Marine Le Pen Responds to Jab as Political Violence Casts Shadow over French Parliamentary Elections
From Steve Bannons War Room
France is gripped by escalating concerns over political violence as the country prepares for high-stakes parliamentary elections this weekend. A series of alarming incidents, including physical assaults on lawmakers, has underscored the tense atmosphere surrounding the electoral process. President Emmanuel Macron, taking a jab at Marine Le Pen, has issued stark warnings about the potential […]

so your argument is that because "nobody" uses bitcoin (with it's 1 trillion market cap, ok)
sorry, your argument is dead in the water right there
bitcoin has already shifted most of the small transactions to lightning and the rest of that margin is going to ecash (chaumian ffs not ethereum you ahem)
lightning's network is not fully known
payments can fail because you pick a route where one hop doesn't know the next hop doesn't exist (this is a problem i hit up against with my work trying to build a replacement for tor that is based on lightning source routing protocol)
market is always right, and most people still pay for drugs with bitcoins, and there is this rabid, agitated asshole brigade called "moneros" who still believe against practical evidence that coinjoins and mixers are less than ring signatures
good luck with that

My request to all American patriots on IndependenceDay! 🇺🇸 Today, as we celebrate, let's remember the immense sacrifices of our Founding Fathers, mothers, and all who fought for our freedom. Looking ahead to November, a RED wave isn't guaranteed by past debates—we must act! Get involved, reconnect with our Judeo-Christian roots, and ensure every American is registered to vote. Let's make calls, send texts, and use social media to spread the word. Commit to at least 15 outreach efforts each month. It's up to us to secure our nation's future. #VoteRed #IndependenceDay #4thofJuly #bowmanformansfieldct

Totally get it. Family should be a big deal, I wouldn't cut them loose for the extreme privacy, but I probably would prioritize only chatting when I'm not working or driving or something, like most do anyway.
Tell me about it, I just probably had more time on my hands man, it was brutal just getting this far with the 6y/o junker device I have now.
I remember growing up playing the answering machine back to see who called and making a list to call them back. The only time you could talk was when you were at home or work. Anything else wasn't possible. You'd change the message if you were going somewhere, change it when you got back. And if you didn't answer people weren't upset. Miss those days.
Not much of a Blake Shelton listener but Austin comes to mind every time I think of this stuff :)

I hear you. In the states, in just about every area there are support bunnies that get hired out to go to universities and hospitals etc.. snakes and reptiles go to high schools etc. I believe it depends on holding providers of these services to humane standards. Getting to touch and "untouchable" animal can foster a lifelong facination for the conservation of the species.
Weird how most people are okay with eating roos, but not holding koalas. Yes I know roo are like deer in the states and they are considered am invasive species, but still it seems if the animal is considered deadly or a food source, the rules change. I was just as over the moon to get to hug and feed the free-range roos as I was to hold the koala.
IMO regulations around supervised handling should be enforced, maybe even be updated with increase fines for infractions, but it would be a sad day if people are prevented from having close-up experiences with these beautiful animals 💜

S&P/TSX composite gains 20 points Thursday with U.S. markets closed for July 4
==========
The S&P/TSX composite index closed up 20.35 points at 22,244.02 on Thursday, with U.S. stock markets closed for the July 4 holiday. Investors are focused on Friday's jobs numbers in both the U.S. and Canada, which could have implications for interest rate cuts in both countries. Economists expect the U.S. economy to have added about 190,000 jobs in June. The U.S. Federal Reserve is considering when to start cutting its key interest rate, with markets seeing September as a possibility. The Bank of Canada recently announced its first interest rate cut in years, and Friday's jobs report is expected to add to evidence of a slowing economy. The Canadian dollar traded for 73.46 cents US compared with 73.33 cents US on Wednesday.

What to know about Venezuela's election as Maduro faces the toughest race of his decade in power
==========
Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro is facing a serious electoral challenge in his 11th year in office. He is being challenged by former diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia and eight other candidates. The official campaign period for the July 28 election has begun. Maduro's government has barred opposition candidates from elections and painted them as out-of-touch elitists. The opposition candidate María Corina Machado, who emerged as an opposition star in 2023, is not on the ballot due to government actions. She has thrown her support behind Edmundo González Urrutia. Maduro's popularity has dwindled due to an economic crisis, corruption, and government mismanagement. More than 21 million Venezuelans are registered to vote, but the exodus of over 7.7 million people is expected to reduce the number of potential voters to about 17 million. The election is taking place under conditions of increased repression of critics and opponents by the government. The Biden administration ended the sanctions relief it granted in October due to the government's actions against the opposition.

The three pillars that Malaysia needs to improve
==========
Malaysia needs to improve in three key areas: technology, research and development (R&D), and digital products. While Malaysia has performed well in trade, particularly in the manufacturing sector, it lags behind in these other areas. The Toulouse School of Economics Centre of Collective Learning director, Prof Cesar A. Hidalgo, highlighted that Malaysia is not a big exporter of digital products and ranks low in technology and R&D. Prof Tan Sri Noor Azlan Ghazali, director of the Malaysian Inclusive Development and Advancement Institute, noted that research is primarily conducted at the university level, with limited involvement from corporate players and industries. The lack of a strong knowledge base and research capabilities hinders Malaysia's ability to generate and export products. Additionally, the article discusses the challenges of capturing digital trade and the need for Malaysia to focus on manufacturing rather than just assembling products. The article also mentions the importance of rewarding talents and attracting skilled migrants to strengthen the country's complexity and promote economic growth. The New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) aligns with PNB's three-year strategy to position Malaysia as a high-income economy with greater economic complexity.

