These things are essentially hermetically sealed boxes with almost no airflow. Sometimes the mounting within them doesn't even allow the drive to make contact with the case, so negligible thermal conduction that way. I see very high failure rates in such drives when they used for any sort of continuous duty where large data transfers take place (think whole disk imaging backup).
