Back in 2017, I had the physique I wanted, but something was missing.
That December, I discovered Bitcoin, and by January 2018, I started stacking SATs.
Just like with fitness, the key to success is consistency and patience—both wealth and health grow with compounding effects over time.
In both pictures, I have a lean, athletic physique, but fast forward to today, and I’ve gained nearly 20 pounds of muscle while staying just as lean.
How?
By focusing on the 8 pillars of wellness: sleep, nutrition, movement, stress management, relationships, mindset, purpose, and environment.
Here’s what I do to age gracefully and maximize longevity:
💤 7-9 hours of quality sleep every night. No caffeine 8 hours before bed. No alcohol.
🏋️‍♂️ Strength training 2-4x a week with a mix of weights, calisthenics, and running. Full range of motion, explosive concentrics, slow eccentrics, and isometric holds for every exercise. A 5 minute at-home body weight workout is better than none at all.
🍽 85% whole foods, home-cooked or prepared by someone I trust, hitting my caloric goals whether bulking or cutting. I eat out but typically make choices that are aligning with my goals and I don't eat a lot of sweets.
🧘‍♂️ Stretching morning and evening to maintain mobility and decrease aches & pains. I practice gratitude and write/say affirmations in the morning then I meditate for 5 minutes at night
Consistency in fitness and in Stacking SATs pays off.

When you're focused on fitness, every meal counts.
Here's a quick, nutritious meal that hits all the right marks.
I marinated some chicken thighs before heading out and hit the gym.
When I got back, I tossed them in the air fryer for 25 minutes at 400°F—no oils needed, saving thousands of calories.
While I took a shower, the chicken was cooking to perfection.

Instead of drastic changes, make smart swaps to begin your fitness journey.
Instead of parking as close to the store as possible, Make it a point to park at the back of the parking lot for a few extra steps.
Choose lower calorie options for your snacks and try to consume a fist sized amount of protein with each meal.
Take breaks from sitting for more than 30 minutes By walking in place near your desk.
Challenge yourself to take the stairs at every opportunity.
Prioritize your sleep because of lack of sleep dysregulate your hormones and will make you feel stressed out with an insatiable appetite.

When is it beneficial to gain fat?
During a bulk.
A bulk is when one consumes an excess of 200 to 500 calories per day, prioritizes a minimum amount of protein (0.8-1 gm/lb bodyweight), and gets 7 to 9 hours of sleep in order to add muscle mass and gain strength.
After the muscle is built, then the body uses a higher number of calories at rest.
That means you get/have to eat more.
The body turns carbohydrates into glucose.
Glucose is the preferred energy system of the body when engaging in high intensity efforts like running or weightlifting.
Glucose must be converted into glycogen and stored in the liver but more importantly, in skeletal muscle.
That means the more muscle that you have will burn more calories and you'll have more energy for high intensity activities that will burn even more calories.
A caloric surplus is what makes you fat and not the carbohydrates.
Take the time to learn about macronutrients and where calories come from in order to structure your days of eating that align with your goals.

It's a lifestyle.
Wake up- stretch, hydrate, write in my gratitude journal and down a protein shake.
Reach out to clients, respond to DMs, and be social on social media.
Creative work, schedule posts, and edit content.
Complete a workout at the gym, workout park, and or go for a jog/sprint then eat a meal.
Study for my nutrition certification, hospital pharmacy protocols, and continuing education.
Eat dinner then make sure I'm in bed so that I get 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep.
Every day is a little different but I make it a point to take the stairs, eat mostly whole foods, break up long periods of sitting with squats, lunges, or push-ups.
I don't keep up with the price of Bitcoin but I use it to save for the future.

I had a flat tire after the Bitcoin Day Miami on Saturday.
It was a bummer no doubt but I was grateful that I had the tools needed and it wasn't raining.
Maybe I parked in a bad place and got a nail in my tire, maybe my tires should have been replaced sooner, but none of that mattered, so I focused on what I needed to do to get my girlfriend and I off the side of the turnpike.
Setbacks are bound to happen and when they do try not to let your mind get clouded in negativity but rather focus on how to get out of the situation and how to prevent it in the future.

I prefer to intermittent fasting myself but it's not for everyone because it may lead some people to overeat because they are too hungry.
If you fall in that group then try to consume whole foods because they are more satiating, especially protein.
But sometimes we don't always have time to prepare a well balanced, nutritious meal, so in that instance, I'll usually have a protein shake to start my day. That way, I'm not starving by lunch time.

All three points are equally important because if you're not recovering then you're likely not getting the full benefits from strength training and even if you're not working out you're still suffering from dysregulated hormonal balance caused by lack of sleep.
Even one night of poor sleep, less than 5 hours, can throw you off your game.
Here's a short list of how chronically poor sleep can affect you.
- Lower resting metabolic rate
- Increased ghrelin levels (hunger hormone)
- Elevated cortisol levels (stress hormone)
- Decreased leptin levels (satiety hormone)
- Increased susceptibility to poor food choices
- Overeating tendencies
- Weight gain
- Emotional stress due to guilt from poor food choices
- Hormonal responses exacerbating emotional stress
I know we all have to work and make money but when you have multiple days in a row when you know you're going to be expected to perform at your best and are expected to be somewhere at a certain time then you should flex that discipline muscle by setting up a bedtime routine so that you can get to bed with enough time to have 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep.

