I remember that but I never take those photo albums out.
I think some photo apps do a better job of bringing up random memories honestly.
Like memories of a year ago, or your pet, or a vacation randomly popping up on your phone is more likely to be seen by me than some dusty photo album in a closet somewhere.

Most things don’t require a deep dive.
I don’t even think you need to read or listen to an entire book to understand the subject.
There are a bunch of ways to get the basic concept of anything. A short YouTube video, ChatGPT summary of a book/article/study, a podcast, etc. A few short paragraphs, sometimes even just one paragraph is usually all you need to understand the basics.
Want to be an expert in a field? Sure, dive in. But most people definitely get the most value by just digesting a few short summaries of the topic and actually use the extra time to put those ideas into practice.
A great example is the book “Influence” by Robert Cialdini. I read and listened to the book and then heard a clip of a podcast he was on where he explained the 7 principles in 7 minutes or less. Yes, the book has lots of examples but all you really need are the 7 principles and a brief explanation.
Another 80/20 rule in practice.

I believe the higher quality LED lights with high CRI and R values solves a lot of this with quality of light.
This full spectrum lighting would only really be useful for grow lights and current LED grow lights are designed to have those wavelengths for photosynthesis.

I think this is partially true.
LED’s are just efficient showing only wavelengths you can see.
Traditional halogen and incandescents are just controlled tiny fires. Most of the energy is wasted in heat rather than visible light.
I wouldn’t say LED’s are an inferior product based on that.

The right tool in the right hands.
I think ai has the potential to uncover a lot of things. Mainly in scientific and engineering uses. It might be able to figure out previously unsolvable problems or cures of diseases by calculating different possibilities.
But the way it’s used today to generate random photos or as a web search seems like a slight misuse of the tech.
Who knows? I’ll keep an open mind about it.

That’s a great list.
I’d have to agree this is better for overall stress levels.
The first two and last I’ve followed pretty well, only follow a few topics I care about but turned off all notifications to avoid being pulled in.
The phone is surprising though. I would say it’s nearly impossible to let go although recently I’ve been forced to because of an issue porting a number. So for a week now only a few actual work calls come my way and it makes a huge difference. It still feels weird and unfortunately I’m sure some work related items are being missed because of people having access to me on multiple numbers.

What we mostly experience with inflation with fiat is debasement, true. Inflation is simply supply and demand, usually temporary (computer chips delayed because a container fell in the ocean, the product using those chips will go up until things level up again).

If Bitcoin reaches the millions in 10-30 years (I’ve seen bear case of $4M, base case of $13M, bull case of $49M+)…
Will it be due to inflation/debasement or #btc absorbing the market cap of other asset classes (gold, bonds, equities, real estate, etc)?

How well do your probes work?
Mines were always off 10° or so (sometimes more) even after calibrating. Eventually just gave up and just manually test or use them as a worse case scenario for a max temp sensor.

Looking forward to this one. Honestly, the prep is a chore. Approx 30 mins trimming and seasoning.

Great to confirm! As a user worried about tax events (yes, I report taxes).
Is strike the only app that does this? Asking because it would be great to use an app just for this purpose so it’s clear what the intent of the purchase was OR if strike supported multiple wallets within an account. For example, if you use strike to DCA but also spend/receive lightning, it would be great to have separate wallets in your account for reporting purposes and not commingling funds.
That way an account with wallet A exclusively for DCA and wallet B for fiat funded zaps/lightning purchases. Tax reports on the account would be nicely separated.
Possible yet or a work in progress @npub1cn4…3vle @npub1ex7…vyt9 ?

*since we’re in the construction industry (lighting mainly).
We have projects where we quote and it could take a year even two for client to finally pull the trigger. In between there are likely several revisions.
Since it’s higher dollar it’s rare to be CC. Usually check or wire transfer. Smaller orders and online sites could be interesting with lightning and BTCpayserver but then you have to properly manage the channels and whatnot.
Early-ish days still in my opinion.

I might have to message you in the future to see how your process is going. I setup BTCpayserver but haven’t yet pulled the trigger. Our payment flow is different, we don’t really do retail. Most of what we do is high-dollar and estimates could take days, weeks, even years by the time we consult/quote/invoice since we’re in the construction

Treating BTC as cash is fine but I would consider creating an account for BTC in your accounting software since it could become a problem when you reconcile.
It’s a solvable problem for sure, just no one is discussing best practices yet.
Crazy to think this is a 15-year old asset and it still seems early in this aspect.

The problem with any transaction (on-chain, lightning, or other layers) is we go back to the same taxable event.
I buy a cup of coffee with lightning or liquid and it’s a taxable event.
Maybe a bill gets passed waiving transactions less than $10K (or w/e is reasonable) per year from being taxed. That would be insanely positive. Ideally no limits but not holding my breath.
What would be cool, and maybe you know if this exists or not, is having a lightning wallet that smash buys BTC/lightning at the same moment you make the purchase. Only downside is you need a bank account to fund the purchase with fiat unless there’s some other way to do it. I thought about this a few years ago. Vendor still has the same issue though.
For example, I walk into a coffee shop and order a cold brew and we scan the lightning invoice for 8,000 sats (approx $5). The lightning wallet immediately buys the equivalent amount of lightning/BTC resulting in no taxable event for the user since there was no cap gain or loss (bought and sold for the same price). I’m ignoring fees but maybe the wallet can charge a flat subscription fee instead of a service charge/fee per transaction to truly be a no tax event.

