Definitely no refund wanted. Happy to offer sacrificial sats at the temple of decentralized commerce.
Just got those updates rolled out; apologies for the issues and thank you for the call out. 🙏
I can also refund you for the loss of funds if you like for the inconvenience.

Yeah. I would think for online stores in general, attempt to sell something when a user is not signed in is definitely possible but is pretty damn challenging, especially when you add all the complexities of Nostr on top of that....

Ahhhh, that is a very good point, I hadn't checked the Zeus edge-case. I'll get that fixed up ASAP.
As for the signed-in part, I did a bit of testing to allow users to not have to be signed in in order to purchase something, but if your experience is similar to others it's probably best to revert that. Really appreciate the feedback! 🙏

It shouldn't matter if you're signed in or not to place an order, you can pay without being signing in but won't receive a receipt. Your signing permissions are not set properly if the spinner is loading constantly (I for example just signed in on multiple different accounts with all the signing methods and I was able to view my past orders). What signing methid did you use to sign in (extension, bunker, nsec)?

Maybe you want to prevent purchases if a user is not signed in?
I just tried again, making sure I was signed in, and I was able to purchase something successfully.
yes it was waiting for maybe 30 seconds? if the user is running zeus or something which is not online 24/7 where they have to "accept" the payment, then none of this likely will work well...

Also, how long was ithe page sitting on the invoice QR code waiting for confirmation? At checkout it says to not exit or refresh the page until the confirmation comes up, and it can take some time to confirm.

Roger on that. Ok, so when I actually placed the order I was NOT signed into the site at all. I started from this page... https://shopstr.store/listing/naddr1qvzqqqrkcgpzpu4hc4u8gfxgl88kc3yqawvlfgmhpnqxxday7rgmzzd6sjd5vsvnqpqrjvnrxvuxgefj8yekydrzvycnwdn9vcursvrxxqcxyetzxvmrvvnxxpjkvvee8yekzvfsxgcxydm9xvurwef3x5unvvmrx5urgv3hvcs2f8aj ... and then I paid a 60k sat invoice. After I paid the invoice, the invoice did not disappear, meaning perhaps the back end code did not see it as "paid"..... So in this case I might want to reach out to the merchant, which I can do at this "contact seller" URL: https://shopstr.store/orders?pk=npub172mu27r5yny0nnmvgjqwhx055dmsesrrx7j0p5d3pxagfx6xgxfsv75p3q&isInquiry=true ..... When I go to that page, I just see a spinner, no content loads.... seems like it doesn't matter if I a logged in or not....

I am imagining:
- one simple form to list an item
- one simple way to pay
- a full feed / searchable of stuff
- some categories
- a way to check purchase status
Super minimal. No extra stuff.
Maybe NWC as an extra in settings tucked away.

Is is JavaScript you hate, or actually just npm and dependency management?
Lol I hated it the moment I started learning about it back in college 2014. Funny enough, I never really did much with it after that. Avoided it as much as possible.
Please send a DM with the payment receipt on your end to @nprofile…p6g5, he will send it to you!
I've tested it on multiple devices on my end; should be working. It might have been due to some downtime with my hostibg provider or a mobile connection issue, but it's definitely up and running. I can help troubleshoot a bit more if it is still persisting.

That's a fair point, but the armies of lawyers and lobbyists are exactly what make those micropayment transactions economically infeasible at scale, especially if there's not much demand.

Maybe they haven't done it yet because there's too little demand.
Easy to get around regulations if you have armies of lawyers and lobbyists.

If that were the case they would have done it already. This isn't a problem of technical feasibility (they most definitely can support it technically); it's a problem of legal and regulatory feasibility within the existing banking system that leads to high costs on their end, and it's hard to roll back policy. You can even see it now with Visa partnering with Coinbase, Fold, USDC, etc.; they just can't operate within the bounds of the existing regulatory environment to support instant micropayment systems. These companies have to branch out into "crypto" and Bitcoin to compete.

These companies have to branch out into "crypto" and Bitcoin to compete.

idk man, you have some good pointa but it still seems pretty tenuous to me. I think there's lots of things traditional payment rails could to to make it work. And I don't see why they wouldn't

The card processors can't create tailored features because all payments on the internet (that don't rely on PoW and/or have "instant" settlement) require trust, meaning they require minimized credit risk and longer settlement times, meaning they have to take on large fees for all transactions, making small payments infeasible. They HAVE to move over to rails that have at least instant finality, and that's not possible on any fiat rails and won't ever be unless it's as a CBDC or stablecoin.
And I also would argue that agents need the ability to send payments without risk of being censored (users would want any task they send an agent to do to be performed without hindrance) and privately (users might not want other agents or users to know who was paying for a task). And the regulatory arbitrage in this case is just being able to avoid the need deal with all the credit bs of the banking system, so that's baked in.

ok, decent argument
I'm not convinced though. I imagine if any of the problems you're bringing up are real visa or paypal or whoever could easily spin up new features tailored for ai agents. what's stopping them?
imo bitcoin's value as a transaction mediun comes from censorship resistance, regulatory arbitrage, and privacy. agents don't really need any of these

It would take too long for the agent to earn enough money to have a single transaction that could be used to top-up the account; you can't do many micropayments to top-up which is the issue. And on top of that, the whole point of agents is that they can perform menial, small tasks for you to focus on the big stuff, and no one will want to pay an agent $5 for something small, especially if it's not their own agent.
Eventually it will also primarily be agents communicating with agents, and that definitely can't be done with account-based funds at scale with humans expecting the agents to run along on their own doing their thing. It's not that agents need Bitcoin, it's that they need micropayments, it just so happens that Bitcoin makes micropayments easier.

