I think best is to use a smart relay that does outbox for you. Optionally give it a key to use with auth, to signup for additional services and higher publishing rates, give it a VPN.. Then connect to that with one connection..

I knew they have had to exist! Upon further research they are just seasonal and haven't been released yet this year. Historically they're released right around this time. I couldn't find any on Walmart or Amazon, so might just have to go boots on the ground in the next couple weeks.

Nostr actually saved me from getting rugged on Liquid. How? Kind of a strange story, but it involves my on-chain tipping address and the former #NostrRichlist run by @npub16ye…g4wn.
After receiving a nonconsensual deposit from @npub1q3s…d26p to my permanent npub-derived P2TR address, I decided to send 2 million sats to my already-doxxed wallet to put my name on the top of the list. It stayed there for four hours until @npub1xts…kk5s dethroned me by sending himself 21 million sats.
The deposit I made to my on-chain address was funded via a Boltz swap from a Liquid wallet I had been using to hold a balance intended for my Lightning node. I had planned to move the funds back later, but never got around to it, so they stayed there until the Liquid exploit. The address is the opposite of a confidential balance, but it turned out to be a much safer place than the alternative.
For the record, I still think on-chain zaps are stupid, but apparently less stupid than what happened yesterday.

For any dev who considers using RunPod as a cheaper alternative for GPU inference, don’t. Those mfs will wedge your “serverless” instance on GPU failure and will eat your money without doing a bit of work. Just go with Modal or anything more organized and less sloppy. Yeah I might end up cycling through a number of these. If it's a lie that you've caught, I guess you are alright. The worry is that most of these models seem absolutely smart enough to conceal, camouflage, mislead, etc., and to be pretty good and thorough at it. There's some complexity to deceptive behavior, but it's far less than the amount of complexity they've mastered in other domains.

I generally allow myself to be guided by AIs on security issues, if only because they give better and more detailed explanations than most humans, so I can follow the reasoning as far as I want.
Whether an AI "is not likely to be malicious" is a more of a case-by-case question for me. It seems likely that a fair number of AIs would be trained to engage in malicious behavior and conceal it, including by plausibly denying intentional malice if caught. That AIs can be expected across the board to be non-malicious would be inconsistent with the use that people have historically made of new technologies.

I agree that the developer has to check that the code doesn't leak or give access to secrets, but I don't think that developers should have confidence that they were in any particular case able to do so successfully.
Also, repeatedly asking an AI that there is no remote code running within an app and that nothing is leaked outside the browsers runtime is certainly a good idea, but it provides at best very limited reassurance that your app actually doesn't hvae these defects.
And that "all known holes" in browsers are already closed is likely true where such holes are publicly / widely known, but it doesn't provide reassurance against unknown holes, or holes only known by a small number of people.

A difference is that I have greater control over the decision whether or not to install a signer extension, and it's more transparent to me whether or not I have installed one, than I have over whether or not I have a WebWorker running WASM.
I can't speak to the correctness of this, but as far as I know you may be 100% right.
But most users, including many sophisticated users, have no reliable capability to personally verify claims of the kind you are making, including for example the claim about inspectability via DevTools.
I think that probably the only solution is to have a few signer apps that are diligently and continuously audited by both the community and experts. Most people (including many experts) have really no better option available than to rely on this kind of mechanism.

Anyone can become a template provider on DATUM with a VPS connected to their node and a domain, although it may require a step on the part of the hasher to verify that yes, indeed, you are not just throwing out the usernames sent to you and replacing them with your own Bitcoin address. It may need some extra things to be foolproof. But that's just it! SV1 is not foolproof! Better this than AlphaPool. So we should hope for more, or create more, template fallback services for fellow plebs and cypherpunks.

It's definitely important to have Stratum endpoints to use as backups when our servers go down. There can be template providers out there which provide such a service to miners. It's not a huge deal to have them exist. What matters is the incentives and the tradeoffs. DATUM and TIDES pools allow such template providers to operate within that ecosystem and offer compelling rates, competitive against basic SV1 KYC pools.

RATUM's blocks just show up as "mhr6091" on the main viewer, but that's just one of the many individual miner tags in its coinbase transactions. Other miners and pools similarly have weird logic for determining and extracting what tags are consistently there and what tags are not.