Yes from that angle I would agree, just to help the network. I would consider it for sure. In my case, we provide lighting design services (layouts, consultations, photometrics, heatmaps, etc.) and accepting for these services is a no brainer. A few months ago I posted if anyone was interested but had no takers. Could try again in the future, would be a great experience!
The tax laws have to change for it to truly become a medium of exchange.
At the moment, if the goal is to accumulate BTC it’s probably easier to just use some fiat profits and buy BTC directly and hold on the balance sheet. A tiny $MSTR if you will.

Speaking my language here lol. I understand the recording of the transactions. The bulk recording you mention is similar to how some shopping cart software does, they bundle transactions into one invoice you import into Quickbooks or equivalent.
My thing is having to also worry about taxable events and capital gain/loss in general.
For ex: a $1,000 sale could have a COGS expense of $800. The short-term volatility of BTC could be either beneficial if price goes up or a loss if price goes down. Let’s say it takes a few hours or a day and BTC is down 5%. I’d have to sell more than $800 worth of BTC I collected into fiat now to cover vendor COGS (less profit for me). In theory I would have a capital loss but capital gains or loses can’t offset ordinary business income, so it would only apply to future capital gains from BTC or other assets/investments.
Anyway, I think for most small businesses this is added work. Like I mentioned, bitpay does make this easier as they handle it all for you but defeats the point of removing middle-men.
At the moment accepting BTC as payment seems great for soloprenuer service-based businesses with little to no COGS. They might keep all the BTC and pay ordinary income taxes with fiat income from other sales.
Does that make sense or did I complicate it?

I have posted a similar question in the past with little to no engagement. Would like to follow others sharing their experience as well.
I considered accepting but given everything other than holding is a taxable event, it’s tough to keep books. We sell lighting/fans/controls, and a significant portion of sales is COGS. Having to convert a large portion back to fiat to pay vendors adds additional complexity and triggers a tax event and additional bookkeeping (recording cap gains/loss for ex).
This seems much easier to do in a service based business, especially for a soloprenuer, where you might prefer to keep and don’t need to convert into fiat.
I’m aware of companies like bitpay which handle this conversion for you but I prefer not to deal with yet another merchant processor, seems to kind of defeat the purpose anyway.
Hopefully one day tax laws change. If someone thinks I’m mistaken, please let me know. Would be great to be proven wrong in this case, ha!

The balance-sheet cheat sheet:
Hold hard assets and cash-flowing assets on the asset side and debt on the liabilities side.
Method: Use debt to obtain the best cash-flowing assets (real estate rental property for example) using as much of other people’s money as possible.
The hard part is finding assets which a positive yield. A higher return than your interest payments (cost of capital).
Save any surplus cash in hard assets. Do your own research but some examples are #bitcoin, rare art/cars/watches, #gold, S&P 500 index, short-term treasuries, etc.
Avoid holding much cash (the saying cash is trash comes to mind).
Repeat.

Yea, it definitely takes a while and the mandatary 2+ hour rest definitely doesn’t help when everyone’s “hangry”.
People also generally like the pulled pork more than brisket which is surprising to me. Also, I think there’s so much left over brisket that the smoke flavor when reheated throws it off for some reason plus everyone gets brisketed out.
You should try it again but start a lot earlier. Planning on putting this one on at 6-8pm, even if it ends early, these can rest for lots of hours. Once I rested it for 6 hours and it was one of my best.
Have you tried beef ribs yet? Those are probably my favorite of all to bbq.

Went to get a haircut earlier and unexpectedly #bitcoin was brought up, almost everyone said they were “afraid” of it.
I was asked about it and not wanting to go to deep, I just replied with:
“I don’t think anyone should be afraid of it, you just need to take some time to learn about it…
I think the best way to think of Bitcoin is like it’s the best savings account.
Put your money in, hold for the long-term, let it grow, and only dip into it if you really need it.”
That seemed to catch their attention. After some brief back and forth it actually looked like they understood. Older audience by the way, mostly 60+ there today.
Comparing #btc as a savings account seems to be the quickest and easiest way to get the message across without having to pull out @npub1gdu…6nak‘s Bitcoin Standard.

Yes you’re right. I did mention high-yield savings do have 4%+ in my post but there are a few notes on those.
Usually they require someone be 18+ years old and usually have a higher minimum deposit requirement than a regular savings account.
Even at 4.5%, it’s close to break-even with inflation (reported CPI is a bit lower but actual real world expenses are closer to 10% or higher year-over-year).

Homemade ice cream.
Simple to make and nice to know exactly what goes in.
Two main ingredients: heavy cream and egg yolks. Optional: vanilla extract, sweetener of your choice, pinch of salt.
Great way to eliminate sugar, high fructose corn syrup, seed oils, and other junk while still getting most or all of the flavor.