I said it in the note before, just with typos... 😅
Sure, a human can add their account and let the agent do it's thing, but then their has to be manual intervention (human topping up) and that takes away from the agency of the agents; with Bitcoin, if the agent runs lut of funds, it could find ways to earn micro payments and still continue with it's tasks.

I don't see why the agent couldn't earn money and receive it via paypal in exactly the same way. Why does it have to be manual?

I don't see how this could be true. If it's fine for human intelligence why wouldn't artificial intelligence also br able to do the same things (e.g. make accounts with a balance instead of doing everything as micro transactions)

Couldn’t agree more 🙏 I think we did fine with the open-invite group, kept conversation focused and there was already enough to go through with our small group and reached out to others we saw on the network that are building on the same spec ✌️once the draft is out more comments will help reshape.

Be careful about moving to open forum, rather than open-invite, as it can actually raise the hurdle for new entrants by forcing them to perform in front of an audience.

Whats the coolest thing you've bought?
1) It actually is possible because it's often only a couple of people and they tend to make themselves known and you can approach them.
2) The whole point of self-organisation is that the people organizing do so under their own terms. If someone puts down rules of engagement and demands they follow them, then they have a boss.
3) Wake me up, when you aren't doing your best teamwork at conferences, or at an island retreat, both of which almost none of us can attend.
Also actively reaching out to stakeholders we saw appear on Nostr ✌️
Definitely an open channel, just requires an invite for now. I think we should totally scoot out to a more-open forum. Let’s chat about it!
We've been discussing and welcoming input from others, there are various published notes mentioning all of this, even a nostrability issue. It all started with casual conversations about how the existing Nostr marketplace ecosystem wasn't meeting many of the needs for a comprehensive marketplace application. This led us to create a draft proposal, with all the major nostr marketplaces devs now participating. Since the beggining the idea was to open this draft for wider input as soon as possible
should be done in the open.
you can't know all the stakeholders and people who are working on something adjacent to what you're doing if worked in private, unannounced, groups.

I support it. Find good-quality blankets, design some awesome art, work with suppliers to create them, and build a Shopify store (maybe Shopstr @nprofile…p6g5). Shopify has integrations with accounting, inventory management and tax reporting tools that you can use to automate most of that boring work. Then it's all marketing and sales. You can pay us by hitting the zap the devs button, which will already share the profits with all of our devs directly.
If you like the idea, you can pretty much do this for all clients if you want. Most of us are terrible operators for those things.

Yessir; been reviewing scraping policies and the data export structures and it's definitely feasible. The goal would be to have merchants be able to paste in their fiat store's URL and all their products would be posted to Nostr without much effort. Will take some time, but it's in the works!

Yeah that's why gpg never took off on its own, really cryptic UX. I think nostr is better for most things now
yeah it works, but there so much consfusion and little consistency in the way user need to input commands. If you just call in shell "gpg" it start a sort of primitive LLM to ask user what he want to do (and it fails everytime) instead of just print an help and a command list.

Oh yeah, I've read it! I think it's one of the more important books of the modern age; it lays out an actionable guideline to undermine the modern nation-state and organize humans in a more "natural" way. Recognition from other states is the only condition I question, but aside from that it's a really interesting book, even for the historical references that are presented alone.

Just watched @nprofile…p6g5 on @nprofile…9dal and it was a good explanation of where we're at here on Nostr with the marketplaces. Anyone selling products here should give it a watch.

Maybe. We'll see what happens. I really don't care as long as it has strong privacy, is self-custodial, and relatively easy to use.

Got the fix, just adding some additional optimizations and it will be released shortly. Thank you for pointing this out!

Not if the escrow is an ecash mint or a market of agents.
And sure, you can adopt it for those technical reasons, and that is the free market at work, but in the long-run I think it won't hold as a reliable currency for reasons not just tied to privacy. In the future, Monero will probably be utilized as just an intermediate swapping currency (which ecash mints can already act as and in my opinion will evebtually supercede the usage of Monero), but even in that case people don't want to hold it, they want to get rid of it. Cash is a perfect comparison: I use it because it's more private than my credit card, but I don't want to hold it. This is most obviously evident with the XMR/BTC price chart. I'm not arguing that Bitcoin is better at privacy with this point (though, there are ways to make it more private), just that it is better money.

They both have their issues and their workarounds, for sure.
Personally I find Monero easier to understand so I prefer to use it, and as long as there is a non-centralized bridge back and forth between Monero and Bitcoin, I am happy.
Different tools and competition between them is a good thing imo. People will choose as they choose, for their own reasons, and one way or another, they will reap the benefits or suffer the consequences of their own choices.
I think it's harder to ask for anything better than that 👍.