Feeling grateful that I got to hug a koala at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary 🫂🐨
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3ge1vn783eo
I agree with Steve Irwin who went on the record to argue that these experiences help conservation efforts.
**“When people touch an animal, the animal touches their heart. And instantly, we’ve won them over to the conservation of that species,” the late conservationist once said.**
And the Queensland government say there are clear rules around this. For starters, the koalas cannot be used for photography for more than three days in a row before they’re required to have a day off.
They can only be on duty for 30 minutes a day, and a total of 180 minutes each week. And females with joeys must not be handled by the public.
“I used to joke, as the environment minister, that our koalas have the best union around,” said Queensland Premier Steven Miles.

OpenAI hit by two big security issues this week
https://o.aolcdn.com/images/dims?image_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fs.yimg.com%2Fos%2Fcreatr-uploaded-images%2F2024-07%2F46cf0580-3a4d-11ef-8b2a-041920eb093c&resize=1400%2C855&client=19f2b5e49a271b2bde77&signature=eac498eda33cf56c91a90dafdd38b6de34aeab29
OpenAI seems to make headlines every day and this time it's for a double dose of security concerns. The first issue centers on the Mac app for ChatGPT, while the second hints at broader concerns about how the company is handling its cybersecurity.
Earlier this week, engineer and Swift developer Pedro José Pereira Vieito dug into the Mac ChatGPT app and found that it was storing user conversations locally in plain text rather than encrypting them. The app is only available from OpenAI's website, and since it's not available on the App Store, it doesn't have to follow Apple's sandboxing requirements. Vieito's work was then covered by The Verge, and after the exploit attracted attention, OpenAI released an update that added encryption to locally stored chats.
For the non-developers out there, sandboxing is a security practice that keeps potential vulnerabilities and failures from spreading from one application to others on a machine. And for non-security experts, storing local files in plain text means potentially sensitive data can be easily viewed by other apps or malware.
The second issue occurred in 2023 with consequences that have had a ripple effect continuing today. Last spring, a hacker was able to obtain information about OpenAI after illicitly accessing the company's internal messaging systems. The New York Times reported that OpenAI technical program manager Leopold Aschenbrenner raised security concerns with the company's board of directors, arguing that the hack implied internal vulnerabilities that foreign adversaries could take advantage of.
Aschenbrenner now says he was fired for disclosing information about OpenAI and for surfacing concerns about the company’s security. A representative from OpenAI told The Times that “while we share his commitment to building safe A.G.I., we disagree with many of the claims he has since made about our work” and added that his exit was not the result of whistleblowing.
App vulnerabilities are something that every tech company has experienced. Breaches by hackers are also depressingly common, as are contentious relationships between whistleblowers and their former employers. However, between how broadly ChatGPT has been adopted into major players' services and how chaotic the company's oversight, practices and public reputation have been, these recent issues are beginning to paint a more worrying picture about whether OpenAI can manage its data.

not much to really talk about exactly, but i just got done making the subscription ID parsing correct, there is now working and tested auth envelopes and count envelopes are still to be made, and no, reqs, ok, notice, etc, not done yet
will be done soon
i'm fussy about this and i'm not saying it's done until my random-generated data based tests say theys done
there's some actual rules about subscription IDs that you can find in nip-01 and the count nip, i forget its number, they have to be 1-64 characters long, and valid json, so that's a few criteria that i test on and throw errors if they don't line up, invalid json is just right out
really, one should not write subscription IDs that have any backslashes or nonprintable characters in them, unless you are a dirty nazi pervert, my code makes sure that even if you write such dumbass nazi code that it will be cleaned up for the public viewing

Manufacturers in Rivers State face challenges like high power costs and a non-friendly operating environment, leading to factory shutdowns and job losses. To revive the manufacturing sector, stakeholders must collaborate to streamline processes, reduce costs, and implement investor-friendly policies. The media also plays a role in changing the negative perception of the state to attract investments. In Delta State, the government prohibits water journeys without safety measures after a boat mishap. The National Inland Waterways Authority introduces a waterways code to prevent accidents and encourage investment. this is why kind 4 DMs are not as insecure as you might think
revealing the contents requires revealing your key, because the signature is not on the plaintext, it's on the encrypted text, so you decrypt it, you lose the authenticity, and thus, your credibility
it's hearsay
if you complicate things with further schemes like double ratchet, compromising one message is easy enough, but the other side has to see all the shit as well so they can compromise every message they receive
WITHOUT REVEALING THEIR SECRET KEY
so, actually, it's arguable what is better, if the threat model is betrayal

What I’m going to say here, and now, contradicts everything we declare daily (decentralization); but I like the Santander bank. I’m an investor and a customer! Although I am insignificant for the institution -, given all the others I have ever used, it is the only one that improved my credit quality, card limits and when I had financial difficulties, it gave me the opportunity to get back on my feet, without interest - even when I was restrictive at the time.
Maybe he didn’t do anything else, since I had assets under warranty, if something wasn’t as expected, but while others did nothing!

the replacement operation is not usually that expensive... i had a phone fixed in Budapest that got gunked or otherwise messed up (micro) for 20 euros
but it's avoidable and in the circumstances i was mostly not plugging it into a charger
the simple fact is that usb micro, and to a similar but maybe lesser extent, usb C is just fucking shit design, a bunch of wires embedded in some plastic, when much more robust and time proven is the old printed circuit board etched off regime, like the apple style