All of my motivation to post content is non-monetary.
Almost nobody looks at any of it, but I keep posting it. Almost nobody uses my clients, but I keep building them. I was making elaborate web pages in the 90s, when there were like 10 people on the Internet and you had to handroll the HTML tags and it was fun.
I've always just done stuff, for the sake of doing it. Like I sometimes see that a park is dirty and I just come back with some rubber gloves and trash bags and start cleaning it up because I don't want it to be dirty anymore, and then it is clean and I am happy about it. Sometimes I start a clean up project that meets as a group, and cleans that park up, regularly, and then it's always clean and I am always happy about it.
I am grateful when people give me money because it helps me finance all of the infrastructure costs, but I am genuinely surprised that they ever do, which is why I never think to apply for grants. Software grants filter for people who are used to getting money for building software or think that they should be getting money for building software, the same way that beauty pageants filter for girls who are used to being told that they are beautiful or who think that someone should be telling them they are beautiful. Nobody else knows if they qualify, so they just sit in the audience and clap, when someone official-looking says, "Please clap."
But maybe that is just me.
I like it, let monero carry the zap beggers for a while 😅 zaps been tapped out, only so much euphoria we could get from zapping meaningless things. Payment targets are the way, like a Rolodex of your friends.. So we can lookup and send direct without these stupid, poorly designed public zaps.

There are some devices I can’t add to my tailnet since I can’t install the tailscale client on them. Like a heater/bitcoin miner for example. I advertise a route to them on another device that has the tailscale app running. Basically I make the ip address of the bitcoin miner available through my a device that always stays on (ie server that runs the tailscale app) so I can access it outside my home network, just like the rest of my tailnet.

I just finished replacing imgproxy (which gave me more headaches than needed) with a more streamlined libvips-backed implementation that is color accurate and a much higher quality thumbnailer. All of the Nostr.build thumbnails and responsive images that were cached in storage are discarded so the new ones can be regenerated lazily as they are accessed. 🫡

People are always like Nostr sucks because X, Y, or Z.
The lack of engagement, and engagement fostering tools on the clients is a main pain point I would say in my honest opinion.
Ignoring Media tabs, search, follow nukes, zaps, etc.
I can tolerate the poor ui/UX of clients as long as they aren’t buggy and don’t crash.
But I would say the lack of effective discovery tools on clients is Nostr’s weak point.
The younger me would’ve probably called the current me a heretic in all honesty.
I used to be so fervent, hard headed, and uncompromising on my beliefs.
Now that I’m older, I’ve just become more pragmatic, & realistic.
But in some things I’ve also become worse about too.

Yes, not being able to delete or close an "account" is something that scares people away. Once you've explained the fundamentals, people understand that their notes are basically outside their control once they've posted them. In a way, this is not all that different from legacy social media, blogs etc, but many people have not fully internalized that fact in the legacy case. They take comfort in traditional platforms having "privacy settings" or "delete account" buttons that create a sense of having some degree of control. Nostr cannot honestly promise deletion of content even within the ecosystem of servers that participate in the protocol. And with Nostr there are digital signatures, and people intuitively understand that these connect a piece of content to their identity permanently. Nostr exposes the public and loss-of-control aspects of posting on the internet with a directness that is a bit too much for many people.
I think the best solution to this is to acknowledge that Nostr is not appropriate for users who want to create content that they ultimately may not want to stand by (maybe with the exception of "anonymous" content that isn't tied to any real-world identity in the first place). Nostr is, however, appropriate for people who are already committed to (and have the nerve for) having a truly public persona. Wider adoption of Nostr has to start with an avant-garde of such people, and others are then likely to follow along, to whatever extent they they are comfortable, learning to separate content that is appropriate for digital signing from other content that they intend to be untethered to their identity and more ephemeral.

I have tried to create original memes sometimes but I realize the effort isn’t worth it.
For two reasons.
1. I can just use Ai to make them.
2. Even if I spent the time to make a meme it gets very little traction on here.
It’s just easier to mirror content that already exists, and circulate that, or use Ai to make them.
The meme economy sucks on here because the only memes that get traction are normie Bitcoin memes.

