Been hodling since before the famous post that coined the term. I haven’t been perfectly wise but I haven’t been perfectly unwise either. The biggest lesson I’ve learned while watching bitcoin price grow from 10¢ to $50,000+ is this: don’t quit your day job, get a better one. Meaningful work is a blessing and being able to choose where and how you work will be possible in time with the security bitcoin brings. Conversely, an unnaturally early retirement is more curse than blessing…very frequently works out poorly.

In a credit based fiat system, they can have as many financial crises as they’d like as long as economy keeps growing. They can paper over any mistake and let economic growth happen over time to correct for the money printing. It’s all a question of balance. Works best with increasing populations with ever increasing worker productivity.
Gold won’t fix this. Will help protect wealth but as money printer goes brrrr more gold will eventually be mined in proportion.
Bitcoin doesn’t care what its price is. This makes it unique in the history of things that satisfy the properties required of money (divisible, transferable, portable, verifiable, fungible, and scarce)…bitcoin is a new weapon against the money printer and the truth is nobody knows exactly what will happen, but there has never before been a better tool in the tool box available to regular people than bitcoin.

The Booth bomb I got from that episode with @npub1cj8…rz4u was this: protocols come around a lot less frequently than applications, and thus people frequently confuse the two. If you analyze bitcoin as an application, you’ll massively undervalue it because as an app it can’t do it all. Bitcoin only achieves its full measure as the base of a stack of layered protocols.

Maybe the final state of the Bitcoin / Fiat story won’t be a single cataclysm of explosive hyperbitcoinization but rather a gradual refining process where as the more people that exit fiat for bitcoin, the fiat powers that be are forced to change behavior to retain those fiat slaves they have remaining. Maybe Bitcoin’s offer of a credible threat of fiat exit will be a big enough stick to force an end to fiat slavery…

Finally got a BitAxe. It’s fun!
If you interrupt loading of the settings screen, you can input your own ASIC frequency and voltage setting.
Instead of the 490 MHz default and 590MHz max menu option, mine can run at 800MHz, albeit a bit hotter than I’m comfortable with and probably not stable as the power brick struggles to beep up.
But 700MHz only moderately stresses the brick and temps are between 60-65C depending on ambient air temperature.
Here’s to the lottery mining hobby! With these settings, it’ll cost $29 a year for a 1 in 10,000 chance at solving a block. Current expected value of this hobby $18.75, so clearly one can’t do this with an expectation of profit…and it’ll take 10,000 years to have a 50/50 chance of breaking even (assuming hash rate, power cost, snd bitcoin price stay fixed).

More US dollars are coming. The only question is “how will they be distributed?”
US law forbids deficit from financing social security, but money can be borrowed to pay for Medicare/Medicaid. So some of that new money will go in to health care. Some will probably go in to war industry.
The feds could purchase assets as a means of distributing more dollars…buying a bunch of gold or bitcoin seems the most unlikely to me though…the powers that be don’t have much of either.

Bow best to practice self custody before taking custody of sats.
Not your keys, not your coins is a harsh mistress. My advice, after you set up a wallet, write down the wallet identifier and then delete it. This forces you to test your backup immediately.
I’ve seen too many people have their first test be when they needed the backup.

Luke has discussed this at length in the past. As a satellite node runner, there would be clear benefits to smaller blocks in terms of IBD via satellite.
Everyone wants to compare block size to home internet bandwidth, but this is folly. Initial chain download and sync is the key step and cost in terms of time and hardware is the real cost.

Are you sure that’s Saylor’s model? As an OG but technically naive bitcoiner, I agree block space efficiency gains are always a win, all else being equal. I doubt Saylor would disagree.
But I wouldn’t be surprised if Saylor isn’t aware of how bitcoin consensus happens (has happened, can happen?). I think he would agree that obviously good things are obviously good if looked at long enough by enough bright people.
Another issue here is more subtle: there are properly smart/educated/competent/informed people capable of writing code that’s can withstand strict review and then there’s the set of people who argue about changes to protocol. These unfortunately are not the same set of people. I learned my lesson in 2016-17, taking the wrong side of the block size wars (just keep nudging block size up sorta like how it was done for years via bitcoin.conf and keep the status quo!). It wasn’t until I had a surprisingly brief IRL chat with Adam that I realized I was the total fool, despite being “in bitcoin” for far longer than him. It takes humility and a strong mind to see through one’s blind spots. I hope Saylor can do this should it arise.

The strange situation the Biden admin created was 1) the made it unlawful to bill Medicare/medicaid for medical services provided by the unvaxxed while 2) the law does not permit the firing of unvaccinated employees (re: covid) because employees can prove no reasonable accommodation is necessary by antibody testing (this is different from influenza, where firing is permitted because no such proof of immunity is possible for each set of annual pandemic influenza strains).
So, in short, the government weaponized employers against employees. This way the government can legitimately claim they never called for the firing of any unvaccinated employee. They just required employer to take a financial loss on the deal.

AFAIK, stats are based on handgun vs. Rifle (with shotgun being counted as rifle)…we can see the difference between handgun and rifle rounds objectively on imaging (meaning rifle velocities…short barreled AR’s might look like handgun shots). Not entirely wrong. First cycle was a bit shorter, not by a whole year, and it wasn’t all gpu’s. Example: the first slashdotting event brought big influx of new users and cpu mining difficulty pinned the difficulty adjustment meter (I was a successful solo miner back then, finding 4 blocks in the roughly 12 hrs before difficulty adjusted).
