One caveat here, it looks like this miner took the cheap route with regards to any sound dampening. Found some social media posts from residents complaining about the noise.

It's 100% needed. I was right there nodding in agreement, especially after several nostr devs went after Bitcoin maxis as if they've not been the niche bootstrapping and propping the whole thing up.
Nostr is far from a guarantee. Your normal retail user has no problems trading their metadata for "free" access to social media networks. If nostr clients/services need to monetize to survive, that is an uphill battle to buck user service expectations.
Considering most users crosspost across all of their socials, there really isn't no velvet rope theory in effect, either.

I don't think China wants to have to defend being the reserve currency in the slightest. I would love to be a fly on the wall in that meeting and see if #Bitcoin gets mentioned. It sounds like someone or group rubbed him the wrong way at the conference. That's unfortunate. However, he took a hammer to the topic versus grabbing a scalpel and addressing it with a little more tact.

Yet Bitcoiners did. Bitcoiners are the group that donated to OpenSats and other organizations that take donations to give grants. I'm one of them.
Again, the bottom line is his outburst has likely turned off some people like myself. I've suggested Damus for months now to folks looking for nostr clients at my local Bitcoin meetups. I will no longer do so. I've made some donations to nostr projects and seeing the folks that cosigned his message... that's going to stop, too.

Good piece. IMO, it's all about control and prioritization by those with it.
I was recently on a project team of a half billion dollar (and extremely basic) AI implementation that ended up being scrapped because of that. Those with the overarching control didn't want to cede an inch and ultimately blew up the entire thing.

Unfortunately, many liberals I know do not care about facts when it pertains to the folks they support. For example, look how quick they are to point to Trump's felonies but refuse to discuss Biden's take from China via the shell companies and family.
I've surveyed a handful of my Dem friends and usually everything always breaks down to "don't care because Trump is a nasty person." While I don't disagree with that, it just goes to show you that some do not care about facts or substance.

TLDR; Japan fucked the market…
Everyone was facing inflation but one country… JAPAN.
This meant Japan was in stagflation, lowering rates, and actually had negative interest rates.
When interest rates go up in the US, it becomes attractive to buy US treasuries especially the 10yr.
People were getting loans in Japan at extremely low interest rates (call it in the 1%) and investing in Nvidia (example), making it an easy trade. Also to make it even juicier the Yen was going down in value so imagine this…
You take out a $100,000 loan (of Yen) that you have to pay back w/ 1.5%, you go invest in tech stocks/treasuries. Let’s say you make 5%, that’s $5,000 profit, bringing you to a total of $105,000. You only have to pay back $101,000 in Yen, but also the Yen has gone down 20% in value, meaning you only have to pay back $80,000 (in Yen). And people keep on adding for YEARS to these loans because it’s getting cheaper and cheaper and free profits.
Not to mention they are also using SOOO MUCH margin. So imagine this, they secure the 100k loan and get a 200k position, 100k margin in Nvidia.
But wait… Japan decides to raise rates which increases the value of the Yen while everyone else is cutting rates (or about to) which decreases the value of said currency
So Yen 📈 everyone else 📉, this makes paying off loans even more difficult and this doesn’t include the margin call.
So now you have a 200k margin position on Nvidia, Nvidia is down 20%, so you’re down $40,000, on your position and get margin called. (More selling pressure)
Now you have to pay back an extra $40,000. Meaning your $100k of equity is now $60,000, and now bank of Japan is margin calling you because you only have 60k of the 100k owed, but also the Yen is up 10%, so you really owe 110,000 of Yen.
This is a super small example… it’s not 100,000, people think it’s 10trillion…

That’s not the point really. Of course many of their funds will continue to do well — they are a walled garden with locked in participants. Not adding a BTC ETF cost them and shareholders billions in potential losses while now having to chase their competitors if they do come in.
Not to mention they cost their clients significant gains and all of this in two months.

Did some #Bitcoin ETF math. In 26 trading days, they stacked 273,350 #BTC or 10,513.5/day. At the current epoch rate (900/day), that is 11.7 days of mining supply purchased. At the next epoch rate (450/day), that would be 23.4 days of mining supply purchased every day.

There is nothing really to discuss here. The average monthly salary ranges from sub 100 dollars to like 2K in South Africa. The last thing those folks are doing is saving -- they're just trying to survive. Same goes for most of the global south that Bitcoiners love to talk about.

I'd say this is a pretty significant problem. Everyone I've invited to Nostr from my local Bitcoiner Meetup gives up within a couple weeks because they feel isolated.
Pretty much the same handful of accounts dominates the feed and even their low value posts end up sucking up all of the engagement.
