Adding an npub to my kind 3 just means I'll see that npub's posts in my feed. We've not necessarily made any kind of mutual connection and may have no relationship to one another at all.
All that it means is that I am interested in seeing what that npub has to say.
If it worked by sending some kind of request to connect that had to be approved by the npub I was trying to connect with, then you might be on to something.

Morning Nostr! Up and at ‘em this morning. Got the Bitcoin miner moved upstairs this morning pointed at the thermostat. Was able to go from 63f in the main area of my house to 67f before heading out the door for work. So pleased with it, and the best part is I don’t have to burn any propane to run the furnace. Perfect for days like today where it’s 45f in the morning and 75f in the afternoon.

since october 2023, roughly, first heard about it in about june 2023 on twitter, and heaps of my follows were endlessly talking about it but i was skeptical at first, because people talk shit about shit
well, nostr is still some crazy thing, not saying it's not, but it wasn't one of those stupid things like bluesky and mastodon are.
best part was that it attracted a lot of based people and i'm pretty based so that was good because literally i had quit facebook 4 years before that and twitter came up in 2021 in part related to me trying to get work writing code for bitcoin stuff.

This is what I have come to guess. I've talked about some issues I've had to certain people and I was told they probably expected free stuff in exchange of the promotion it would've given me, which can be fair I understand but it isn't what I'm looking for. People tell me the same thing you did. "Look at it as an investment". I understand the strategy it's fair. But again, at the time it isn't what I was looking for.
But I could be missing something and I shouldn't vent my frustration over this so openly.

The current largest systemic problem in Bitcoin is mining centralization. It’s the fact that we have millions of *hashers* and barely a handful of *miners* on the network.
There has been endless claims about solutions, but no project has done more, practically and explicitly, than @npub1qtv…7dze to start to turn this problem around.
If an opinion on op_return, or an abrasive remark, or some viewpoint difference has you dismissing or denying the fact that they are doing more than anyone else to solve this problem, then I’d argue you aren’t serious about Bitcoin.
I respect lots of people that I don’t agree with, and even many that I don’t even like, or whose personalities just rub me the wrong way. But I respect and recognize what they do for bitcoin, and realize that weird, angry, or antisocial contrarians are often those who do the most to balance groupthink. That’s often a big part of why I value them.
If you think there is another project doing more to solve this problem, I’m all ears. But right now I don’t see evidence of it. And I couldn’t care less what silly statements are made by anyone involved (and can point to an endless supply by anyone, including myself, if that’s what I wanted to focus on) as long as they continue moving the needle to solving Bitcoin’s greatest risk.
I deleted my original account, and I mostly lurk occasionally just for the trainwreck entertainment value.

Under SB 2420, starting 2026, app stores must verify the age of every user. Want to download a weather app? You’ll need to show ID. And if you’re under 18, you can’t install anything without a parent’s permission.

My wife and i have a band called Lies & Sets
Our first ever track is called "Internet Vänn", which means "Internet Friend".
The lyrics are in swedish and talk about friendship on the internet and how quickly people can turn on eachother through judgmental readings. "Wrong" semantics that will lead someone to be outcast from communities in superficial herd verdicts of who someone may be, based on the words they use. It examines how that could go in a different setting, when everyone share space and time, and asks us to think again before labeling someone something based on their internet persona.

It appears it is also possible to add a relay list to the static json file that serves for NIP-05, which is useful when running your own or your community's relays. Though the NIP-65 (mailbox) method seems to be preferred.

AFAIU, you can advertise your preferred relays, very much like you would your NIP-05, and some clients will look that up. Those are servers, but in terms of clients there are even more! And since the API bonanza is up to each server-software developer, some apps only work against specific servers... Fediverse is a mess in all possible ways. But in my smol opinion, it's by far the most topically diverse and fun FOSS network at the time of writing this. Which i suppose is more of a network effect thing than purely technical.
Nostr client manufacturers, think about this. Hardly a beginner associates the name of your client with a Nostr client. Forget even the word "client", that's too abstract. Yes, of course, protocol is one thing and client is another, I'm aware of this distinction. But the beginner is not. They search for "Nostr" in the app stores and find nothing to download.
The word "Nostr" must be included in the name. There is no alternative. Come up with something.
Or leave it as something that only people with the concept of client/server architecture in their heads understand, your choice. Mental entry barrier or not? Your choice.

Force closes between (even professional) Lightning nodes happened every time mempool fees go through the roof.
