Ok, understand the trade-off, but I think the importance of privacy is often downplayed by Bitcoiners. You said yourself privacy is one of the most important aspects of individual sovereignty.
If you can be forced to comply because government can monitor and trace transactions for 95% of Bitcoin users they can apply any arbitrary law they want. They can simply increase taxes to offset your avodiance of inflation, or just confiscate it completely like they did to BTC Sessions friend after the trucker protests. Great, your money isn't debased, but now it's gone 🤷♂️
Btw I don't consider it a clearcut failure and look forward to privacy improvements on Bitcoin like BOLT 12 - although it looks like LN in general will still have it's own issues that Monero doesn't and vice versa. Trade-offs like you said.

毛泽东爱游泳，尤喜与女同志同泳。江青不会游泳，于是满朝文武的官太太，凡是善泳、长得不错又被毛泽东看中的，陪主席游泳是一项任务，她们也引以为荣，毛主席随召随到。
陪过毛泽东在浴池旁的高官夫人，有的不一定会游泳，不过毛泽东有这么个习惯，他穿着泳 衣，高官的夫人围着他，其中我随便举几个人。
曾志是毛的泳池伴侣，她是文革期间一度成为第四号人物陶铸的夫人，曾志和毛泽东早于北伐前在广州就已认识，算是老朋友，所以陶铸虽被打倒，曾志没有，后来一度还当过中央组织部副部长。曾志的回忆录写到，在江西时代她曾与毛泽东、贺子珍三人同床。贺子珍曾对曾志说：“毛委员喜欢你比我多啊！”
朱仲丽也是毛的泳池伴侣，她是王稼祥的夫人。我初见朱仲丽时，她还没有和王稼祥结婚。当时我有个朋友叫林萍，一度是边区医院的化验师。有一天她指着一位娇小玲珑的大夫对我说：“她叫朱慧，蓝苹的好朋友。”蓝苹就是日后的江青，朱慧就是日后的朱仲丽。朱仲丽常对人说“仲丽”二字是毛泽东替她起的。毛说：“仲丽者，人中丽人也。”
朱仲丽写有回忆录，对于她的丈夫王稼祥文革惨死，着墨不多。十之八九都是写她与毛泽东的，她坦言她一生最崇拜和最爱的是毛泽东。
王光美是刘少奇夫人，同时是毛泽东的亲密泳友。她的泳装很时髦，江青一见王光美的三点装，就骂“狐狸精”。文革期间，周恩来曾承江青的旨意批示将王光美枪毙，是毛泽东保住她的。
五六十年代《人民道报》上刊有很多毛与高官夫人池边照片，当时还是相当有透明度的。

“大跃进”从1958年初发动，至1961年1月中共八届九中全会宣布停止，历时三年。
“大跃进”的实际效果是“大破坏、大滑坡、大倒退”。从1960年第一季度起，国民经济就每况愈下。
“这一切所组成的痛苦和灾难，都落在中国六 亿老百姓身上。饥饿、营养严重不良，加上连年艰苦紧张的劳动，以及恶劣的政治环境，人民出现大量的非正常死亡。”
“据统计，1959年—1961年三年间，全国非正常死亡人数达四千万人。”
“八年抗战期间，全中国死亡人数是3500万人。第二次世界大战期间，在苏德战争中，苏联的死亡人数2千万。三年灾难比战争还要残酷。这是中国几千年历史上最大规模的、死亡人数最多的“天灾人祸”，也是世界上数一数二的“天灾人祸”。
“毛泽东的错误给中国人民带来的祸害，超过了古今中外任何一个朝代的帝王将相”
“据另一项估算，因为三年‘大跃进’，中国国民经济损失达1200亿元。而第一个五年计划的基本建设投资才550亿元。‘大跃进’损失了两个五年计划的资金。”
“而且，后来还用了五年时间调整国民经济，才使之恢复到‘大跃进’前1957年的水平。中国经济发展走了一个大大的弯路，浪费了八年宝贵的时间。而恰恰是在这段时间里，一些国家，如日本等，经济与科技得到迅速发展。中国与他们的差距拉大了。这又是一个长时间内弥补不了，从而也无法估算的重大的损失。”

