I have song Take Me To Church by Hozier in my head. Singing it while I am getting dressed for the day. Walk into the living room and my nephew is watching a YouTube channel by some dude called JackSucksAtStuff. The guy is playing this game where you pair up words to create other words. I started to read all the words. Literally there were twenty angels pieces and one god piece.

I love Alby and I think their browser extension in the single most awesome and useful Lightning thing ever created. Having said that, I do think having to pay to be non-custodial (whether via Alby cloud service or your own node), is a total non-starter for 95% of users, and is of course a large reason why lightning has struggled in general.
Additionally, the thing that lightning is best at currently is SMALL payments, which honestly most people don't need non-custodial when it is for small amounts.
Non-custodial is for my cold wallet. I don't mind having some sums in custodial things, so long as they are very convenient and cheap to use.
I'd have happily paid a 500-1000 sats every month to use alby custodially, and I hope they considered that, but guessing it's not possible from a legal standpoint in many jurisdictions.

The amount of people, and even bitcoiners, who prefer ETFs or other custodian products like BitGo and Coinbase should give us a hint on why many people might not like nostr.
We probably should have more services offering custodial nsec. Or course you don't have to use them, but I'm guessing normies do want to be able to "reset their password" if needed.

Bitcoin didn't change my life financially because I lost a lot of coins on bitmex in 2017. I don't regret any payments I did in 2015-16. However, it changed my life in a different way that no amount of money can do.
I was a noob user trying to learn joinmarket with the electrum plugin. A few years later, I could write my own coinjoin implementation and an electrum plugin for it.

While I do agree seed oils are bad, they're not causing obesity.
Obesity is caused by overeating, ridiculous portions sizes and sugar drinks
In short, too many calories
Secondary is this idea that fat and meat is bad, but eating meat is the best way to actually feel full and satiated. Without them you end up stuffing yourself with empty carbs (which is sugar) and never feel satisfied.
But I am preaching to the choir here, its actually very rare to find an obese bitcoiner.
And if you are going to hit something without tools at least use the strongest bits of the body, bone.

TikTok is much better if you use it in a country where they haven’t enabled the crazy home shopping network functionality. This is kind of like Amazon where they found a business model that makes so much money they can’t stop as it destroys the central value proposition of their platform.

I’ve seen people here say they’d like a Nostr app like TikTok for video. I’ve even thought that at times. Throughout the election season, I spent a fair amount of time browsing other social media apps, including Tiktok. I hadn’t used it in a couple years and I hate it now compared to what it used to be. It is essentially this generation’s “Home Shopping Network.” Nothing but constant ads, even from people who “aren’t advertising.” This isn’t really surprising, I guess, but it’s a horrendous user experience. Whatever improvements can be made on nostr for video publishing and consumption, PLEASE don’t make it into another TikTok. 😩

We recently installed CoreLightning to tryout Bolt12 but when I generate an offer and try to pay from @npub1ex7…vyt9 , I get an error that a route couldn’t be found. But if I generate a lightning invoice request form the CoreLightning node, I can pay that and invoice. I’m confused how one could work and the other will not.

