Is the West just myths, or is the West philosophy?
The philosophers hated poetry, so there's a split tradition there, and Western philosophy wasn't fully developed until the Neoplatonists refuted Gnosticism and fully exposited Plato, which you can date roughly at the 4th or 5th Century.
