outright deny that path to people who decide to take on the extra complexity for true self custody.
I also believe we can make this path more attractive with more development and more engineering effort.
ecash can't really be a true p2p electronic payment option because at the end of the day you still need lightning to verify if its a real payment, unless you want to reintroduce chargebacks and all those nasty things.
At the very best it just masks the issue.

You're absolutely correct there. The question you asked was "Would you switch Anon?" So I was answering from my own perspective. I would not, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be useful for those who won't or can't run their own home server.

The power of protocols, for sure! Build an app that "speaks the same language" as the server that has the data, and your users can easily connect your app with their data, secured with their private key.
Not sure I would want to tie something like this to my Nostr keys, though. Or at least not to the same key I use for social media clients. We've seen already that keys can easily end up compromised, and if using this with encrypted file storage, a compromised private key would mean anyone who got access to it would also have access to your encrypted files.
Yes, that would make it less convenient, but it also depends on what types of files you are storing and how destructive to your life it would be if they were accessible by a malicious actor.

I'll be in the basement today transferring food from our second dead freezer into our new freezer. One positive thing - last night I was able to tell my wife (truthfully) that we needed to eat the ice cream (because it started to melt)! Man did it feel good when she didn't give me "the look" when I said that! 😁

I think #Bitcoin, #Nostr, and similar technologies are the best way to spread freedom at this point. I think we should have destroyed Iran militarily years ago, but we didn't. Frankly, the CIA boys and gang in the US aren't bastions of freedom either. I'm sure many problems started there, but not all (particularly in the middle east). If Iranians truly want peace and freedom, it's better to encourage them to strip power from those who don't. I think every nation should do that. War really sucks. I'm not opposed to it in every case, but I think at least offering a total reset could be valuable. The problem is that there are some people (relatively few) who don't want a fresh start. They don't want to give up power. I don't think anything will change until those people are removed.

By the way, unrelated to all of the above, but I think that I found a bug wirh nak relay + nak bunker when signing events with nak itself. It may not be related to the Amber problem (red herring). But I managed to make nak fail to sign events just like it does with Amber. The client sends a signature request and then hangs waiting for the bunker. Meanwhile the bunker tries to answer with a signed event and logs an error saying that the client wasn't listening on the other side. I'll write down the full list of commants to see if you can reproduce it tomorrow, I'll also dig more in the code to see if I can figure out the underlying reason (it may be because my network is IPv6 only. I failed to consider this before).

Having a quick glance at this, it looks like the perfect counterpart to what @nprofile…a3yk is doing above, as Keyoxide also uses the OPENPGP4FPR scheme to validate what on their side will be the proof (and on Nostr’s side will be the proof). The difference is that with what I'm proposing above, you don't need to include the full PGP key or signed proof in the `i` field, just a OPENPGP4FPR format URL with the fingerprint and a link to where the key can be downloaded (i.e., a direct link to an .asc file, a PGP key server, or an email address from a domain with a working WKD).
That way, you solve the “PGP keys can be big” problem and get better proof, as it’ll be embedded in the key itself (and can easily be "revoked" by simply deleting the notation from the key. Even if you lost access to your Nostr key).
And of course, you can generalise this to include other certificates linked via notations as well. For example, here’s my Keyoxide profile:

I’m not seeing how this is an intentionally malicious attack against Nostr, but it is definitely cause for concern that one might choose to delete an image from the source, such as nostr.build, but the cached version stays live.

For now, it expects a kind 1 note as proof for Keyoxide's claim. But since the notation contains a NIP-21 URI, it could evolve to support npub, nprofile, etc., retrieve the PGP fingerprint from the respective `i` tag in the user's kind 0 event, and validate pubkey ownership from Keyoxide's perspective.
On Nostr, NIP-39-enabled clients can read the PGP fingerprint from the `i` tag, retrieve the key itself from keys.openpgp.org or any other keyserver/WKD indicated by the `i` tag, extract notation data and validate the NIP-39 claim.

Agreed. For example, we have a gazillion reposts and shares adding the asknostr tag around here. That’s interesting, and I’m curious to see how well community self-moderation of tags, à la Stack Exchange, will work in the context of general social media.
This might be a point of contention, but in the underbelly of the beast, I also like the idea of DHT + pkarr. For now this is a somewhat uninformed opinion like my earlier take on IPFS. But assuming it works, it sounds great. Not necessarily as a be-all and end-all solution to every distributed social media problem, but I can certainly see use cases where we need aggregators and wonky bootstrapping logic which could benefit from DHT-based alternatives.

The Pubky app has one thing that at least looks interesting: this tagging stuff with words.
It's the only useful feature of NIP-32 that is underexplored on Nostr.
Thinking about it's very similar to what people have been doing with emoji reactions here and in many other apps, except for the fact that emoji reactions are stupid, undecipherable and useless and emojis are one of the lamest inventions of the internet.
Also self-tagging posts is stupid, it's much better to allow yourself or anyone else to add tags after the fact instead of requiring the post creator to somehow figure out the best tags forever for their post at creation time.
But, again, even with NIP-32 tagging of posts we still cannot do "trending tags" or "hashtag feeds" without relying on relay native filtering capabilities, otherwise it will always be a slugfest.

I’ve talked about the platform with folks in my Discord group, but many of them still feel that monetization here isn’t worth it. And I get it — most of them are making around $1000 a week on X.

Let me put a more rational answer here.
Some time ago, a woman in Iran was stoned for not wearing a head dress. People in the West think that is how Iran rolls. The truth is many women don't wear anything on their heads, and it was news only because it was wildly out of the ordinary. But the West uses shit like that to make you think Iran is bad.
Don't confuse what some people in Iran say about wiping Israel off the map or the US Great Satan... with what the diplomatic official positions of Iran are. There are always crazy people saying extreme things, and they don't represent Iran. Iran has always been very logical and reasonable in it's diplomatic actions and foreign relations. They only recently threatened to attack American bases IF America attacked them. I'm not aware of any other threats against the US from Iran (other than the half-cocked statements of individuals which are all over the map, you must understand).
Also people think Iran wants to wipe out the Jews. But there are more than 9,000 jews living peacefully in Iran and they are not only respected, they have a say in government.
Iran and it's proxies have clearly expressed why Israel has been attacked by it's proxies for decades now. and that is in support of autonomy for the Palestinians. And they have proven they aren't lying. Every time there is a ceasefire with Hamas, all the proxies of Iran stop too. Everytime the ceasefire breaks, the proxies resume. They are enacting a cost to Israel's genocide of Palestinians so that hopefully Israel stops doing it. They haven't stopped, they are instead choosing to pay the cost.
Now you can technically call that terrorism. That is correct. Using violence or threats of it to try to change a government's policy is the definition of terrorism. But then you must admit that Israel and the US are using terrorism as much or more than Iran's proxies are.
Now you might think I'm anti-semetic. But almost all the people I listen to on social media (X, YouTube) are Jews. Go figure. There is quite a logical difference between being against the policies and actions of the state of Israel as lead by Netanyahu and his Likud party, and hating on Jewish people.
That being said, all believers in God are suspect to me. Jews, Christians, Muslims, I find them all dangerous due to the fact that they show themselves highly deluded. Delusions can make people do illogical things, and illogical people are unpredictable. That makes them dangerous.
There are miserable people everywhere, and the people around me are unemployed and confused.
