We gather in the church of "Holy Cross in Jerusalem." It represents for us the true Jerusalem, the Church of God on earth and in heaven. We are happy to belong to the number of its members.
"The Lord comes to Jerusalem." In His first coming, He appeared in the Jerusalem of the Holy Land. Today He will come to the Jerusalem of our souls, and at Christmas He will come to the Jerusalem of the New Testament, which is His holy Church (Introit). In this Church, all will find salvation: the Jews by the promise made to them, and the Gentiles by God's mercy. And joy and peace will reign through the coming of the Savior (Epistle and Canticles: Introit, Gradual, Offertory, and Communio). In the Gospel, St. John ingeniously proves to us that Christ is the Messiah and that He is the one who heals all our weaknesses and blindness, raises us from death, and grants us the life of grace. Therefore, see, Christian soul, the joy that will come to you from your God (Communio).

The Road Home: Scott Hahn Reflects on the Second Sunday of Advent

Philippians 1:4–6, 8–11
Luke 3:1–6
Today’s Psalm paints a dreamlike scene—a road filled with liberated captives heading home to Zion (Jerusalem), mouths filled with laughter, tongues rejoicing.
It’s a glorious picture from Israel’s past, a “new exodus,” the deliverance from exile in Babylon. It’s being recalled in a moment of obvious uncertainty and anxiety. But the psalmist isn’t waxing nostalgic.
Remembering “the Lord has done great things” in the past, he is making an act of faith and hope—that God will come to Israel in its present need, that He’ll do even greater things in the future.
This is what the Advent readings are all about: We recall God’s saving deeds—in the history of Israel and in the coming of Jesus. Our remembrance is meant to stir our faith, to fill us with confidence that, as today’s Epistle puts it, “the one who began a good work in [us] will continue to complete it” until He comes again in glory.
Each of us, the Liturgy teaches, is like Israel in her exile—led into captivity by our sinfulness, in need of restoration and conversion by the Word of the Holy One (see Baruch 5:5). The lessons of salvation history should teach us that, as God again and again delivered Israel, in His mercy He will free us from our attachments to sin if we turn to Him in repentance.
That’s the message of John, introduced in today’s Gospel as the last of the great prophets (compare Jeremiah 1:1–4, 11). But John is greater than the prophets (see Luke 7:27). He’s preparing the way not only for a new redemption of Israel but for the salvation of “all flesh” (see also Acts 28:28).
John quotes Isaiah (40:3) to tell us he’s come to build a road home for us, a way out of the wilderness of sin and alienation from God. It’s a road we’ll follow Jesus down, a journey we’ll make, as today’s First Reading puts it, “rejoicing that [we’re] remembered by God.”

What is KYC?
#KYC stands for "Know Your Customer", a process designed to protect financial institutions against fraud, corruption, money laundering and terrorist financing. Or at least this is what they want you to believe.
The truth is that KYC is a direct attack on our #privacy and puts us in disadvantage against the governments. True criminals don't care about KYC policies. True criminals know perfectly how to avoid such policies. In fact, they normally use the FIAT system and don't even need to use cryptocurrencies. Banks are the biggest money launders, the HSBC scandal, Nordea or Swedbank are just some examples.
Chainalysis found that only 0.34% of the transaction volume with cryptocurrencies in 2023 was attributable to criminal activity.
#Bitcoin's share of this is significantly lower with 25%! Illicit transactions with Euros accounted for 1% of the EU's GDP or €110 billion in 2010.
KYC only affects small individuals like you and me. It is an annoying procedure that forces us to hand our personal information to a third party in order to buy, use or unlock our funds.
We should start boycotting companies that enforce such practices. We should start using cryptocurrencies as they were intended to be used: without barriers.

На сайте есть два крупных постепенно пополняемых раздела: "Действительно запрещённые книги" и "Библиотечка военного вождя". Ну и помимо этого – блог с дежурными заметками.

По какому принципу Кулак выделяет книги в качестве действительно запрещённых? Туда попадают тексты, за хранение которых людям назначают реальные сроки. Тексты, авторы которых разрушили свою карьеру их публикацией или даже были за это убиты. Тексты, которые не переиздают, несмотря на явный спрос, и они становятся библиографическими редкостями. Тексты, на которые не ссылаются. Это могут быть тексты пуританские и порнографические, расистские и антирасисткие, коммунистические и фашистские, написанные оппозиционерами и президентами. Главная объединяющая их черта – авторы написали их не для галочки в резюме, не для прибыли – а из потребности высказаться, даже несмотря на возможные санкции. За эту искренность наша кошкодевочка и выделяет их из общей массы литературы.

