I love Strike. I use it. I see two small issues. 1) Strike is not available everywhere. 2) It's odd to tell people to use Nostr because it requires no KYC or registration, but then we tell them to use this cool Nostr feature that requires KYC and registration.

Announcing Olas 0.1!
Olas is an Instagram-like client for iOS and Android.
Olas 0.1 provides a feed of videos (like those on flare/highlighter/zap.stream), picture events (kind:20, a new kind that no client had implemented yet) and the classical short notes with images attached we are all used to.
When publishing images, Olas uses the new kind:20, in a future release you’ll be able to control whether to publish as a short note so that it appears in microblogging clients too.

TikTok is much better if you use it in a country where they haven’t enabled the crazy home shopping network functionality. This is kind of like Amazon where they found a business model that makes so much money they can’t stop as it destroys the central value proposition of their platform.
I’ve seen people here say they’d like a Nostr app like TikTok for video. I’ve even thought that at times. Throughout the election season, I spent a fair amount of time browsing other social media apps, including Tiktok. I hadn’t used it in a couple years and I hate it now compared to what it used to be. It is essentially this generation’s “Home Shopping Network.” Nothing but constant ads, even from people who “aren’t advertising.” This isn’t really surprising, I guess, but it’s a horrendous user experience. Whatever improvements can be made on nostr for video publishing and consumption, PLEASE don’t make it into another TikTok. 😩

We recently installed CoreLightning to tryout Bolt12 but when I generate an offer and try to pay from @npub1ex7…vyt9 , I get an error that a route couldn’t be found. But if I generate a lightning invoice request form the CoreLightning node, I can pay that and invoice. I’m confused how one could work and the other will not.

I am trying out Android about once a year, and this time I saw some improvements in usability, but I would still rate it 7/10. The initial experience of setting it up and a barrage of questions that I am 100% sure will confuse any non-tech person and just open all their data for Google to do what they want with it. Say what you want about Apple and its walled garden, Android is too customizable with too many options and bad default options for the user’s privacy and security. And no, I do not expect your non-tech granny to screw around with custom OS for the device 🫡

Update on Core Lightning….i opened a second channel and made sure it wasn’t flagged as a private channel. Still can’t receive a Bolt12 payment, now the channel is offline and I haven’t got a clue as to what to do. The logs keep showing a “failed to broadcast notification .” What I thought was going to be cool has turned into a nightmare. Any CoreLightningNode runners around that can help me out. I just want to get the channel back up so I can close it and forget about it.
I am not running Damus in test flight (beta) rather I am using the iOS App Store version. The script when I run it does not toggle to 1 is stays at 0 which tells me it is not flipping the bit to toggle the icon back on.

I've seen people mention before that they'd like notifications for when certain npubs post to Nostr. Nostur on iOS does this already. For us Android folks, I'm assuming that this could be done with Pokey. Maybe @nprofile…vh28 could implement a subscription section, where you can add npubs to subscribe to, and you'd get notifications for when they create a new note. The technical hurdle here would be then subscribing to that npub's relays and watching them for new notes and having to do so for every npub that you're subscribing to, right? That doesn't sound efficient or battery friendly. Maybe another, better method exists?

GM! Doc I need some #DocChain advice. I haven't ran a 5K in over two weeks 😭😭😭 I hurt my knee somehow. I don't remember twisting it or doing anything that hurt it. Two+ weeks ago it felt different laying in bed and the next morning it hurt bit. I ran a 5K that day. It hurt more that night. Next morning it was still not feeling 100%, but after moving around it was fine I thought. I could run without issue so I ran another 5K. That afternoon my knee really hurt and became really stiff. It was noticably bad. I haven't ran since. It doesn't hurt now, but it's a bit uncomfortable and gets stiff if I don't move it. It's odd. It feels like there's something stuck or pressure under the knee cap or on the side of my knee. Katie wants me to go get X-rays. I assumed I'm old and somehow hurt myself and it would be fine in a couple weeks. Thoughts? 😂👀

Not you have it backwards. I didn’t have much outgoing liquidity. My partner had the outgoing, so if the channel closed, the sats on his/her side would have gone back onchain. Then they’d be down liquidity on their node and need to find another partner to open with as well as would incur additional fees.
It would appear that they seized an opportunity when a route passed from their side (send side) to my side (routing through me) that pushed liquidity off their side of the channel (to my side) and then closed the channel.
When the channel closes, it sends whatever outgoing liquidity I had in the channel back onchain. Therefore it costs me sats when the channel closes which can’t be avoided, but it also costs me to open a new channel.
In the end, it’s not that big of a deal. But the right thing to do would have been to close the channel when all the outgoing was on their side if they were unhappy with the channel. They made the decision, they should have incurred the hit. Now my node is out of balance and I’ll be looking for a replacement channel. As well as I have to wait on the funds to settle back onchain.