关于解决“四人帮”问题的情况
１９７６年９月９日凌晨，毛主席逝世了。
９月１１日，华国锋借口身体不好，要到医院去捡查。离开治丧的地方给李先念打电话，说：“我到你那里，只谈五分钟。”华国锋到李先念的家，一进门就很紧张地说：“我可能已被跟踪，不能多停留，说几句话就走。现在‘四人帮’问题已到了 不解决不行的时侯了。如果不抓紧解决，就要亡党、亡国、亡头。请你速找叶帅商量此事。”华国锋说完就匆匆离去。
从这里看出，华国锋与李先念谈话之前，叶帅可能与华国锋谈过解决“四人帮”的问题。
在治丧期间，我记得大约是十几号，华国锋、李先念、陈锡联、纪登奎和我，在国务院后边的会议室里议论过解决“四人帮”的问题。当时，华国锋对我们说：“毛主席提出的‘四人帮’的问题，怎么解决？”我记得纪登奎说，对这些人恐怕还是要区别对待。我们当时都没有说什么，没有再往下深谈。我想当时华国锋是在了解我们的态度，准备做粉粹“四人帮”的工作。后来，华国锋告诉我，他当时已经下了解决“四人帮”问题的决心了。
９月２６日或２７日的晚上，华国锋约李先念和我谈话，交换对解决“四人帮”问题的意见。
我表态支持华国锋的意见和所下的决心，并说解决的办法无非两种，一是抓起来，二是召开中央政治局会议用投票的办法解除他们担任的职务。我偏重主张用开会的办法来解决，说我们会有多数同志的支持，反正他们最多只有四张半的票。这个半票是指跟着“四人帮”跑的吴桂贤，吴当时是政治局侯补委员，没有表决权。在政治局投票，我们是绝对多数，过去他们假借毛主席的名义压我们，现在他们没有这个条件了。
李先念插话说：你知道赫鲁晓夫是怎么上台的吗？
我说：当然知道......（指赫鲁晓夫如何利用中央全会的多数，而推翻了马林科夫、莫洛托夫等大多数苏共中央主席团（中央常委）委员将其部长会议主席撤职的决定，反而将马林科夫等打成了反党集团之事）
随后，我们分析了当时党中央委员会成员的情况。我们认识到：在政治局开会投票解决“四人帮”的问题，我们有把握；但在中央委员会投票解决“四人帮”，我们没有把握。“十大”选举中央委员时，“四人帮”利用他们手中的权力，把许多属于他们帮派的人和造反派头头塞进了中央委员会，如果召开中央委员会，在会上投票解决“四人帮”的问题是要冒风险的，采取隔离审查的办法才是上策。
我们一直讨论到早晨五点，认识一致了。
１０月４日下午，我又被华国锋找到他的住处。我们再一次全面捡查、研究了准备工作是否就绪，解决问题的环节是否完善的问题。下午五点多，我回家了。可是刚刚到家，华国锋又来了电话，要我马上到他那里，我急忙赶过去，汪东兴也在华国锋家里。
我们商定：
一、按华国锋、叶剑英、汪东兴已议定的方案，抓“四人帮”由汪东兴负责；
二、对迟群、谢静宜、金祖敏等人的隔离审查，由我与卫戌区吴忠负责；
三、中南海内如出现了意料不到的问题，由我组织卫戌区部队支援；
四、由北京卫戌区负责对人民日报社、新华社、广播电台、中央机关与清华、北大的戒备。
１０月６日，我与市委第二书记倪志福、常务书记丁国钰、卫戌区司令吴忠一起守在电话机旁。不到九点钟，汪东兴来电话说一切顺利。
当晚１０点多，中央政治局在玉泉山叶剑英的住地召开了紧急会议，一是选取举华国锋为党中央主席，二是讨论通过中央１６号文件，即向全党全军全国通报中央对“四人帮”采取隔离审查与推选了华国锋为中央主席的决定。

