I suspect there are things we don't know - like users having different experiences for various reasons (e.g. I use an adblocker; bad CC algo as punishment?) & also, channels may be paying, directly or not, for better treatment (e.g. some brand names are never wrong in CC even when everything else is), there may be regional & browser differences & so on & so forth... @npub1fdr…lvhs calls it "twiddling".

Long read but the TL;DR is basically that SaaS is the canary in the coalmine for the #growth fallacy. The arithmetic is so simple it boggles the mind how this mindset came to dominate in the first place: Growth stagnates for these megacorps because there's no more customers. Once you're on 95% of all PCs there's simply no remotely reasonable way to keep growing, let alone grow faster, yet that's what these supposed "business geniuses" expect.

I get the background noise/music thing (no idea why everyone thinks having music under their voice is such a great idea...) but that's not why YT subs don't work. I watch a log of high-quality, straight to mic, music/noise free, well-enunciated videos & it doesn't seem to matter in the slightest - autosubs are almost always nigh-incomprehensible, to the point that when YT subs aren't I assume they're done manually.

Well, Google clearly isn't using whatever you've seen to subtitle Youtube videos, then, because that has to be the worst speech-to-text system in the world - it does all the opposite of what you say, from rando and/or missing caps to ignoring any & all context in order to get the same word wrong 17 different ways in the same clip... I defy anyone to make sense of even the simplest topic based on nothing but YT's subtitles to a video about it.

The job market is so rigged. I spent yesterday evening with a couple of doctors, a cop & a social worker, all of whom are exptected to routinely do their jobs outside normal work hours - a thing everybody agrees is hard, meaning by the logic of hard work = good pay CEOs use for themselves they should be well salaried, but these jobs rank somewhere between middlingly & badly paid (a few specialist doctors notwithstanding), with limited or no compensation for uncomfortable work hours...

Uh, OK - I'm stumped... why in the name of Bonaparte's unmentionables are my .4 nozzles extruding at .8 all of a sudden!? I just replaced the hotend & added a bimetal heat break & no physics I can wrap my head around should lead from either (or both) of those things to double extrusion thickness 🤯
To be clear, this is straight out of the nozzle & apart from the fact that it says 0.4 on the side, I've tried another, also .4 nozzle, same result.
What am I missing...?

My 3D printer has been such a good boi overnight 🤩 running really well these days 🤞
This is an algae shield; my espresso machine gets a lot of sunlight from the kitchen window & the water tank is transparent, which of course adds up to quite a bit of algae growth... I was getting tired of cleaning it constantly, so as a test I wrapped a sheet of black paper around it & it worked perfectly 👍 but it was a bit janky-looking - hence, this lovely thing 😊

The mockups in the backend actually included some models with boobs, I didn't think the hand position was suggestive then, but now that you say it... - maybe I was just focusing too much on the design itself 😝 how about this? If properly constructed, such regulation could also ban "surge pricing" & all the other price #twiddling bullsh*t everyone is trying to roll out - or already perpetrating - right now, like raising prices if they have data showing that this particular customer just got paid, or their biometrics show that the customer is in a hurry, or hungry etc.
It's incredibly predatory & definitely fits the descriptor of "price gouging" & it's likely to be obscured by tech; it needs to be hit hard.

Textbook case of false security. As the article rightly - though inadequately - points out, at the scale of use an accuracy of just 99.9% means tens of thousands of slip-ups DAILY.
Add to this that many inaccuracy problems (with AI & in general) is tied to outliers & tools like this are somehow even worse than doing nothing...

It's been a rule for me since my mid-twenties: I won't work more than half an hour away by bicycle. Preferrably less, of course (my current trek is about 15 minutes) - but more is a non-starter. I will NOT spend more than an hour of every day in transit.
I worked with a dude back then whose commute could easily approach - or exceed - two hours EACH WAY! & I think the shock of learning this steeled me against something like that ever happening to me... 😝

Sexed bathrooms seem stupid to me; I can't see the benefit. Of course, I'm the kind of man who will rather hold it in until I find a civilized place to go than use a urinal, even by myself, let alone with other men; I find it unhygienic (you have any idea how much it splatters?) & uncomfortable, privacy-wise.
So, fully enclosed, lockable, non-sexed tiny rooms. Pretty sure it saves space, too; the building where I work has only those & not that many of them, but still clearly enough.
