You're right to point that out but if I were a Christian, I would write that off to myself as Jesus and the Apostles condescending to the people of their time by letting harmless myths remain untouched.
That's why I went a step further. Even if you can make that compromise, Genesis itself is an incoherent book unless it's taken as a literal history from beginning to end. It's **also** an allegory, meant to be understood as a prototype for later events, but the genealogies bind it to literal history. It's meant to be both.
But it can't be, because we have archeological finds older than the creation of the universe if that's true.
The only possible resolution is a rejection of Genesis, and everything built on it, as anything more than an interesting piece of mythology.

Even if you have a theoretical justification for changing the hermeneutic, it won't hold up to internal critique of Genesis itself, because the structure of the book is explaining is where the various people groups (especially in the ancient Near-East) came from. Every major story ends with a new major nation being founded, and that traces back genealogically to Abraham, the Tower of Babel, and before.
If the creation timeline is an allegory, the genealogies in Genesis aren't real, and the entire justification for anyone's possession of the land evaporates, and along with it, the vast majority of the conflicts and prophecies of the Old Testament.
If you throw away the literal creation timeline, you throw away the entire Bible.

I don't know if Jesus was God, but if he was, and his mission was to unify the world into a single hierarchy, he would have done something very like what the New Testament claims he did. He is the myth of the king in its highest possible instantiation. If it's a myth, it's amazing that primitive people were able to conceive of it. No one **today** could conceive of it if we didn't already have it.
My main gripe is just that the world wasn't unified. In many ways it got better, but in many ways it also got worse, and the idea that we have to wait for a return for the effects to magically come into being doesn't make a whole lot of sense, unless the 2nd Coming is nothing more than a metaphor for the sacraments, then there might be something to it.
I've been a Christian too, though, and the sacraments don't actually do anything, much to the chagrin of trads. Maybe they cause some kind of psychological effect, but no one who participates in them is changed, they're still the exact same assholes they were before they went in, so I have a hard time with that interpretation too.

You're describing how things are, but not why. There's no particular reason things should be that way. You have to take St. Augustine's theory of ontology for this to work, where there are ontological goods grounded in God (or something like a God) that things fall further into dysfunction as they move away from.
It's a similar problem to "Why is there something instead of nothing?"
Whatever the precondition for being is, it has to account for this structure. It can't just be because it is, unless you want to say being itself is God.

Paul provides important context, his experience with Christ is clearly something akin to what became the Merkabah tradition, the universal mystical experience of the ancient prophets in that region, but a lot of that context is lost by the early Christians. People are only making the connections recently because we finally have old jewish and Christian literature for cheap and in the same language.
Anti-semites won't like this, but you really do need judaism to understand what's going on in a lot of the New Testament, even though it's also true that the two schools disagree on some fundamentals, the Church Fathers, even the earliest ones, are missing so much context right away.
I looked into Buddhism seriously but the problem I found with it is that it can't account for transcendental goods, neither can Stoicism.
Why do patterns converge on complexity even when it shouldn't. Fundamental patterns are more likely to replicate and survive. Why are there universal positives that every being, even non-thinking ones, work toward?
Whatever the precondition for the world is has to account for these things, and it has to do so at scale, from planets to life to atoms, and below even that. Emptiness philosophies do not account for hierarchy in nature.
I love a lot of things about Stoicism and Zen insofar as they're useful personal philosophies, but their accounting for universals is their weakness.

I don't think they slander the true God because the true God isn't bound by an identity. YHWH and Allah and Brahman have different attributes but they're talking about the same conceptual being, even if they accuse the other names of being frauds. It's a case where the designators are flacid.
I think Christianity and Judaism (and even Islam, though its *so* disorganized and detached from history that I have to parenthesize it) are good in their symbolic representation of the world. The idea that the way to world peace is for the highest possible king to commit the highest possible human sacrifice is undeniably true, because that is how history progresses. A king performs a mass human sacrifice to create an empire, and the world stabilizes and advances in the aftermath. That king often ascends to godhood too, or at least legend. Even though I don't like it, the death of all other gods fits perfectly into this pattern.
Christian saints like Ephraim the Syrian do describe the perceived world as it's integrated with mythical thinking with near 100% accuracy, and Kabbalah (insofar as I can tell, bc a lot of the texts are untranslated) is legitimately the best symbolism for explaining metaphysical categories ever created, which is why there are still a minority of Christian Kabbalists in the Catholic Church to this day despite it being a foreign tradition.
I legitimately don't know what to make of how well it represents the world, Christianity is almost a perfect worldview, my only real contention with it right now is that it failed. World peace didn't happen, we've still had to have smaller kings come and do human sacrifice the old way to keep ourselves going. Christians (and sort of Muslims though the details are different) have the cope that the fulfillment of that comes during his return at the end of the world, but that raises so many plausibility issues about the specifics of what Christ and the early Christians taught. It seems like they had this amazing archetypal revelation, and thought it was going to manifest in their lives, but it didn't, and now we have to sit around and cope in the meantime. Same with Muslims since they basically inherit that same eschatology, with a few things added.
Jews don't have this incompleteness problem but they also don't have such a perfect archetype in the "Christ as God" figure.
So Idk. I'm at a loss for what to make of it. I think if Origen and Gregory of Nyssa's school of thought had won in the Church and the jews had maintained a better relationship with the Christians throughout history instead of backstabbing us at every turn, we'd have a somewhat shared tradition here that made a lot more sense.