毛泽东的“政治三Ｐ”
文化大革命多少和欧洲现代民族国家出现前夕的“国王——人民的联盟”相似，有其“三部曲”：（一）人民强烈不满并经常反抗贵族的横行霸道；（二）国王利用人民的不满来打击贵族，同盟形成；（三）贵族收敛了凶焰，人民运动逐渐具有独立的倾向，国王开始担忧人民的力量，于是联合残存的贵 族镇压了人民运动。
如果没有人民的不满与反抗作前提，国王又怎么能利用人民呢？所以，后文革 时代（邓小平改革期间）的御用文人，一味强调“毛泽东一手发动了文革”，这种 说法其实是害怕承认自己“十七年压迫人民的罪孽”。汉人社会的可悲在于：会两 千年没有贵族传统了。所以文化大革命的性质就变成了：僭主（毛泽东）与人民的 暂时联盟，以反对共同的敌人——“叫花子出身的暴发户”。按当时术语，这些叫 花子出身的暴发户叫做“走资本主义道路的当权派”甚至“党内资产阶级”。由于 １９１１—１９６５年之间中国已经经历了绵延不断的革命，所以中国并没有欧洲 式的“国王”、“贵族”、“第三等级”，而只有“僭主”、“走资派”、“群众 ”在有其实而无其名的闹剧中尽情表演。
这就是我们发现的“毛泽东的”政治三Ｐ“（3 Persons):1、毛本人；２、党的组织；３、革命群众。
这种“一龙二凤”的游戏并不是后现代的发明，而是五四青年们十分热衷的活动。老毛对此当然也不会有丝毫的陌生。所以他一会儿拉群众打党组织，一会儿拉党组织打群众，翻手为云，覆手为雨，性之所致则干脆“截断巫山云雨”。
（一）如果人民（革命群众）没有受到党组织的压迫，造反派的口号“十七年的苦弟兄，联合起来”就无法发挥动员作用（人民如果不怨恨贵族，国王的阴谋煽动就没有着力点）。例如１９７１年林彪事件以后，毛泽东的种种煽动就再也发挥不了任何作用，１９７６年老毛煽动否定周恩来，结果激起了第一次天安门事件。
（二）人民（广大群众）如果不怨恨贵族（毛的干部），国王（毛本人）再想利用他们来攻击政敌也没有机会。这个政治三Ｐ也就无法进行下去。例如，１９６９年以后，毛和走资派重新修好，联合起来把学生流放农村，说明“毛的政治三角游戏”已经暂时宣告结束。造反派被逐出三角游戏，三Ｐ变成了怨偶之间的无性婚姻。
（三）显然，只是因为毛和走资派（分别扮演国王与贵族）之间的共同利益更多，革命群众不过是毛泽东临时玩弄的野花——虽然家花不如野花香，但开起夫妻店的时候，家花却要比野花可靠。因此，镇压革命群众便成为毛的必然选择。
毛泽东的政治三Ｐ虽然相当无聊，但却有一项意外收获：使得文化大革命具有 历史意义的，不是“无产阶级专政条件下的继续革命”的运动幌子，不是毛泽东为 人民的苦难所流下的鳄鱼的眼泪；而是它使民众在历史上第一次动摇了共产主义官 僚体系的铁腕统治。要知道，这在苏联老大哥及其他共产仆从国家那里也是没有先 例的。文革的价值因此不在于文革的自我意识，不在于文革的那些自命不凡的权术 、口号；而在于文革使得中国最终脱离了苏联的政治控制。尽管在思想体系和政治 制度上，中国的独立迄今还只在“行”的层次、没有在“言”的层次完成。
政治制度虽与文化、风气，心理等意识形态颇有关系，但毕竟是直接由文革这 样的社会动静中择要总结而成的。尽管，中国从苏联模式下独立出来的倾向在文化 大革命结束时，还是羞羞答答、半遮半掩的，不敢公开扬弃外来的“主义”，但“ 逆转”已经开始，涡流无法终止。中国终将通过一场资产阶级革命即第三等级的革 命，来建立一个现代宪政国家。而后人会认识到，中国脱离马列主义获得思想和政 治独立的时代，是从文革的劫难开始的——这就是所谓“物极必反”的道理？