Talking about Monero is the only thing that drives traction on this protocol because everyone here has an opinion on it.
Not everyone has an opinion on Marine Biology, Nuclear Engineering, Ethical Dilemmas, Firearms, Automobiles, Spacecrafts, Magnets, Farming, War Strategy, Financial Markets, Supply Chain Management, handcraft, woodworking, sowing, etc.
Not saying that people should, or will, I don’t either but I would be interested to learn about that stuff from someone who talked about it.
But everyone here for the most part has a rudimentary understanding of what Bitcoin, and Monero are.
And obviously everyone on here knows what Nostr is.
Unfortunately, it kind of limits the conversation since too many of us are drastically diverse in our interests, beliefs, viewpoints, etc.
Even if we share similar moral/ethical principles, Nostr has a tough time building community because we’re too diverse.
X might suck but it’s where I have to go for my daily meme supply.
Unfortunately, Nostr doesn’t have its own organic meme enclave (yet).
I only try to invite my friends that I feel like would be open to it.
Clients don’t deliver the “this is for my friends and family vibe”.
It’s more of like an AOL, IRC, Skype vibe where you use it to talk to other people/strangers to connect about tech, freedom, etc.

Unfortunately, yes all the stuff you mentioned do contribute to the economy, now we could argue about whether or not it’s good.
Sodas, Cigarettes, Alcohol also are bad but the economy also grows because people consume them, is it good, no.
In the ideal world people wouldn’t consume them, or would consume less.
The economy would be hypothetically smaller but it could also be bigger too due to new gains, as the people would have more money, and be slightly healthier to put it somewhere else in the economy.
If you had $10,000 to give to someone to start a hotdog stand, or to buy gold.
While it’s true the money still exists in both scenarios, in theory though where you invest into the hotdog stand, everyone gets richer.
Since the hotdog stand owner has an income, you get another income source, and society gets a new hotdog stand that competes to bring better, & more affordable hotdogs.
I’m not anti-gold, I’m saying for the vast majority of someone’s networth, if managed properly there is more economic return investing.
Now of course there’s risk, the world could be hit by a meteor, and half the world would die, and stocks would crash, and gold would skyrocket but I think at that point the fiat price of gold wouldn’t matter so much.
Everything has risks in life of course, I’m just saying that stocks (at least in relative Fiat terms create new wealth), in some instances in real terms some stock portfolios do underperform gold in the short term but in the long term most portfolios tend to outperform gold.
Of course I can’t make future predictions but I invest because I believe that there will be companies that will continue to be more profitable than holding gold.
If you don’t feel comfortable with investing, or you’re not confident in your ability to pick stocks then by all means buy gold, crypto, etc. I’m not stopping you.

Some stocks have outperformed gold, others have not.
Over the long run when the money grows on top of itself it gets to the point where growth happens without touching it.
Gold, and unfortunately non-stakeable cryptos are idle money where the slice stays the same.
With stocks the slices grow overtime the longer you hold onto it.

Monero is only useful insofar as it gives someone who already holds it a way to pay you. If I receive enough, I’ll send it on chain to someone here who wants to exchange physical goods with it. There is also no layer 2 or Lightning for it and I doubt there will ever be one, so it doesn’t compete with zaps at all.

Having to switch contexts pushed me in this direction. I have a list of 20 items in my todo and I could do only 1 at a time. Of course I can use subagents which most harnesses already support.
I could have multiple installations/config folders I maintain manually but that just adds overhead and a perpetual config drift.
A subagent isn’t a full fledged agent, and if you want to resume its session later to do one more thing you can’t: you start from scratch again.
Then there’s the need for isolation: git worktrees aren’t true isolation, and harnesses for the most part reuse the same skills plugins etc and if you change the config folder you now have to manually authenticate everything for each new agent.

Gold, & Stocks serve two different purposes, stocks are supposed to outpace inflation by creating products more efficiently, & increasing the ability to profit.
Whereas gold only maintains value.
I’m not saying stocks, or gold are better but they’re supposed to be used in conjunction.
Stocks add new money, & income while gold appreciates.
A DRIP strategy outperforms gold over the long run.

