ME/CFS "chronic fatigue" is textbook Long Covid and its onset can be weeks to months after the initial infection. The onset of LC can be fairly sudden and it isn't simply "lingering symptoms." There is a lot of anecdotal stuff about onset after premature exertion or attempt to resume exercise routines. Most LC support groups advocate a long recuperative period of 1-2 months where you do little if any strenuous activity post infections of any severity.

I really wonder how huge the manufacturing defects in their 13th and 14th gen processors will be on their bottom line. If they don't create some sort of unconditional recall/swap policy, they're going to take a huge reputational hit and a lot of people are extremely dubious about the "it can be fixed with a microcode update" line they're trying to sell.

Israel is brazenly launching attacks deep into Yemen, Lebanon, Syria and Iran and it is doing so with US made jets and precision weapons systems. Israel is basically at war with everyone and the notion that this is some sort of localized conflict between narrowly defined parties strains credulity. The US is letting Israel engage in open acts of war with Iran, a huge nation state more than 10 times Israel's population and one which can have at least limited nuclear capability any time it wants.

Probably the biggest story of the moment:
Israel launched an airstrike attack on a major Hamas military figure in Beirut, Lebanon and followed it up with the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political wing of Hamas and one of the chief contenders for the leadership of any future sovereign Palestinian state along with Abbas and Marwan Barhgout, who is in an Israeli prison. Haniyeh was in Tehran at this time to attend the inauguration of Iran's president.

Personally, I usually buy WD usb drives and then shuck them and put them in metal enclusures. I used to have a couple go-to enclosures with an active cooling fan, but they're almost non-existent as a category these days. This is the latest one I've bought, as I wanted the eSATA support.

The best "cheap plastic" design for external USB backup drives is IMO the one used by the WD My Book / Element type of drives. They're plastic, but stand the drive vertically and have vent screens at the top and bottom of the enclosure. Hot air rises and cooler air gets sucked in through the bottom. Entirely passive ventilation, but the chimney effect is better than nothing, which is what most external USB drives offer.

These things are essentially hermetically sealed boxes with almost no airflow. Sometimes the mounting within them doesn't even allow the drive to make contact with the case, so negligible thermal conduction that way. I see very high failure rates in such drives when they used for any sort of continuous duty where large data transfers take place (think whole disk imaging backup).

Wastewater testing the way they're doing is no more meaningful than looking at IFI indicators from hospitals. They represent mixed sources and we've got no way to unscramble the data to know if the H5N1 fragments being seeing are from cow shit, bird shit on the street and roofs or are representative of human spread.
It would make good sense to me to establish nationwide monitoring of hospital sewage outflows as a part of ongoing PH pandemic disease prevention.

At the very least, I think everyone who tests positive for Flu A should be tested for H5 family to see if we're getting cryptic spread. Flu is at a low eb right now and this wouldn't be nearly as many tests as you'd think.
We absolutely need to be establishing the infrastructure now to test for H5 at scale across the US as well.

They're not. That is the simple answer. Someone posted yesterday that they've done something like 53 TOTAL tests for H5N1 in humans. They literally have more infected dairy herds than people tested for H5N1. They're essentially sitting back and waiting for people to start showing up in hospitals in drove. Nothing they're doing could in any way be used for intervention, if the disease started to frequently jump to dairy workers, to prevent its spread to the broader community.

That we sent them at all, at any point in the conflict is unconscionable, that we sent them repeatedly after seeing how they were being used? In my mind, it made the Biden administration party to war crimes. Like, as accessories. I'm completely comfortable with the idea of Biden being indicted and tried before The Hague. Completely unconscionable. They're not precision guided without the addition of additional packages (which have been sent in much lower numbers) and the size of the blast is highly indiscriminate. Completely innapropriate for use in any sort of densely populated urban environments. Deaths have been documents 1/5 to 1/4 mile away from the blast center.

Here is the road getting over-run in two stills. Apparently 3 people have refused to evacuate the town. No idea how long the coastal road to the east or west will last, but the main evacuation route is gone.

This is what the ground deformation data looked like from space immediately prior to the eruption, with over a quarter meter of bulge in the central area. As I said yesterday, the land was positively pregnant and ready to pop.

Icelandic Met is reporting that the fissure is ~3.4 km in length. Magma reservoir estimated at 18-20 million cubic meters of the hot stuff, which makes this either the biggest or second biggest reservoir at start of eruption. Extremely hihg rate of flaw with several large lava rivers flowing away from the rift zone.
The Blue Lagoon has been evacuated.

Looks like the beginning of the eruption started about 2h45m ago and was presages by a swarm of 2-300 tremors. Similar pattern to prior eruptions with a large rift opening up and rapidly expanding in size. Lot of magma pressure behind this at the start and it is shooting magma high into the air. Lots of volcanic gassing.

I'd give you points for originality, except it is more or less the plot of J. Michael Straczynski's television show Jeremiah - a world where all the old people are dead due to a plague and the kids have to reinvent civilization without the benefit of adult tutelage. The difference there was his plague was short but near total, not some gradual slow boil.
I do wonder what Covid +10, +15, +20 looks like in terms of demographic shifts and life expectancy and basic quality of life.

This is not WWII and we are not trying to create an artificial port to deliver sufficient materiel to support an ongoing beachhead invasion prior to the capture of a real deepwater port.

It's a false problem in this case, which the US solved in the most expensive and time consuming way possible. World Central Kitchen solved it in 3 days by using earth moving equipment to build a jetty out of bomb rubble and used it to deliver sizable amounts of tonnage using simple barges well over 2 months before the US arrived for their Rube Goldberg Machine of a JLOTS exercise.

Biden decided to piss on a big section of his base. We pleaded with him for months and months without him listening and he just acted like our votes somehow belonged to him. They don't. My vote belongs to me and I won't use it to return an aider and abettor of genocide to office.

Their justifications for pulling this data (and that is what they're doing, pulling the data) regurgitate government talking points on the PHE being over and respiratory virus seasons. Covid doesn't behave like that, we've had multiple major waves occur in summer. Their own data shows this. What a crock of shit.

The whole thing which made Biobot useful was regularly posting a hard number on viral copies / ml collected in a fairly consistent way over the course of the pandemic and doing it in a timely manner. It let you track waves and understand the magnitude of waves throughout the pandemic better than any other tool. One of the last hard scientific touchstones we had left.

Of the 6 countries which opposed the measure (our of 47 total), the US and Germany figure prominently. The US and Germany together account for nearly all arms sales to Israel, at roughly a 70/30 split. Gee, the two countries which sell them billions of dollars worth of arms every year don't like a measure calling on a halt of arms sales. Go figure.