为毛检查身体的结果还发现，他患了一种极少有的运动神经元病，大脑延髓和脊髓内 主宰喉、咽、舌、手、腿的神经细胞逐渐变质坏死，身体逐渐麻痹瘫痪。由于喉、咽、舌 功能失调，食物和水会流入气管囤积肺中，引起肺部反覆感染。在最后阶段，不仅无法吞咽，而且无法呼吸。这是不治之症，根据毛现有的病 状，他只能活两年。
医生们依汇报程序报告了毛的大总管汪东兴。汪报告了周恩来。正是在听到这个消息 之后，周的胆子大壮，虽然外表上，他对毛是照常的恭顺。
知道了毛来日无多，再加上周恩来本人也病入膏肓，邓—周—叶联盟行动起来，要让 毛指定邓做周的接班人，把一大批文革中打倒的老干部任命到关键位子上。十二月，周拖 着病体飞往长沙，带着人事安排的名单去见毛。毛对这些老家伙在京城做些什么心知肚明 ，他有留守北京给他通风报信的“四人帮”。江青说她对看到的“咄咄怪事”，感到“触 目惊心”。但是毛没有办法管束邓、周、叶等人，军队在他们手里。“四人帮”对军队毫 无影响力，毛又无法在军中新建一支与邓、周、叶抗衡的力量。他力不从心。
在这样的状况下，毛只能认可周恩来送上的人事名单，特别是任命邓小平为第一副总 理，代行周恩来之职。毛没有完全示弱，他把张春桥提拔为不论在政府还是在军队都仅次 于邓的人物，而且把媒体让“四人帮”牢牢把持，使他能够直接向全国发号施令。
邓、周、叶的策略是先利用张春桥、江青历史上的污点打击他们，把他们搞掉，以架 空毛。十二月二十六日毛八十一岁生日那天，周以严肃的神情对毛讲这两位有“严重政治 历史问题”。毛说他早就知道了，意思是有问题又怎么样？
一向俯首帖耳的周，竟然胆大包天地当面把毛的妻子和亲信打成敌人。毛知道他面临一番恶战，他和“四人帮”一边，同邓、周、叶以及重新任职的老干部对阵。
一九七五年六月，军队对毛进行了一次示威。那是贺龙元帅去世六周年纪念日。贺龙 因为不幸听见了苏联国防部长马利诺夫斯基说要“搞掉毛”的话，成为毛疑心的焦点，惨 死在监管中。军方决定为贺龙举行“骨灰安放仪式”。毛无法阻止，只能规定“不治丧， 不致悼词，不献花圈，不报导，不宣传”。在军方支持下，贺龙长女给毛写信，指出贺龙 一案牵连了一大批军队的人，对贺龙后事的这种做法在军队行不通。毛只好答应安放仪式 怎么搞由周恩来安排，但强调一点：“不登报”。
一九七五年十一月，他(毛)要邓主持做一个肯定文革的决议，等于要邓自己把自己限制起来。
邓拒绝做这个决议，说：“由我主持写这个决议不适宜，我是桃花源中人，‘不知有汉，无论魏晋。’”他是当着一百三十名高级干部的面说这番话的，态度强硬。毛只好放
弃做决议一事。但他同时也决心再次打倒邓小平。
周恩来、叶剑英都曾劝邓不要操之过急，等毛死了再说。但是邓不愿意等，他估计他可以逼毛让步。邓看到的是毛的极度衰弱，但他见不到的是，在这衰朽的躯壳下，毛保持着不可摧毁的意志和惯有的老谋深算。
一九七六年一月八日，七十八岁的周恩来去世。邓的主要盟友一死，毛马上行动，把 邓的职务实质上解除，将他软禁在家，在全国搞“批邓”。对叶剑英，毛也同时下手，以 “生病”为名拿掉了他的军职。毛指定“老实”不起眼的华国锋接替周恩来，同样不知名 的陈锡联代换叶剑英。毛用他们而不用“四人帮”是因为“四人帮”太不得人心，毛希望 尽量减小对他决策的阻力。
四月初，火山终于在清明扫墓时分爆发。人群汇集在天安门广场，用花圈与诗歌悼念周恩来，声讨文化大革命。同样闻所未闻的是，人群捣毁了企图清场的警车，放火烧了“四人帮”组织的民兵指挥部。这场暴动，就发生在离中南海咫尺之遥的地方。
毛政权用血腥手段恢复了天安门广场的“秩序”。江青喝茅台以资庆祝，毛批示：“士气大振，好，好，好。”镇压在全国进行，不过已是强弩之末。
虽然邓小平并不是天安门抗议活动的后台，可是广场四周松树上挂的许多与“小平”同音的小瓶子，叮叮当当地响着人群对他的拥戴。毛害怕邓同人民结合起来，下令把邓从
软禁的家中抓走，关在北京的另一个地方。
毛没有用残酷的方式来对付邓，相反地，他发话要保护邓。这并不是因为毛对邓念念不舍，他是怕邓在军队的追随者愤而采取激烈措施，威胁到自己的权力和生命。军队实际上仍在叶剑英的掌握中。叶在西山住地，每天接见川流不息的军队将领，直接针对毛的话，说他没有病，“谁也休想赶我走”。在朋友中间，叶对毛的称呼已不再是尊称“主席”，而是“拿摩温”，英文number one（“一号人物”）的音译。虽无贬义，也是不恭。
在叶的住处，将帅们半公开地讨论他们应该采取什么行动。外号“胡子”的王震将军对叶说：把“四人帮”“弄起来不就解决问题了吗？”因为怕窃听器，叶打着哑谜，先伸
出右手，握紧拳头，竖起大拇指，向上晃两晃，然后把大拇指倒过来，往下按了按。“胡子”将军猜明白了：大拇指指的是毛，他在世时不宜轻举妄动，等去世以后再说。“胡子”将军找到他从前的下级汪东兴，代表军方嘱咐他要保护好邓小平。
毛清楚西山里出出进进在搞什么名堂，但他在军队新任命的人完全无力抗衡，他本人命在旦夕，无回天之力。他只好听之任之。就在这样焦躁无奈的情绪下，他的心脏病六月初大发作，把他搁在死亡的门口。
毛的病危通知发给了政治局和主要大夫。当时邓的夫人因眼疾住在专给高层——包括被打倒的高层——看病的三○一医院，一位跟她亲近的医生把毛病危的消息告诉了她。这样一个绝密消息马上被透露给主要政敌，标志着毛的铁腕已松弛到何等地步。邓一得知这个消息，就在六月十日给毛写信要求回家，等于是要求释放。
毛不敢拒绝，在月底病情好转时答覆：“可以同意”。邓的归期被延迟了几天，因为朱德元帅在七月六日以九十高龄去世。朱德在文革中受了不少罪，毛怕他的死也像周一样
引起全国抗议浪潮，怕邓卷进里面去。抗议浪潮没有出现，毛才在七月十九日放邓回家。邓在深夜被一辆汽车悄悄接走。
这一次邓只关了三个月。虽然放出来后仍是软禁，毕竟邓是跟一大家子亲人住在一起。毛奈何不了他。