在1958年“大跃进”热潮中，毛泽东是“热源”。下面摘录的便是热昏了头的毛泽东，在那些热昏的日子里所说的“前无古人、后无来者”的热昏的话：

——“现在看来搞十亿人口也不要紧，把地球上的人通通集中到中国来，粮食也够用！将来我们要搞地球委员会，搞地球统一计划，哪里缺粮，我们就送给他！”
——“大概十年左右，可能产品非常丰富，道德非常高尚，我们就可以从吃饭、穿衣、住房子上实行共产主义，城市乡村一律叫公社，不叫工厂。大学、街道都办公社。如鞍钢叫鞍山公社，不叫工厂。”
——“大城市要分散，乡村就是小城市，每个公社都将路修宽一点，可以落飞机。每个省都搞一、二百架飞机，每个公社平均两架，大省自己搞飞机工厂。”
——“公共食堂，吃饭不要钱，就是共产主义。”
——“要考虑取消薪水，恢复供给制。人活着只搞点饭吃，不是和狗搞点屎吃一样吗？不搞点帮助别人，搞点共产主义，有什么意思呢？”
——“过去不少的人认为工业高不可攀，神秘得很，有很大的迷信。我也不懂工业，对工业也是一窍不通。可是，我不相信工业就是高不可攀。我和几个管工业的谈过，开始不懂；过几年，也就懂了，有什么了不起！”
——“赶超英国’，不是十五年，也不是七年，只需要两到三年，两年是可能的。”
——“为五年接近美国，七年超过美国这个目标而奋斗吧！”
——“七亿人口搞七亿吨钢。三年至七年之内建成一个工业大国。设想十年可以搞四亿吨钢……二十亿吨煤，三亿吨石油。”
——“（由于群众的共产主义觉悟大大提高）民法和刑法那一类法律都不需要了。民法刑法那样多条谁记得了？一搞大跃进，就没有时间犯法了。”
编者的话：
毛泽东在经济建设是一个地地道道的门外汉，说一些错话，还可以原谅；但总得有一个“度”，不能信口开河、胡说八道。在政治上，作为一个最高领导人，说话更应该注意分寸，决不能说出什么：“一搞大跃进，就没有时间犯法了。”什么“觉悟大大提高，民法刑法都不需要了。”这一类令人贻笑大方的话。可是在另一场合，毛泽东又说：“阶级斗争要天天讲、月月讲、年年讲”。面临这样一位我国的最高领导人，中国人民不遭受大灾难，才见鬼呢！

毛泽东的战略部署，是用农业的“大跃进”来促进、推动由刘少奇、周恩来等人把持的像“蜗牛一样爬行”的工业。毛泽东曾说：“我现在就是要拿农业来压工业，农业问题解决了，你们工业怎么办？”
工业方面的“大跃进”，是以毛泽东提出的“十五年赶超英国”的口号为纲领的。
6月，毛泽东在一个报告上批示：
“超 过英国，不是十五年，也不是十年，只需要两到三年，两年是有可能的”。
到了9月5日，毛泽东在最高国务会议上提出：明年是基本赶上英国，除造船、汽车、电力这几项外，明年都要超过英国。
赶超的主要项目是钢铁。……按照毛泽东的指示，1958年钢铁产量计划指标，就一而再、再而三地往上调。开始时，周恩来等人还考虑到国民经济全局，计算要生产这么多钢铁，需要增加多少电力、运输、机械设备……。因此，只敢一点点，一、二百万吨地往上加。到了六月份，毛泽东有些不耐烦了，说：去年是五百三，今年可不可以翻一番？为什么不能翻一番？“于是1958年的钢产量便确定为1070万吨，是1957年的一倍；并决定1959年钢产量要达到3千万吨。到1962年则要达到9千万吨以上。（见薄一波《若干重大方针与事件的回顾》）
对于这种工农业一齐“大跃进”的形势，毛泽东感到十分振奋。他说：
“许多事情看来怪得很，要就没有，或者很少；要就很多很多。过去九年粮食增加得很慢，老愁粮食不足；可是今年一年就增加了几千亿斤。今年翻一番。明年还可能翻一番。这样，我们的粮食就多得不得了。钢也是这样，……你看怪不怪。”
为了实现钢产量目标，在8月16日的北戴河会议上，毛泽东提出“书记挂帅，全党全民办钢铁工业”的方针。这便是“全民大炼钢铁”的由来。……毛泽东向陈云下达八条指示，其中提出：“要有铁的纪律，没有完成生产和调拨指标的，分别给予警告、记过、撤职、开除党籍处分。毛泽东还下令将各省市区主管工业生产的党委书记找来北戴河开会，会上宣布了毛泽东定下的纪律，俨然是“立下军令状”。
为了完成毛泽东的“翻番”目标，全国投入钢铁生产的劳力超过一亿人，占全国总人口的六分之一，办起来的小土炉达到几百万座，耗费了大量人力、物力、财力。……国家亏损五十亿元。至于过量地开采矿石、煤炭，滥砍树木等所造成的巨大损失，就无法计算了。