Yeah, I don't look at it in the way that one is better at privacy, so hence the other is bad; it's more of me saying Monero isn't AS good as those who love it say it is either (as we've seen with some evidence of deanonymizong/tracing back transactions), so users of both need to adjust their threat models.
I have other issues with Monero that I believe make it unsuitable for a secure and reliable market currency in the long-run. Free flowing, uncensorable markets should be the default, not just darknet sites for others to search out for, so they must be accessible and have the ability to spread rapidly, which I think LN and ecash allow for more readily (while still preserving privacy, albeit not perfectly) as they are tied to a much better money.

Yes, but that's not what I meant, and I think you know it.
Look at https://nym.com for one example of what could become the golden standard.
Technology progresses, both offensive and defensive. The people who run the DNMs and the people who use them know well that LN is not sufficient, and that's why they don't use it.
This is the free market doing its thing.
Try not to look at this like "XMR rocks baby, LN sucks!", but more like dispassionately observing and acknowledging the facts and adjusting your threat model accordingly.

Lightning uses onion routing.
Tor implemented onion routing, which Lightning copied.
Try reading the Tor whitepaper, it's right there at the beginning what onion routing can't protect you against: a global passive adversary.
A GPA has existed for many years. It's called the NSA.
Onion routing doesn't provide you with the privacy and anonymity you think it does, sorry.

At least from my end, I had to disconnect and reconnect my extension then messages were able to send. There is an issue that the message I send is not showing up automatically, so you have to click off to another page on the site then back to see it; working on fixing rn.

DNMs typically have custodial wallets (the market itself is escrowing funds for the sellers and buyers) so that would make zero difference (this is how markets exit and rug everyone in the first place). You would have the same situation of no privacy from the market for any funds on it.
So DNMs just decided to switch over to a coin with a tiny fraction of Bitcoins liquidity for fun? DNMs had to decide to introduce Monero in the first place out of all the other crypto alternatives out there. They weren't simply doing it because of Greshams law. Strong default privacy in a highly adversarial environment and very cheap transaction fees were the real reasons.

Lightning wouldn't have the same issue in that case because there's no transaction trace on Lightning, but there is on Monero.
Gresham's law only applies in the context of a market that accepts both Monero and Bitcoin (or any other currency). If the option is there to pay in Bitcoin or Monero, most will choose Monero because it's worse to hold. If the only option is Monero, then that doesn't apply.

All DNMs are used for is to deposit or withdraw transactions. No one is using them as their personal wallets. If Lightning was on DNMs it would have the same issue.
If the reason DNMs are adopting something was because of Gresham's Law there would be much better(worse?) crypto to do that with than Monero.
It's the strong default privacy and relative ease of use vs the alternatives.

I wouldn't say worse money, I would say easier to replace.
Monero incentivizes a circular economy because anyone easily can mine it, or buy it from the same places you can with Bitcoin*, and it's more affordable*, it's used as cash more because it has the more cash like principle, lightning feels more credit like in my opinion.
Monero maintains a more reliable price point, and gradually increases overtime typically, so it's more predictable as determination of price.

We've already won the Store Of Value battle. Let's now lead by example of showing that it's also a Medium Of Exchange. 👇

In context, yea. It's nothing more than a trusted party: "I'm gonna give you sats, take good care of them and either release them to the right person or refund me; i'll give you a cut". But yes, tracking these kind of events on nostr will be a good primitive for building up reputation systems!

Alright then.
The prices are actually less on shopstr, by $1. The $21 on shopstr includes the cost of shipping (jerky 2-pack is $12, and shipping $9). Shipping on my site is $10.
You can certainly just zap me another $12 for the 2 pack of Bison here via nostr and I'll send you a new tracking number.
Thanks for understanding. I know all email is inherently insecure. But for now, that's what has been working for me.

Hey, sorry for the trouble. I have had a few problems with shopster as well where merchants are not getting the order. At least it looks like the order came through to you. I think I was about to buy both versions on your website but didn't like the idea of sending LN invoices over email. The prices were higher on shopster so I may have only actually checked out with one. Happy to zap you some more for the bison if you can match the website prices 🙏

I say interesting because that shouldn't be happening unless you're on an outdated version of the site, and web apps should automatically be updating on their own. DMs on Amethyst work on my end and I'd prefer not send images or discuss orders over email as it's not that secure, but I can send you an email if that's what works for you.

It's not interesting. It hasn't worked for me in months. I tried to delete my listings too, back in November because I'm not using it anymore. DMs are crap on just about every nostr app too. Please email me at bjw@ketolish.us and I'll respond.

I have purposely not been promoting my listings at shopstr because it has not been working for me since November and I have everything set up on my website already.

This would just be due to either the relays you posted your listings to having deleted the events or the listings you posted being older than 2 weeks. If they're older than two weeks and they haven't been deleted by your relays, you should be able to click 'load more' a few times and they'll come up.
