My life is unreasonably good right now, way beyond what I could have hoped for.
Of course all the particulars are precarious. Freedom, health, life itself can end in a heartbeat literally.
But until that happens, I have to look in amazement that I can just type into a keyboard and publish my thoughts, speak into the microphone attached to my desk and broadcast my ideas.
I can hear about a book about black holes and time warps, press a few keys and it’s delivered to my door in a couple days, read it and have my mind blown.
I know how to cook, to buy ingredients at the farmer’s markets. I know how to take care of my body, I have a daughter that is a good kid and dog that’s a bad dog, but perfect in his way.
My wife is based. There is zero conflict with my work, neither of us took the clot shot, neither of us would ever trust anything from The Regime again. She has my back, and I have hers.
I wake up, walk the dog, drink my black coffee with ghee, settle down to shitpost and work. I can write about anything or nothing. I can drive 25 minutes to the beach if I want. Or go to the track for a run. Or do Sudoku puzzles all day which I have done.
I had a whole roast chicken for dinner last night. I bought it at the French butcher who has the best, freshest, most flavorful chickens. I got parsnips, carrots, mushrooms, onions and garlic at the market for my wife who made it. We had salad with tomatoes, peppers, onions and lettuce. We washed it down with the bottles of the best sparkling water that we have delivered from the Spanish market.
I make kombucha, I make sauerkraut. I grow herbs and chilis on my balcony. I have a sports podcast, high-stakes fantasy football teams. I watch the NFL every Sunday. I watch my daughter’s basketball games. We hike alongside the ocean cliffs or in the forest.
My apartment is nearly 100 years old. It has high ceilings, wood floors, light coming in from both sides. I have a lot of house plants that recycle the stale air and emit oxygen. There is a tree outside my balcony, it’s like a giant house plant in the background.
The sounds of cars going by, the people in the street. There is a church nearby and you can hear the people singing every Sunday.
They are singing about God. Which is maybe what I’m writing about too.

it is very bizarre — I can’t believe they’re that inept or negligent, has to be something going on.
But the problem with cheating is some states like Florida will play it straight, so how do you explain the discrepancy? And once people see how obvious it is, “you’re a conspiracy theorist, our elections are secure” won’t cut it in 2020.

I know about the Cantillon Effect within borders, but was thinking there must also be one between them.
Let’s say the US prints $4T through some bill, and a bunch of already super rich Cantillonaires see their net worth go up by many billions. Can’t they take that newly created wealth and buy foreign assets with it?
Now of course eventually the printing will cause a currency devaluation commensurate with it, so they’ll get less for their money. But if there’s any lag between the printing and the full commensurate devaluation, I would think the Cantillonaires can pounce in foreign markets too.

I don't think the betting markets are reliable election indicators anymore. For starters, they could be manipulated by campaigns looking to influence plausibility and keep donations coming in.
But even if that weren't happening, there's another big problem which is that a large portion of Trump supporters believe the election process is likely to be rigged.
Such a person might believe Trump will garner more real votes, but would not want to bet on the outcome. If say 40 or 50 percent of Trump supporters (obviously I'm making up that number, but seems plausible to me) feel this way and don't bet, that means there are 3:1 Harris supporters in the pool of bettors, and that's going to skew the odds massively.
As such, I think the betting markets are terrible indicators this time around.
(The reason this occurred to me was that Polymarket (I read somewhere) had Tim Walz as a big favorite to win the debate. Seemed like that would only be possible if Trump voters were disinclined to bet due to perceived rigging.)
That means much of the analysis around election odds (which if fueled by manipulable polls and poor-indicator betting markets) is garbage-in, garbage out.
Personally, I have two takes on the real election odds:
1. To the extent cheating is possible (and some of that will depend on the vigilance of the citizenry) the chance it happens approaches 100 percent.
And
2. When the usual indicators (polling, betting markets) have been gamed, look to the fundamentals. In this case, it's bad economy, high inflation, immigration crisis paired with a candidate that lacks political skill, i.e., the ability to persuade people and inspire confidence.
I don't know how much cheating will ultimately be allowed, so I can't predict the official result, but to me the fundamentals say landslide.

Friend of mine told me she had had only one bad trip in her life, the time they took mushrooms and decided to watch The Wall.
Someone else changed the subject before I could share my bad trip due to someone putting on Caligula. Very dark, violent and pornographic.
While I was kind of traumatized by it, my friend never tripped again. And another guy we were with dropped out of college and was last seen chanting at the airport with Hare Krishnas (back in the 1990s).