一旦设立权力职位，职位上的人自然会陷入两种“正常思维”:
1.自证价值。
即便不演得很忙，至少也要显得一直有事在做，不是在白领银饷。
2.扩大权力边界。
权力自带灰色福利属性。
权力影响的范围越广，影响越大，权力就越有价值，福利变现的空间就越大。
即便不是为了让手里的权力变得更有价值，避免鸟尽弓藏被迫改变，也是理性选择。
熟悉官僚体系玩法的，自然和自己浸淫多年厌恶却不舍的机制匹配度更高。
太阳底下没有新鲜事，一个太阳照耀下的不同肤色也不会差到哪去。
权奴和官僚体制的腻歪，就是:

初会毛泽东
我的下放在一个秋天清凉的早上突然结束了。当时，我坐在一辆马车的稻草堆上，正摇摇摆摆地向着农地出发。公社的大队长，一个中年汉子，从后面赶上来，气急败坏地说：「快走！你要立即向外交部报到。有车子在等你。快!」
我只能推测，我突然被传召，和当天的庆典有关，因为这天是十月一日 ，是建国十周年，有大型庆祝活动进行。
在城楼上是各个社会主义国家的著名人物：苏联的赫鲁晓夫、北韩的金日成，以及华沙公约国的代表。中国的领导人和众多宾客在天安门塔楼前的平台上互相交换客套话语。

我的任务是，和几个同僚一起，协助我们的领导人和说英语的嘉宾交谈。我要注意不要突出自己，以及避免引生误会或惹出乱子。我在这里的工作是做翻译，不是呆头呆脑的看客。于是我和往常一样，把自己变成一个说洋话的娃娃。我站在中国主人的右面，隔在主人和宾客之间。
就这样，我成为站在毛泽东右面的人。我较毛略高——就中国的标准来说，毛是个高大健壮的人。我有意识地垂下头，以免过份突出。我不知他跟谁在说话，而所说的是什么，现在我都忘记了，大概是无关痛痒的闲话。但当我靠近毛的右耳复述客人的第一句说话时，毛猛地向旁闪开，阴阴地向我瞟了一眼，说：「你声音太大了！」
为了翻译得清楚，我开始的时候确是音量较大。我吸了一口气，把声音降低，侥幸再没有乱子发生。在这一次，以及以后十多年无数次为毛的翻译中，毛都只是当我是一副说话的机器。不能说他是无情的人，只是他对我的存在视而不见，和周恩来的当我是一个人，完全不同。
优雅」，是许多人对毛泽东的形容词。他烟不离手，但却不是疯狂抽烟的人。他动作缓慢，从容自得，有帝王之状。我留意到一些其他的领导人，试图模仿他的表情。他的眼睛经常半眯着，好像静静地想着遥远的事情。他前额非常宽阔，表现得有大智慧。而他的皮肤，对于一个快将七十岁的老人来说，是十分幼滑，唯一例外是他左下颔的那颗著名的痣。正如一个外国作家的描写那样：「和其他人相比，他似乎用不同的材料构造。凡人的情感不能进入他的心中。」