With your spending habits, it’s hard to watch 🤣😂🤣🫂(don’t zap)
When you have the outgoing liquidity on a channel and it closes, those sats get sent back onchain. If you have a channel where the liquidity is all your partner’s side (you only have incoming liquidity), your sats are setting another channel as outgoing. You can rebalance or wait for a route from that channel partner that rebalances when it pushes sats through.
In my scenario, I had very few sats on my side as outgoing, had a really large route come through pushing liquidity to my partner. Then my partner closed the channel. So my partner kept his sats in the Lightning channels of his node and sent my sats back on chain. Kind of a dick move if you ask me. First time I’ve had that happen.

The NSA’s War on #Bitcoin Privacy: A Digital Dragnet Exposed
In a stunning revelation from March 2018, classified NSA documents leaked by Edward @npub1sn0…jdv9 exposed an aggressive surveillance apparatus specifically targeting Bitcoin users worldwide. The operation, which began in 2013, marked Bitcoin as the agency’s “#1 priority” among cryptocurrencies.
Under the codename #OAKSTAR, costing $9.41 million annually, the NSA deployed #MONKEYROCKET - a deceptive surveillance tool masquerading as privacy software. This program harvested vast amounts of user data through fiber optic cables that form the internet’s backbone.
The surveillance went far beyond monitoring Bitcoin’s public blockchain. The NSA collected:
• Password information
• Internet activity logs
• MAC addresses
• IP addresses
• Network ports
• Timestamps
• Billing information
Most disturbing was the program’s methodology - presenting itself as an “anonymization service” popular in Iran and China while actually funneling user data directly to NSA servers. This “full take” surveillance gave the agency unprecedented visibility into Bitcoin transactions and user behavior.
The operation was conducted under Executive Order 12333, giving law enforcement broad authority to use gathered intelligence. This raises serious questions about parallel construction - the practice of concealing surveillance-derived evidence by creating alternative explanations for its discovery.
The revelations vindicated long-held suspicions about government monitoring of cryptocurrency users. As cryptographer Matthew Green noted, this makes privacy features in cryptocurrencies “totally worthless” against state-level surveillance, since the NSA can monitor network connections themselves.
This exposure of the NSA’s Bitcoin surveillance program represents one of the most significant privacy breaches in #cryptocurrencies or #Bitcoin history, demonstrating the lengths to which state actors will go to undermine financial privacy in the digital age.

Bailey points out that Lummis' Bill notes that nothing in this Act shall be construed to authorize the gov to seize, confiscate, or otherwise impair any property right in the >>>lawfully acquired Bitcoin holdings<<< of any person.
To Lummis, as she lays out in both her amendment to the 24 NDAA and the Responsible Financial Innovation Act I cited in my previous post, lawfully acquired Bitcoin holdings are Bitcoin acquired in adherence to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing laws and IRS compliance.
Lummis' Bill does not need to authorize the confiscation of Bitcoin as the confiscation of Bitcoin is governed just like the confiscation of any other asset, namely forfeiture law. This is how the government has acquired the Bitcoin it already owns.
Lummis' NDAA amendment plus her introduced Responsible Financial Innovation Act will greatly expand the Bitcoin the government is able to seize by increasing KYC/AML/OFAC requirements, codifying IRS compliance, and outlawing privacy, i.e. "combating anonymous crypto asset transactions."
Bailey also points out that Lummis plans to finance the reserve with the Fed's surplus fund. But the Fed's surplus fund only generates a surplus when the Fed buys securities. When the Fed buys securities, it expands the money supply. When the Fed expands the money supply, it increases inflation. When inflation increases, purchasing power sinks, resulting in an involuntary tax.
