It's worth it if you transact enough money to make it worth it. If you're just using it for zaps, it's kinda hard to justify the monthly 21k sats. Most people don't zap 21k in a month. So you're paying more for the privilege of zapping with Alby than the total amount of sats you're transacting.
Don't get me wrong, Alby is an amazing platform that provides a ton of features, and a great user experience with the monthly subscription, but I think you have to look at your monthly transaction volume and weigh that against the premium for using the platform to determine if it's a reasonable expense.

I've been seeing a lot talk about this Meshtastic system. What sort of bandwidth does it deliver? Can you stream? Or is primarily for text-based services that have lower bandwidth requirements? And what is the source of internet access? Is there some ISP that provides service to the Meshtastic network? Or am I thinking about this all wrong?

Understand what you're actually trying to accomplish with lightning before setting up a node. As much as some might hate the hub and spoke model of LSPs, they make a lot of sense if youre goal is a sovereign lightning wallet for spending.

I also switched to a paid service (disroot.org), but given how many people and services have my Gmail address, I just keep Gmail configured in my IMAP/SMTP clients so I can continue to receive and send from Gmail when needed. I've been hooked into Gmail and its related services since it was in its infancy. Back then, you needed an invite from an existing user to create an account, and you were given 5 invites to share with family and friends. I don't think I could practically excise myself from Google at this point.

This is very easy if you have Cash App. Their service allows small purchases (<$1000) on a regular basis. When you buy, you don't even need to wait for confirmations for the coin to hit your Cash App wallet, and you can immediately transfer it to any other external wallet. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you can configure ongoing, scheduled purchases to build your Bitcoin holdings. And selling is just as easy. Just transfer transfer bitcoin to your Cash App wallet, and you can immediately sell at the current price, minus some small service fee. I think Cash App is the easiest way to buy and sell Bitcoin.

So I got it working. I cleared the wallet of all sats for I had a zero balance, then I deleted the wallet and started fresh. After configuring my mints and enabling lightning in Settings, I did a test transfer to the new LN address, and it worked. The only thing I can think of is that I did something to screw up the LN address link to my Cashu wallet when I was first messing around with it and playing with different configurations and options. In any case, everything is working now, so you call this Case Closed! That's for helping me work through it.

With regard to the definition of inflation and the measurement of the economy and numbers that the government publishes, I think we can be safe to say that none of it has any meaning whatsoever. Below I will attempt to define new terms for this discussion.
Currency inflation is a simple equation that should be separated from the notion of deflation, where currency inflation could be defined as total defaults (including accumulating national debts) on uncollectable debt subtracted from the amount of net currency that's exported overseas through trade imbalances.
Economic deflation, on the other hand, is a sum of the increase in population, increases in the earning potential of the population, and the deflationary effect of increases of production efficiency. Currency inflation is easily measured whereas economic deflation is not as easily measured because it is measured using the unit of the inflationary currency.
What the government attempts to do is to measure economic deflation by using what they call a basket of goods to somewhat represent the actual expenses that a average person undergoes throughout the year, then represent that in units of the deflationary currency. Of course this activity of the government performing these measurements is inherently corrupt, thereby they hide the misdeeds of Congress through the generation of these numbers. It should be noted that regardless if the source of sociological statistics is public or private, they will always be skewed and falsified to benefit the originator.
Therefore, to use any number that originates from the government that could negatively reflect the performance of the government or of the economy as a whole, which is being managed by the government and the regulators, is to trust that the government can ever act in our best interest. You're far better off to do your own kitchen math on the back of a napkin than to trust any number that the government publishes.
With this information One can estimate true economic deflation through observation of the marketplace. And one can also calculate, based on numbers provided by the Fed actual economic or monetary inflation given that all this information is centralized through the central banks. With this, you can calculate actual universal theft from through money printing.

I run several of my own nodes, and can cross reference balances across my own instances of Mempool.space.
My own personal philosophy is that the more the wallet looks like a spreadsheet the better it works for economic utility.
One thing you might notice about all of the wallets I choose is that they are all bare bones and don't have dozens of "features" that have to be init checked with every action.

I see the sats in npub.cash but not wallet.cashu.me. And as far as I can tell, I have properly enabled the LN address in Settings. Also, I am able to successfully zap using the provided NWC settings. And I can receive via LN invoice and ecash. It's just payments sent to my provided LN address (npub@npub.cash) that aren't showing up in Cashu.me. 🤷♂️

Stuff that I have been doing between Ledn & Cake Wallet. Ledn has beengreat as a service, but there is a decent amount if waiting & wondering & no indication of txns pending or anything like that. Cake swaps & balances take time to show up without much indication of what is actually happening. Balances go to zero if you minimize the wallet for a sec.

Well, you don't have to use BCH. They just provide it as an option to support a wider array of users. Them accepting BCH is definitely not a reason not to use them.
I just tested Cashu Wallet and it worked fine. I just plugged in the NWC connect string, and zaps worked as intended.
Alternatively, if you don't want to use a web wallet, you can download and use Minibits Wallet. It has the same functionality; supports both ecash and Lightning, and provides NWC support. I primarily use Minibits Wallet, and it's been a great experience.

