I was invited to give a talk about bitcoin at firm called prime assets. I did not know at the time, but the fund manager thought I was going to make a fool of myself. I arrived with a laptop wearing a hoodie, jeans and safety boots. I was five minutes into the presentation when he cut me off and started spewing circular arguments never getting to the point. I immediately closed my laptop. Took a seat with the guest and listened to how he is going to shift from the dollar to the yen for half an hour.
Afterward his customers all wanted to talk with me outside. Many of them +-35 years my senior. We started a bitoin club and we met at my friends workshop. They are all bitcoine maxi's today and I've dubbed the fund managers business Dub Prime Assets since.
Finance bro's.
They are so fragile and unprofessional.
Also about five years now.

If there is something I want people to take to heart. If I had to lose all my bitcoin in a boating accident. For real. Or had it taken in a $5 wrench attack. Or lost my private key while moving house. Let's say I had zero sats to my name.
I would still champion bitcoin as a freedom technology because my love for and interest in bitcoin did not start with ngu. Ngu was immediately evident to me but was not what sold it to me.
I saw a treasure more valuable than living in comfort and luxury. I saw a weapon that lifted the downtrodden and oppressed. A new hope for liberation from tyranny invisible yet tangible.
Why continue to preach/support bitcoin if uninvested?
Because it is noble to be happy for the victory and wealth of all disadvantaged people through disposition of restrictions on private property.
PS: They will never get my bitcoin and I will never sell it.

I've had the same thing happen to me three times. I'm a fool.
But I learn.
Semi popular bitcoin influencers whose content I enjoy, youtubers and podcasters not the OG content creators. New guys, good content. I have had them pop onto nostr and make a post that follows along these lines.
"Show me where the plebs are at, I need to follow more plebs on #nostr #this #that #bitcoin"
I see many comments of guys saying, "yo, here, me, hi, cool" as a reply to his post and sometimes I am one of those.
Then a couple of days later I go look and they did not follow any of those reply's. Maybe a few, but It sort of made me feel like they are just saying it to farm their existing followers for interaction to sort of gauge the engagement and reach their posts.
I find it disingenuous and low. Pisses me off. Don't bring your youtube/facebook/twitty algorithmic habits and apply it on your potential nostr followers. We are not a metric we are legion. Here we are equals from the poorest pleb to the most OG bitcoiners. On Youtube and Facebook you can use the algo to measure and guage your audience but on NOSTR we are on a level playing field.
Treat us like humans and not like cattle. If you want mutual respect.
Secondly, with regards to these influencers bringing their TwitFace ways to nostr, I did not join nostr to learn or see interesting things, though I must admit that I am very frequently pleasantly surprised by the humour, memes, ingenuity, common sense and intellect all around. I enjoy zapping people for saying these things.
I am using nostr as therapy to finally release all the pent up frustration I've harboured by self censorship and abstaining from centralised social media for years. I finally have creative outlet and all I really wanted to do is write my Bitcoin themed scifi story and share it with whoever finds it interesting.
I decided that I am not following anyone except those who follow me giving me a more diversified and non echo chamber feed.
So influencer dumbasses. If you want plebs to follow you, do the hard work and find them yourself, find something you like that they said and zap em. If they are original and interesting give them a follow. They will follow you if they find the same of you and then at least you would have earned it.
Umkay? Annoying twitface behaviour.

This morning my daughters asked why are there white people in Southern Africa.
I started at mountians in Turkey on google maps. Went all about the Mediteranean coast. Showed them Asterix comics and the Roman Empire. Showed the Gibraltar passage and Pillars of Hercules. Told them about Marco Polo and the silk roads history. Then I explained how fucked Portugal is in the whole trading with the East deal. How Bartolomias Dias halfway circumnavigated Africa planting crosses all along the coast. Then I used a tennis ball as Earth, light bulb as polaris and a pencil for the southern cross. They loved scurvy. Then I had to throw in the Suez canal but I digressed. Went on to Vasco De Gama being the first european to reach India by boat. And then The Dutch East India company, Jan Van Riebeeck closed the deal. I also had a tangent on tundra, rainforest and desserts, weather, oceans and currents.
To put it simply.
When I finally finished they were like.
Cool, makes sense.
That was supposed to be a Bible study.

I suppose it depends on what you are trying to do. I don't care much. I believe most information should be as free as possible. If someone finds that I am a sincere, well informed persona - following or seeing who I follow can help them get into a loop of high signal content and ideas. I use other peoples follows to sift through this type high signal data. If I follow someone who consistently boosts someone else without adding valuable original input I would much rather just follow the former. So I find the open book useful.
With regards to privacy, I don't say what I consider private online. No matter what the protocol.

Many a time when I was in dire straits the people who helped me I did not know beforehand and I never heard from them again. Did not even ask their name in some cases.
I was saved from drowning twice. Once in a pool when I was 6 and once in the ocean when I was 17.
An old man and his wife jumped my vehicle when it died and I was with my wife and our baby.
Once I was travelling long distance and my vehicle broke down, I had my family with me. I was towed 40 kilometers by a guy and his brother in law given place to stay for almost a week while they had my vehicle repaired.
I know their names and am still in contact with them.
A guy I did not know paid my vets bills for my dog's broken leg after he ran under my car.
I could mention a lot of other events.
I made a lot of mistakes in my teenage years and cost people a lot in emotional and economic damage.
The point is that I have helped other people in need when I was in a position to assist them and they owe me nothing because I am indebted to others who required nothing from me in return.
Many of us are just good Samaritans who also get beat up every once in a while. It keeps you humble.

I think he feared the idea of people seperating his ideas from his identity.
I see this with engineers.
They want to make something to improve the world but then they patent it to restrict the free market from benefitting without the engineers lable of approval being stamped upon it.
The philosopher's paranoia is even worse because worthwhile ideas are valuable to the recipient merely by having thunk a thought.
If a thought could be claimed handwriting rightly endears it to the originator much like the signature inscribed on the back of the typewriter.
The typewriter could not mark itself.
And a typed out signature would prove useless as proof of ownership.
