But it is like lightning where they both sign an unbroadcasted commitment transaction allowing either of them reclaim the bitcoin, but have it time locked for the borrower until after the loan term. At any time the lender can claim the bitcoin without a timelock because the borrower signed a commitment transaction handing giving the bitcoin to them without a timelock.

No doctor has diagnosed anything. This condition isn't in online despite being fully researched over a century ago. Imagine trying to diagnose something that science doesn't admit exists. That's the spot the doctors are in.
I'm checking in daily, but this is the hardest day in a long time. I've certainly had days this bad. Something that slowly changes your physiology over 30 years has some really unfun times.

Don't even need to do all that.
Just add `randomuser.me` to your muted words, assuming your client supports that. Aside from that, you can also read from better relays. Right now, your kind 10002 shows your are using 11 relays, including 6 public relays, as both inbox and outbox.
You're also using an indexer relay (purplepag.es) as an inbox/outbox relay for some reason... That one is usually just used by clients in the background. You shouldn't need to add it as a read relay manually. It aggregates kind 10002 events from other relays, so you should not need to write to it manually either.
Looks like you have auth.nostr1.com in there as a public inbox/outbox, too. This relay is for DMs, so it should go in your kind 10050, not your kind 10002. In Amethyst, that would be the section for "DM Inbox Relays." Looks like you have it there already, so you can remove it from your inbox/outbox relays.
Nostr.band's relay is much better suited as a search relay than an inbox or outbox. It's an aggregator, so your notes will very likely end up on it whether you intentionally write to it or not, and that's also why it is full of spam. No need to write to it directly. Good news is, you have it listed as a search relay, too. You can go ahead and remove it as an inbox/outbox relay.
You can keep writing notes to the public relays if you want, but cut your read/inbox relays down to nostrelites.org, wot.utxo.one, and I would recommend nostr.wine as an additional read relay, even if you don't pay for write access. You could always add another WoT relay into the mix to read from as well.
That said, a brief review of the public relays you are using shows that most of the reply spam is on nos.lol, nostr-dev.wellorder.net, nostr-pub.wellorder.net, and offchain.pub. Remove them as inbox/read relays and you'll be much better off.

we are a pure nostr client, so we have to deal with protocol complexities. they are not a nostr client, so they can make many optimizations on their proprietary server (image caches, stats, follow counts, etc)

The combo of 1) people getting sucked into digital echo chambers and 2) people believing hallucinating AI answers without checking, is going to take a lot to change.
We are in an environment where if things *look* official enough, we’ll usually just instantly believe them. Since nobody has the time or inclination to check everything.
Like, someone can just tweet a picture of me at a conference, and put a quote next to it, and tons of people will take it at face value. People won’t stop and ask “is this actually a quote of hers from this conference?” It could be years ago, out of context, or not said by me at all, but one would never know since it seemed legit enough.
The current counter to this is basically to assume most things are potentially wrong in part or in full, unless further verified. But the risk there is people get detached and don’t bother researching things.
One thing you can do is go through your follow list and remove people/entities who don’t have a high signal ratio. In other words, keep people you agree or disagree with that are locked in and high signal, but remove those who parrot things they don’t understand or spread misinformation on a regular basis.
In an environment of endless quantity, it is more important than ever to elevate quality.

Spyware company Palantir is engaged in large-scale data collection on American citizens, having taken on multiple contracts across Federal Government agencies with large holdings of private information.
A March 2025 Executive Order signed by Trump mandated all Federal Agencies to remove all barriers to intra- and inter-agency sharing of unclassified records. Coracle also has the ability to display notes from those outside of your WoT that meet a minimum proof-of-work you configure. Very limited usefulness, though, since most clients don't support adding PoW to notes.
I also lean toward private mutes, but I am also sympathetic to use-cases like @nprofile…u0w6's web-of-trust scoring that deducts score based on how many within your WoT have muted a given npub.
That's another way that choice is advantageous, though. The ones you would most want to be taken inter consideration for WoT scoring would be muted scammers and spammers, which a user probably has no issue being publicly shamed. Whereas the mutes you most likely want to have kept private are just people who you don't get along with, and that sort of reason for muting probably doesn't need to be taken into consideration for WoT score, as others may get along with them fine.

When I stayed in Korea for a bit we went to a gym in the building and it gameified cardio.
All the treadmills and bikes were hooked up to their app where you scan in to get the machine started and it would track your progress. And put up how many km you have done on the screen and you could actively compete with other people on the machines. If you did 2k, 4k, and 8k you'd get a certain amount of points a day which you could redeem for protein shakes or drinks at the front desk. I have never done so much cardio before 😂
Oh and if the whole gym reached a goal at the end of the month everyone who participated/got a badge could get a banana or some kind of treat. I miss that gym.

I think the poison pill approach could be implemented as a soft fork after all, with a cleaner mechanism:
After activation at block height X:
1. **Vulnerable UTXOs cannot be spent directly** - they require a prior announcement
2. **Weak announcement** with no private key needed: "I intend to spend UTXO A with transaction X after block B+144"
3. **Strong announcement** with a commitment proof: References a potentially old, pre-fork commitment and provides proof that this UTXO was included
4. **After 144 blocks**: The UTXO can be spent according to the strongest announcement (oldest commitment wins)
This is a soft fork because:
- We're not "undoing" transactions
- We're adding new rules about *when* certain UTXOs can be spent
- Old nodes still see valid transactions, just with different timing
The key insight is that the "weak announcement" doesn't require private keys - it just declares intent. This preserves the validity of pre-signed transactions (they can still be announced and executed, just with a delay).
Meanwhile, anyone who created commitments before the fork can use "strong announcements" to override potential quantum attackers during the window.
This gives us poison pill protection while maintaining backward compatibility. No transaction reversal needed - just a new spending process for vulnerable UTXOs.

Looks like it used to be possible to fake zap other people back when zaps were new, which was what I thought I remembered too, but here’s where it was fixed in Damus. No doubt some of the other clients had the issue too and fixed it after this. Nostr.band probably never purged those from their stats, as I think that’s the only place now you can see that.