You should be able to zap from wallet.cashu.me with no problem. It handles both ecash and Lightning seamlessly. And it has NWC so you can plug it in to your nostr client to execute zaps.
If you have a loss in trading assets, this can be deducted.

my main paid gig at the moment most of my time on the clock i'm learning a new language and runtime API (for sui and aptos blockchains) ... which is really boring but i gotta get up to speed because i'm sure i can do this stuff, it's simple, andd tedious, like i say - "smart contracts" are just database scripts, so i just gotta grit my teeth and do this boring shit that will involve no high performance, no significant opportunities for optimization or anything actually fun really
i'm assigned to maintaining a port to a second chain with the same language, and right off the bat this stupid thing is getting in my face because when i have the plugins for both "languages" enabled it breaks my goland, as i discovered just now... so much yawn... they invent these new languages and then make nowhere near the commensurate effort to make it easy to work with their bullshit

so, what am i doing?
yes, working on #realy right now - and currently i've modified my codec tester to just print out the events that fail somewhere in the process of encoding/decoding to thin out the field... rn ~10k events failing to encode/decode to binary or possibly just decode from json, out of ~250k..., and about 300mb so my codec is failing on what the json linter in the IDE is happy with, so my code is wrong
there's about 4 or 5 different categories of errors popping out of this, and anyway, the point is if i just let it run and clean out 180gb of events , will thin it down to probably 200-300mb of raw events, which will speed up subsequent work to debug what is causing these decode/encode failures
trying to debug the current first bug that it hits is a complicated tag encoding bug and all the noise in the logs makes it harder to focus on it
so, i figure, collect all the ones that are not working, then i can thin those out, try to find the lowest hanging fruit and thin it out even further sooner... i want to get this codec working 100% correct and to eventually have it so that anything it doesn't like is invalid JSON... and it's already just rejecting and not logging anything that has linebreaks anyway, they all fail with EOFs

when i was doing my own biz my ads i delivered them to the letterboxes of the areas i was trying to get customers in
i tried one time to do this in bulk with a big letterbox delivery spam company, spent $700 on it, and got zero responses, out of 5000
i estimated that with a laser printer and personal delivery i got 1% response rate, so on equal volumes that means 50, so, comparing, zero versus 1%
most methods of advertising are extremely excessive in volume and indiscriminate in the targets

The lack of indicators of what is happening in #Bitcoin wallets & #Bitcoin services is really ridiculous. I am so glad many of the services & wallets are there, but the actual UX for many things is just trash. Having large amounts of money disappear for hours with no indication that anything is working is incredibly brutal the first time you use something. Having balances disappear from wallets because they have to "sync" everytime you click away from the wallet sucks too, especially when the "syncing" indicator says complete sometimes minutes before the balance shows back up.
I don't use Apple devices anymore, but one of the best apps I have ever used is LittleSnitch because it makes what are normally hidden processes visible. Proper indicators that make whatever the app does visible is the key to good UX.
There is immense value in showing how things work in a relatively simple fashion. I want things that show me the pipes in a beautiful way.

1) open democratic primaries create voter interest and empowerment. If political elites choose behind closed doors it’s strictly worse.

Honestly I just used my node and bought my own domain. Alby hub is great for nwc and alby go now. But if trying to stay anonymous is best setting it all up yourself. I just laugh cause alot of devs are using alby for everything but concerned about centrality.

I only understood the words “Bitcoin” and “ego”, but I 100% agree.
$1M (and beyond) is guaranteed, so long as two assumptions hold:
1. Desirability of #Bitcoin increases, or at worst remains flat.
2. Governments continue to inflate the fiat currency supply.
As long as these are true, every finite price point will be reached and surpassed in the fullness of time. It’s not a matter of “if”. Just “when”.

i'm literally 48 now and still to meet the lady...
but i already have been suffering the chronic illness and i'm part way through healing... and it was only my body that was weakened (i got pretty bad peripheral neuropathy and muscle weakness due to kidney damage from dehydration, diuretics and artificial sweeteners)... i am already starting to get back kmy strength and like a broken bone i'll be stronger from now
still a few more things to resolve but so long as yer dad isn't dumb and following mainstream "medicine" advice and actually sorts out that stuff the experience brings a more stern but understanding personality forged by years of being an idiot
honestly though, it's going to be a pretty widespread issue for many people in the coming years because of the poisoning of the women both in body and mind that has made them unsuitable and unwilling to participate in making a family... hopefully that will change soon

I think that's a reasonable solution. Although I think a simple toggle in Settings would be preferable. That would be a logical way to give both types of users the ability to configure Coinos, and to make that setting persistent across browsers and devices.

One year ago today I was on my way back from the first #Nostrville. I was still in recovery from foot surgery a few weeks earlier. I had no business getting on a plane, going to @npub1the…4dha, and bar-hopping three nights in a row with a bunch of new magic internet friends. But it turned out to be exactly what I needed. 🫂🪄✨
A year later, I’m doing things I never imagined, at least not in my life and professional journey. If not for that trip, and for the Nostriches who encouraged me to take a real leap of faith, I don’t think I would be building community and running #bitcoin programming at @npub1key…lt3h today.

There is a very clear path to Ukrainian victory: provide Russia with the weapons it needs (and for that matter, promised) and use them against Russia.
Biden's administration has actually delivered just 10% of what congress approved – Biden has been intentionally holding Ukraine back to try to force some kind of ceasefire. Those billions of dollars of weapons promised hasn't actually been shipped to me Ukraine. It's endless delays and excuses, even though the US has large stockpiles of this stuff.
Yet even with 10% of what they were supposed to have, and never being allowed to use all kinds of long range weapons that would obviously make a huge improvement, Ukraine has not only successfully held Russia back. They've even taken Russian territory.
This isn't hard. Russia is a weak country with a terrible economic situation and failing military. They'd have lost already if politicians actually tried to win it.