It's difficult for me to write this but I want you to understand where I'm coming from.
I've been guilty of procrastination, especially when I don't really know what I'm doing.
Sometimes just thinking about all stuff that I need to learn how to do for my success gives me anxiety. I like to think that I'm a disciplined person but sometimes I falter.
One thing I've learned from pulling all nighters and filing my taxes on the weekend before they're due is that whatever I'm avoiding is not that big of a monster once I break it down into smaller tasks that I execute one at a time.
I started my taxes a month ahead this time and I've recently started to reframe how I view the things when I am unsure of what needs to be done. Now, instead of finding other things to do instead of what needs to be done, I run towards that monster and reach out to someone one with experience once I realized that most of my anxiety stems from not knowing what to do.
Instead of running away from your problems, run towards the uncertainty but have someone on the phone that knows where you're going.

🚫 Don't just sit in bed all day, keep moving to the extent that I can without pain.
🛑 Stop stretching the injured muscle.
🤕 The hamstring is already strained so stretching more will aggravate the injury.
🚶🏽‍♂️ Select exercises that work the injured muscle without causing pain.
🐌 Move through the range of motion slowly to prevent overstretching the muscles.
🥩 Eat a balanced diet Rich in Protein to give my body the building blocks it needs to rebuild.
😴 Sleep 8.5 to 9 hours per night to let my body heal.
🤔 Remember to not sprint 100% when my legs are already fatigued so this is less likely to happen.
Hope you all can learn from my mistakes and keep making progress.

I had a long day yesterday and I couldn't make it to the gym but after all my work was completed I managed to squeeze in a run, push-ups, and squats before dinner.
I have ambitions and goals so, everyday I execute on non-negotiables so I can move towards and attract things that I want.
That's my idea of manifesting. I'm not standing in front of the mirror shouting affirmations. I'm taking MASSIVE and sometimes small actions, everyday towards achieving my goals.

These pictures were taken one year apart but my bulk didn't start until 12 weeks ago.
I used to be afraid to go on a bulk because I thought that I was going to get fat. But the truth is, I'm stronger than I've ever been and I feel great.
Yeah, I've gained a little bit of fat but I've gained a lot of muscle.
When I cut back down again, my physique will look way better than if I had tried to stay lean this whole time.
I started this bulk with the intention of putting on 10 lb of lean mass to show my followers that it was possible to keep a good physique and be healthy while on a bulk.
I've been logging my nutrition in the Proof of Work Fitness app while following the workouts that have been programmed for me. Tracking my progress these last 12 weeks has been a piece of cake and I've been getting stronger almost every week.

As a Pharmacist and Fitness Coach, I've had a lot of tough conversations with people about how they developed their chronic disease or why it's easier for them in their minds to continue on the path that they're on rather than make a few key changes to their lifestyle.
But when I have conversations with people who are leading healthy lives it's exactly the opposite. They see the things that they do for their health and longevity as non-negotiable. They must do these things and they make time for them.
At the end the choice is yours, are you going to continue to make excuses for yourself and eat your way into chronic diseases and not do any work to burn off the extra calories?
Or are you sick of lying to yourself about how you're going to change next week or after this holiday. Start small, Start now.
If you're reading this, and you know you have some changing to do then start going for walks once a day and if you're already walking then throw in some push-ups and squats.
If you're already doing body weight workouts and walking then start lifting weights and making better food choices.
If you're someone that works out six or seven days a week and eats healthy, maybe take a few days off and do other things that you enjoy and spend time with your loved ones or make some new friends and see them regularly.
We've all got somewhere that we can improve from who we were in the past because it's not a competition between you and I. I'm in competition with my old self.

The 5 Secrets to Get Shredded for Summer
As an online fitness coach one of the Biggest questions I get about getting shredded is HOW! What do I need to do in order to hit this goal without hating the process?
Here are my 5 Secrets to Getting Shredded
1. Cultivate a Growth Mindset by being positive and resilient, don’t beat yourself up but rather learn from your mistakes.
2. You don’t have to do some special diet or anything too restrictive. A balanced diet rich in protein while maintaining a caloric deficit most of the time will do the trick.
3. Incorporate progressive overload into your workouts. Whether it's increasing weights, repetitions, or intensity, this approach stimulates muscle growth and promotes the lean, shredded look.
4. If you wanna lose the weight and keep it off or build the muscle and keep it then you must look at your lifestyle and slowly change one thing at a time into alignment with your goals.
5. Pay close attention to your environment and the people around you. Are they supporting you? If not, then work with a coach, get into a community or whatever you have to do to get some accountability.
Any one of these secrets could be the one that moves the needle for you and helps you achieve this goal before summer. One of these secrets probably speaks to you more than the other ones!

Mindful eating is more than just eating when you're hungry and stopping when you're full.
It's about setting yourself up for success by keeping healthy snacks at your house even when other people may have some less than healthy options.
Just do a quick analysis of your activity for the day, calories consumed thus far, and which choice most closely aligns with your goals.
And I'm not going to front, I ate three oranges, three cookies, and had a great workout that day.

If You can't do 10 do 5, if you can't do 5 do 1. Or you could do wall push-ups or push-ups on your knees.
You can do squats to your chair or the couch every time that you go to the restroom or the kitchen.
Just find ways to work fitness into your life.
But the challenge is for accountability and to just have fun with it.

Think about where you want to be in 5 years, in one year, in 6 months. Now reverse engineer that and think about what it would take to get there.
Everyday have a few non-negotiables that are going to move you closer to your goal.
People from the outside will look at you like you're some type of workhorse that never falters and always get stuff done.
But what they don't see is that you also have hardships, blue spells, and problems in your life but what you don't do is make excuses for yourself or blame others for your problems.
You hold yourself accountable to your future self and you put the work in necessary to be the person that you want to be.
Your goals don't have to be fitness related but fitness helps build confidence that can snowball into success in other realms of your life. People respect others that have the discipline to take care of themselves.
Now put the phone down and do something that's going to move the needle towards your goals today.