Woke up annoyed today.
Last night we busted our 12.5 YO for having an Instagram account. (Apparently she opened it last week, convinced her best friend to open one, friend got busted by her mom, mom texts my wife, busted.)
I’m not really angry at her for doing something we told her never to do — when you raise a kid who questions authority, inevitably she questions YOUR authority too.
But I’m pissed because the cunts at Instagram and Tic Tock et al have essentially taken away my daughter’s freedom to discover the world for herself.
We’ve recently let her roam the city, surf the web on her Raspberry Pi, etc. We want her to experience the benign neglect of Gen X. Back then, maybe a few kids got hooked on drugs, but it was by far the exception. Mostly, we just did normal stupid shit and learned from it.
Now though you can’t leave them to their own devices because drug addition (smart phones, which she doesn’t yet have, but many of her friends do and social media) is the norm.
It would be like growing up in a drug-infested city where you couldn’t let your kids out of the house by themselves at all.
I don’t want to spy on her, have to constantly police what she’s being exposed to, but the world has ever more potent ways of hooking them now. (The other scourge is this retarded “skin care” trend wherein they buy toxic af products and use them, another battle to fight.)
When the society is your enemy, being a parent is tough. Makes me want to move to the country and home school, though my wife has no appetite for that. (Truth is, I don’t really either, but I would do it if we got to the point where I felt it were necessary.)
Just fucking annoyed at the evil of our society and the dim-witted, fit-in-at-all-costs ethos of other parents.

Working on a post about Christians of which I am not one. Growing up in NYC, I always thought of the “Christian Right” as a bunch of scoldy, joyless losers (kind of how I feel about the woke left now).
But during the last few years, it’s been obvious that a large portion of those who had the courage to speak out against tyranny rather than abjectly comply were those who believed in something higher than the State. They couldn’t be easily bullied by fear and incentives because their belief in God inoculated them against the utilitarian nihilism of trading principles for social and professional expedience.
It’s not that they don’t have fear or feel the pressure everyone else feels. It’s that they were able to manage those emotions without caving in.
As I said I am not one, but am awfully glad they exist.

Funny thing is I don’t really understand how nostr works, like I don’t manage my relays at all, and don’t quite get why that would matter, but I post as much as anyone.
Like what does it matter if I’m on some default free relays if other relays are gonna pick it up eventually anyway? I see all my notes in multiple clients. I get that theoretically some clients could censor or some relays could censor, but it doesn’t *seem* to be happening to me now.
I mostly learn by doing, so if one day, my notes aren’t showing up, and I have to fix it, and then I’ll probably understand.
Until then if it works, I just use it.

Have a podcast maybe 400 people listen. Have a two substacks, maybe about the same read each.
Kind of small compared to my old job and I’ve been doing this full time* for almost three years.
But then I think — imagine you were a musician doing gigs and at least 400 people showed up for them. That’s pretty good.
And consider Johann Sebastian Bach wasn’t known for his compositions until 100 years after his death! One of the greatest artists in human history just writing away in obscurity. He fucked around big time, never even found out one bit.

Need some fact checking/concept validating help for the long-form post I’m working on. I know there are *many* here who are knowledgeable in the topic.
This is the first part of the essay. Let me know if anything I describe is inaccurate in this section if you’re inclined:
DRAFT:
I have a thesis as to why things have gone so off the rails in the United States (and beyond), but it might not be what you think. Most of what we decry as insane and inexplicable policies are but symptoms of an underlying process. That process is the creation of money via fiat, the way in which the money propagates through the system and how it distorts the incentives of so many who are beholden to it.
Let’s start at the beginning. New money is created via debt issuance all the time. It’s why the US government is nearly $36 trillion in debt — it issues bonds and owes the bond buyers the interest and principle on it. “Issuing debt” is a fancy way of saying “borrowing money.” The US government borrows from its citizens, corporations, geopolitical allies (and even adversaries) to finance its operations.
If there is insufficient demand for its debt, i.e., if not enough people want to loan it money, it can raise rates, i.e., promise to pay more interest so as to entice more lenders, or just have the Federal Reserve buy the debt and place the assets (bonds) on its balance sheet. US government debt (promise to pay) is an asset, and so the Fed can put that promise on its balance sheet.
The result of new money coming into the system via government borrowing is inflation. There is simply more money chasing the same amount of goods and services, so the prices for them rise. If while injecting more money into the economy the government were simultaneously injecting more goods and services, there wouldn’t be inflation, but unfortunately while you can always print more money out of thin air, you can’t print more energy, grass-fed steak or expert medical care.
But the inflation of the money supply and its concomitant debasement doesn’t happen all at once. Initially when there’s more money injected into the system, those who are closest to the new supply (banks, through which it passes, their largest accounts, investors and asset holders) spend it and benefit from it before its inflationary effect has taken hold. This is known as the Cantillon Effect. Eventually inflation drives ordinary wages up too, but not enough to offset higher prices, and only after the Cantillonaire class has disproportionately benefitted.
The unfairness of this arrangement is evident enough, but the second and third order effects are far more sinister. When the government can essentially borrow (print) money to finance whatever it wants, whether the Iraq War and its military contractors, “free” mRNA shots (Pfizer made $100B off those contracts) or any other policy that benefits cronies and favored corporations, there are going to be a lot of resources and effort devoted to getting in good with the decision makers in the government.
Put differently, if I run a small business, I can only earn money if I offer my customers something they value enough to pay more for it than it cost me to produce. If I hire you, you’ll need to add value to the business and also hope it can continuing adding enough value to customers to pay your salary. We have to work for it.
But the government can simply print it, and in infinite supply. Are you better off starting a business (or working for one) that relies on adding value to its customers in a competitive environment or one that taps the infinite font of government money?