Очень впечатляющая подборка материалов по созданию вооружённого формирования, его мотивированию, управлению и собственно ведению военных действий в самых различных аспектах (в числе прочего там есть и ссылка на “Правовые системы…” Дэвида Фридмана, перевод которых я сравнительно недавно опубликовала). Какими основными принципами руководствовалась автор подборки?
Во-первых, никто из читателей, скорее всего, понятия не имеет, в какой конфликт, и какого именно сорта конфликт он внезапно будет вовлечён. Поэтому просто тренировать какой-то один конкретный навык, вроде стрельбы – недостаточно. А тренировать все навыки, которые могли бы пригодиться в самых разных конфликтах – нереально. Но освоить литературу по теме – вполне реально. Подавляющее большинство военных конфликтов ведётся непрофессионалами.
Во-вторых, лучшая книга – это та, которую вы читаете. Пока она просто лежит где-то в сети, толку от неё немного. Но в случае приближения реального конфликта можно хотя бы залезть в уже готовую подборку и прочитать именно те материалы, которые представляются актуальными, если они почему-то не были усвоены заранее.

К сожалению, Кулак несколько плавает в технических вопросах, связанных с Украинской войной, но когда дело касается более широкого анализа, её мысли довольно интересны. Скажем, пост о насилии, посвящённый недавнему убийству страхового магната, риторически весьма силён, хотя и вызывает вопросики с позиций австрийской экономической школы.
Короче говоря, на кошкодевочку я подписалась, для этого пришлось зарегиться в субстеке. Есть вероятность, что даже размещу копию своих собственных заметок на этой платформе, но не очень большая: платные публикации там требуют использования системы stripe, которая, в свою очередь, требует привязки банковской карты, причём не черногорской и не российской, идут они в баню. А раскачивать ещё одну площадку с бесплатными публикациями имеет смысл, лишь если я начну, скажем, писать на английском.

Following a discussion in our team we want to clarify that we are no longer requesting moderators to remove content relating to jury nullification in the context of violent crimes when the crime in question already happened. We will still consider suggestions of jury nullification for crimes that have not (yet) happened as advocation for violence, which is violating our terms of service.
As always, if you stumble across content that appears to be violating our site or community rules, please use Lemmys report functionality. Especially when threads are very active, moderators will not be able to go through every single comment for review. Reporting content and providing accurate reasons for reports will help moderators deal with problematic content in a reasonable amount of time.

Initially I looked at curriculums at this site https://cathyduffyreviews.com/ I have heard that maybe it hasn't been kept 100% up-to-date. I haven't used it for a long time.
I have 2 sons. One is near genius. He has been reading at the college level since 2nd grade and we studied relativistic physics two summers surrounding 9th grade, just for fun. My youngest has Down Syndrome. He is 17, but is about the 3rd grade level in most things. Both were very different, but the best thing about homeschooling is being able to customize school to be optimal for each kid's learning style, interests, strengths, and weaknesses. If you have two such different kids, it can be a bit tricky since what worked for one didn't work for the other and vice versa. There are a lot of curriculums that are designed to work for multiple grades. The science and history curriculums I used have one reading for all and 2-3 levels of activities and/or tests to match kids at different levels so you can use the same activities with kids of different ages.
I tend to like using different curriculums for each subject, but there are all inclusive curriculums that help you with everything. I like having more flexibility. As time has gone on, I've gotten farther and farther from formal curriculums, but they can be a good place to start when you don't know what you are doing. The plan should be to build a love of learning and a closeness of relationship rather than to make things look like government school done at home. If your kid shows interest in a subject, stop what you are doing and research it together. Follow those interests because they will be some of the most effective "educating" you will do and might lead to a hobby or career. Any time you can relate something you are teaching to an interest, they will learn more and that learning will stick.
Until high school, don't worry too much about grades (unless your state requires it), but teach to mastery. If they pick up something fast, move on. If they are having trouble, spend more time, find resources online, etc. until they fully understand. This is true even if they are behind in a subject. You want a strong foundation for future learning.
One of the funniest things is when a homeschooler is asked "What grade are you in?" "Well officially I'm in 8th grade, but I'm doing 10th grade math, 9th grade history and 7th grade vocabulary."
Demonstrate a love of reading. When someone can read well, they can teach themselves whatever they need to learn whenever they need to learn it. Don't worry about missing something important. With the internet, any fact needed can be found quickly. The important things are to learn to read, write, do basic arithmetic, and to do research for themselves.
I homeschooled for my kids, but I benefitted as much as my kids. I got to relearn things I forgot. I got to unlearn things I was taught that were wrong. I built a strong relationship with my kids and we don't have the normal defiant teenagers. Kids know that a parent, who spends the time to teach them, truly loves them.
When it comes to resources, they can be really expensive to free. They can be all inclusive, or just related to a specific skill you want to teach. They can be secular or religious. There are so many options, you will definitely find something that will work for you. If something doesn't work well, then move on and try something different. Some of the resources we have gotten have been truly amazing. Others haven't worked well and we changed to something different, usually the next year, but twice shortly into the year.