假使美国灯塔熄灭前我们不能跨出宇宙文明这一步。

那很可能以后就不会有往星际旅行方向跨越式的科技创新。
人类文明很可能就会被锁死在地球文明阶段，直到把地球的资源耗尽，文明退步，重回莽荒。
我相信人都差不多，外星人，也差不了多少。
都是哪怕知道怎样对大局最好，依旧会做出对自己当下最有利选择的存在。
因为真正无私的基因，已经因为进化过程中载体的消亡而被淘汰。
现在，人类文明到了被宇宙筛选机制过滤选择的关键时点，我们有这份幸运躲过此劫么？

Actually, I think society would be better off if more people were consuming regular doses of lithium! Although you are right that I wouldn't support treating our water with it. However, if the evidence and scientific consensus supported the use of lithium in the water, I would have to seriously reevaluate my position on it. Because I'm not an expert, and I'm not qualified to contradict the science. I have to rely on the empirical evidence, and relevant subject-matter expert consensus to base my beliefs on.
If the the weight of the evidence, and scientific consensus shows that flouridation is actually more harmful than helpful, and that its use is no longer justifiable, I would defer to the consensus and support ending flouridation. Again, because I'm not an expert, or in a position to declare that the scientific consensus is wrong, I have to go with the current scientific position. But I also understand and accept that not everyone views it the way I do, and I respect anyone who presents their views respectfully, and with reason.

Yeah I have one but anyway luckily where I live in the U.K we don't do a lot of it. Its pretty much just Birmingham and a couple of other cities where its added. Though even and now and then there are suggestions to expand it, so I like to keep up to date on things.
When people migrate from Twitter to.. say... Threads, they are not looking for a new tech stack or a new app. They are looking for a new **community**. There is a fundamental misunderstanding that people care about the apps. No. They care about the communities. And they so happen to be using specific app brands.
Communities make the apps. Not the other way around.

I totally get you.
Setting up Alby Hub was very simple though, and I don't pay anything. I just run it on the same 10 year old machine on which I run my BTC node. It doesn't seem to affect or take up resources significantly and I have one channel that doesn't represent any work (at least until now).
Opening that one channel was excessively expensive since it's just for the zaps here, and it was *not* something I would have done had I known better -- I blame their poor onboarding for it. But I think you're savvy enough to save yourself that type of problem.

Checkout some of the non bitcoin focused podcasts. See how much they are "boosting."
It will put you to shame. That crowd gets it.
You would think that bitcoin nostr would be torch bearer here, but it's not.
I say this with love. But the podcasting people have figured out this lifestyle years ago.
Now, apart from that there is a technical issue that the podcasting people use keysend for lighting and nostr uses a different method. Which is why node running is prevalent in that group.
But the generosity is still orders of magnitude higher over there.
Yeah I suppose if you only relied upon zaps that would be pretty weak sause.
Now with Podcasting 2.0 where the culture actually understands what value means, f you tap into that model and scene and culture I think you'd have a node paid for in no time.
The cost/time associated with running a node is absolutely negligible, though. People act like it's a full-time job. It's not. I spend more time constantly clearing out my email inbox than I do fussing over my node.
As far as risk, custodial services being lower risk is laughable to me.

You can't justify owning your own bank and payment processor on your own computer? You can't make back the equivalent of a couple hundred bucks in zaps over the next 5 years?