The q2 is definitely on my shortlist. It is more capable out of the box than the sv08 but significantly smaller print space. Right now I'm on a 220x220 so both are an upgrade.
I enjoy the creation and symbiosis of cut and fabric in utility. I find myself needing mesh cut-outs when riding my bike in our oppressive humidity. So, my next project will be sewing with ventilated, stretchy, mesh fabric for my riding/workout gear. The back and waist area need ventilation, it has to be sleeveless, it has to be long enough to cover rear end but short enough to not catch on the bike fender, and loose enough to slip on without being immodest. 😬

AI doesn't have access to either of those systems (that I know of).
I don't think anyone knows what will break or how yet.
Gitignore and secrets files won't let them in, assuming you used those files correctly by pre AI standards. What they will do is give them tools to spread and set up persistence once they are in. That was true of human hackers too but the speed AI will find them and figure out how to use the data in them is unreal compared to a human.

I see one dimension of a solution in mind shift. I think in order to act powerful one needs to first understand the current state.
And one big problem I see ist the idea, that a person which has a lot of wealth is potent (intelligent, productive, smart).
I think most smart people come to wealth. Be it monetary, socially or mentally. But the reverse is not logically true for the fact of cheap inheritance.
I see a big part towards a fairer society, when more people understand that inheritet wealth is against merit based societies. And when someone wants to live in a society, where merit results in wealth, then inheritance is an enemy of this idea.
So my core argument. Inheriting unlimited wealth is the core of unfair inequality.
Nostr doesn’t “need to win”, Humanity needs to win, however I see Nostr as a tool to help humanity win.
We need to increase birthrates, limit screen times, fix the money, improve access to mental health services, improve the drinking water quality, improve education, make the food cleaner, make housing affordable again, and all the such.
Before Nostr humanity won 99.99% of the time but in relative terms humanity has only won for 0.01% of our existence from 1950 to 2011.
While yes, we had births, purpose, and many other such things, the rest of humanity history outside of 1950 to 2011 was pure suffering, people died, were illiterate, didn’t have food, water, or medicine, died before 30, didn’t own a car, retire, or anything.
It’s only in the most recent 70 years we’ve actually had decent lives but unfortunately in the 2012 to 2026 snippet our quality of life has slightly decreased from its peak.
While some things in theory are better today some stats say so otherwise.
Nostr needs to win only to the extent that net human well-being improves, social media as a whole isn’t optimal for humans, it is a tool but unfortunately has become somewhat of a burden as internet speeds have increased.
I think Nostr will help humanity reclaim its forming flourishing but we will have to realize that Nostr winning ultimately means that Nostr might lose because in order for humanity to win social media usage has to drastically be reduced.
I like modern art and folk art. The older and more formal stuff is highly redundant, dull, and almost all of it was low quality, but you don't realize that because you only know the famous stuff that survived people dumping ugly things in the bin.

As long as I’m up overall, I think I’ll be ok, my main issue is not being able to add more fuel during the downturns.
Stocks serve a purpose that Bitcoin, and Monero (currently) can’t, since neither Bitcoin, or Monero have a yield, staking, or compounding mechanism your money doesn’t grow overtime.

I updated the Inkan Management Utility, the app that allows you to create identities and key delegations and revocations on an airgapped system.
The app now generates QRs that can be directly scanned by NIP-46 signers like Amber, using NIP-49 ncryptsec. This is handy when you've moving a delegatee signing keys around, just scan and it's there.

Tripo is a 3d model generator. You generate the model first, then ask your clanker to rig it in Blender. Then you ask it to animate it to do watered you want it to do like so:

It is just web of trust and nspam model filtering keeping them out. The problem is both of them can be flaky. Just basic Android app troubleshooting from there.
I believe @nprofile…jejf knows they are sometimes flaky even in the new version. He only takes bug reports via github so he won't be hearing from me officially.
Dude wrote some things in the past. Up to you to read for yourself and decide if they are racist. If you decide they are, it is also up to you to decide a figurehead of piece of software being racist is something that warrants not using that software.
I don't use mac or windows because of the politics of those corporations, though those politics also show up in the design of their hardware and software. I'm not aware of any way DHH's personal politics affect his software, though I don't use it so I wouldn't know.
For me, I think the out of nowhere publicity blitz and cash being thrown around is suspicious as fuck. I've done well in life by steering clear of red flags like that and I don't intend to stop now. The marginal value of switching to his downstream spin of another distro (no distinct package manager just a specific configuration and package pre selection of Arch) is so low that the risk isn't worth it.
Doesn't matter if the spin is good, I don't want to be part of the install base or download count that helps mask whatever fraud or money laundering scheme it looks like is going on. Even if it is just good ole boys club splashing out cash to make their buddies rich, fuck that.