When I was younger, I thought there was a secret I needed to find which would unlock wealth and happiness.
Maybe there’s an expert out there that has all the answers? A guru with information passed down for generations? A book I can find that somehow others missed? If only…
Over the years, I’ve realized there is no secret. No one knows the future. Every guru is full of lies or recycled thoughts. There are few true experts in any field, most are just faking it until they make it.
The one truth I’ve found is keeping your life simple, being honest, and working towards your goals. Some may get lucky, some might have insider info on something, but it’s all temporary and nothing to rely on.
Don’t trust gurus or spend a lifetime searching for that holy grail.
Spend time educating yourself and coming to your own conclusions. At least then, if you fail, it was all under your control and not due to someone’s influence. Live, learn, and move on.
Trust yourself.

The stall can be a pain for sure. Are you on a pellet grill? If so, you can crank it up now to 250-275 since most of the smoke flavor is set by now. Try wrapping in foil around 185 to finishing it off even faster.
Patience is key, especially when everyone is asking “is it almost done???”

When I was young, a savings account mattered. My parents helped me open one up with maybe $50 and the interest rate was 4%+ and inflation was under 4%, real returns were 0% at worst, usually 1-2%. Not shabby.
It was rewarding to deposit money I earned from reselling candy, marbles, cards, even a slightly used chess set and reinvesting and putting the rest in my savings account.
I actually saw that account grow in value over the years and witnessed the power of compounding.
Today, a regular savings account still yields a 0.01% interest rate (just checked Bank of America’s website).
What’s the motivation for a kid (or anyone) to put money away when interest rates are basically zero?
Now add to that the normalization and ever increasing rate of inflation. Earning 0.01% interest (even 4%+ on high-yield savings accounts) when CPI is near 4%, but we all know it’s likely over 10% for most people results in a devastating and crushing reality whether people know it or not.
There’s little chance for an average kid to generate wealth without learning to buy valuable assets, become a top earner in their field, or own a profitable business. Subjects not taught in most schools.
It should be easier for people to save their hard earned money and be rewarded for saving rather than recklessly spending.
The only solutions I found are: control your costs/spending (includes student debt) and own a profitable business, become a leader in your industry so your income grows at or above the rate of inflation, and buy hard assets (acquire rental property, gold, S&P 500 index funds, #bitcoin).
The allocation to one or many of the above depends on the person. Some aren’t suited to own a business, others might stress out investing in stocks or bitcoin. Find what works for you. I highly encourage everyone to spend a few hours every week learning and seeing what fits.
Hope this post helps at least one person. It’s something I wish someone would have told me when I was younger!

I would agree with that. Basically no money printing = no inflation = no asset appreciation.
I guess I think about it differently as I’ve always tried to grow a business and think of it from that angle. From this perspective it’s an active growth vs a static asset (gold in your example) whose value is mainly derived from inflation fears.
I guess the equivalent in macro scale would be gdp. My productivity growth = business growth = capital gains
Does that make sense?

One shoulder is cooking a little faster so wrapping that one first while the other does its thing.
Taking a bit longer than expected, probably because these are a bit bigger than the ones I usually do and it’s two of them.

Good morning!
Pork butt phase 1 progress…
About 9 hours in, first light spritz with apple cider vinegar. Been going at 200° for the last 7 hours (about 170° for first two hours), internal temp 155°.
Now lid closed for another three to four hours before phase 2 (the wrap @ 185°ish). Might occasionally spritz it if it looks dry.

I would say inflation rather than capital gains tax.
Capital gains tax is just the price you pay for participating in capitalism.
The trick is finding ways to offset that tax.

Pork butt phase 1 complete!
No trimming, just scoring. Seasoned and placed on the grill.
The nice thing about pellet #smokers is how hands off it is. I do miss pulling all nighters at times and obsessing about the details but 95% chill and 5% work is worth it for a negligible difference in taste from a traditional smoker.
Now sitting back while the smoker does its thing and I enjoy watching the rest of the #ufc fight tonight. Oh, by the way, congrats on the win @npub1wv7…xye0 !

Any specific examples come to mind?
I think about this often and wonder if it’s just nostalgia and how things used to be.
Or how some romanticize the1920’s and dream of what it must have been like to live in that Gatsby era but those that actually experienced it might have thought it was just normal.

*high five* I think pellet smokers do better with lower temps. Traditional smokers likely do better with higher temps, what pittmasters like Aaron Franklin might say they use. Doesn’t hurt to try!

It’s definitely a balance.
I guess it depends on what point in life you’re in. If you’re trying to get something off the ground and/or maximize youth, I believe putting in max effort is key.
When you achieve success (whatever that means to you), you might considering slowing down and getting things more in balance.

I started late once and went to 250, didn’t come out very good. Definitely try going lower for longer, 300 seems a bit too hot from the start. I think you’ll get better results. I forgot to mention I do crank the temp after foil up to 275-325 depending how late it’s getting. I use butcher paper on brisket, never tried it on the butt.