Agree they won’t prosecute silence, but it might be the equivalent of not making the trip, not taking the risk, not venturing out. The opportunities might be entirely missed. Would be trivially easy for AI to screen social media for candidates.

People are worried about posting dissident views under their real identities because they could get in trouble for them.
But just as admitting you smoked weed or used hallucinogens once disqualified you from many jobs (and now no one cares) or learning to code was deemed important (and now AI will probably do a lot of the work), it’s impossible to know what will be helpful or harmful to your prospects in the future.
Maybe people who spoke out will be sought after because AI will obsolete NPC-types from the workforce entirely.
Maybe being silent and going along to get along is the real risk to your prospects.

One thing that's overlooked in discussions of health and medicine is the status quo ante of the patient. Like if you’re ostensibly healthy, the only criterion you should have about trying a remedy or treatment is how risky is it?
I’ll experiment with all kinds of supplements, took ivermectin when I had covid because I know all of them are very low risk. Do they help? I really don’t know because I can’t compare myself to the version of me that didn’t take them.
But I didn’t take the mRNA (thank God), and I won’t undergo certain procedures (colonoscopy? no thanks) because there’s real downside if they go wrong. (Plus, it seems psy-oppy to me that men in this society are expected to spread it for a bunch of people in technical garb.)
But if I were in bad shape and had all kinds of health problems, then the possibility of one of these things helping me *might* be worth the risk (still I’d probably just try to get into better shape, and definitely not the mRNA), but you can’t recommend the same treatments for everyone of a certain age, for example, because you’re ignoring this fundamental baseline.
I got mobbed for making this observation on Twitter (well a similar one) 18 months ago, and it was one of the most hilarious and telling back and forths I ever had on that web site. (Seriously, colonosophiles were coming out of the woodwork.)

Funny thing just happened. 12-YO daughter’s friend called on the land line we got just before the summer. Had to take a message, say she’d call her back when she gets home.
Took me back 40 years.

Two facts about my dog.
One he has a nostr account @npub138y…aszc.
Two he eats so much food (two large bowls for a 10 pound dog), and then every time I go into the kitchen he shows up and I have to give him something. He gets steak, salami, chicken, yellow and red peppers, pear, apple, frozen figs. And he NEVER gains weight.
Maybe it’s because his food is this organic slop from a dog food store that has no grains — he is low carb except for the fruit we occasionally give him, and it’s very small pieces at that.
Hilarious when he eats a chunk of apple or pepper because he doesn’t have molars, so he had to really clomp his jaw together to grind it down.
But the amount he consumes relative to his size without gaining any weight is astounding.

Lot of people I know look to betting markets rather than polls to handicap the election. But if Trump were assassinated, obviously that's a loss of your bet. Same as if he lost due to cheating.
So given there have been two attempts, and cheating is considered likely by many Trump supporters and presumably bettors, what would the non-cheating, non-assassination odds be?
And given that everyone knows the corporate media is in the tank, and even Google is altering search results, what would be the real, honest, fair democratic odds?
I think the answer to that is why there have been two assassination attempts so far and all the absurd lawfare that preceded them.
It's not that people love Trump (some do, but a minority). It's that we are all so sick of these sociopathic factions (pharmaceutical conglomerates, big banks, war machine, corporate media, oligarch-funded NGOs and unelected bureaucrats) forcing reviled candidates and deeply unpopular policies on us.
Very few support lockdowns, forced injections, child sex changes, censorship, wars, willful neglect of the border and inflation caused by the money printing used to pay for all of the above.
If we had any kind of democratic election where the people were given unfettered access to information, without the heavy thumbing of the scale, there is no question in my mind we'd be looking at a historic landslide.

Just smoked a shitty cigar. I am loath to pay 15-20 euros for a cigar, but the 8-10 euro ones are bad. Guess it’s a bit like wine — you can buy cheap wine, but you’ll feel like shit and not enjoy it.
