I've been looking at some bios. Now it occurs to me I could list a whole lot of isms and say I'm against them, but how about I just say I don't like to see people getting picked on. It's not fair and it's not right. How simple was that?

Incidently, I could also hold the position that abortion is wrong and still say the woman has the choice.
And that would be exactly the same with euthanasia and drug use.
In fact I'm sure using addictive drugs is a bad choice because it tends to cause crime.
I still don't think we should ban it.

I don't really hold a position on abortion as such, but I am a libertarian and I believe people should be able to choose what to do with their own bodies.
I hold the same opinion on euthanasia and drug use.
I tend to like consistency in morality.
It's the same reason I don't think you can be against manslaughter and then conscript soldiers and pretend we didn't know what would happen to them.

In this particular case we're talking about a right wing conservative elite who can support laws that stop poor people getting abortions while they pay for their own daughters to evade those laws.
I'm categorically certain this happens. I'm not gullible enough to believe the rich Governor would stick to his own laws. He only expects poor saps to do that.

I'm referring to the cost of travelling to get an abortion in a more liberal state of country. That barrier only applies to poor people.
The restrictive laws in Alabama only apply to poor people, because rich people can circumvent them so easily.

#Pidgin actually worked a lot better. Many of the #plugins are no longer maintained but it still works with quite a few #protocols.

That's a really good point actually. I hadn't thought of it from that angle. I remember a Gnome client called #Gwibber from a very old version of #ubuntu that connected all sort of social networks.
In a way Gwibber was ahead of it's time because few had the bandwidth for anything like a smooth ride back then.

I think there's quite a lot wrong with the #misskey #gui but I guess it must make sense to people who use it because it's used by a lot of people.
I will say, it federates very well with the rest of #fediverse. In fact it's a lesson in how #activitypub should work.

Now here's a #strange thing. @npub1z2p…9wfy no longer seems to work properly on #Chrome on #linux
It still works perfectly on my #Chromebook though. I'm guessing it still works fine on Chrome for #windows too but i don't have that option to try.
Do you guys at #elk know anything about this? It's kind of annoying. All my other #WebApps seem to work.
The ones I know that still work were written in #typescript if I remember. I don't know what Elk is written, so I'm really just grabbing at straws here.

I was thinking of #Alabama and #Louisiana, but being European my #definition of a ban is probably different to yours.
My take is, if it's really only rich people who can afford it, it's not really available, so it's been banned.
You could argue #Twitter isn't really banned in #Brazil because rich people who own houses elsewhere can still access it on a VPS.
But Twitter is effectively banned in Brazil and #Abortion is effectively banned in Alabama

The elephant in the room is the fact that we're actually not the end of evolution. The earth won't die because of climate change.
But we will and maybe that's okay because we were just the dinosaurs 2.0. We're not actually special at all. We're just a lucky fluke.
Despite obvious evidence supporting it, that's so unacceptable to us we'll believe anything rather than face it.

People on the left and right tend to look for villains, but often these things can't actually be controlled. That's how conspiracy theories work.
We hate the idea these things happen and there's nothing we can do about it. We hate it so much we make up villains.
And the right does that just like the left. In the scenario I described the made up villains are the childless cat women :)

Well I must admit I tend to go back and look at what they've said in the past to see if they're consistent or just power seekers.
I've lived a long time though; long enough to see these things equalise. It's often about unintended consequences.
For example the recent abortion bans have actually made women more cautious and lowered the birth rate. That in turn makes workers more expensive and creates a need for immigration.
Unintended consequences. Happens all the time.

I honestly think the issue is, your #media is too polite.
It's not the #stereotype, but I think #Americans are very polite people, but that's not what you need from a political interviewer.
Neil is rude, adversiarial and belicose, but it works because he doesn't deal in skirt arounds. He asks direct questions and does it bluntly.
I don't think Neil is a very nice guy, but you don't need nice guys interviewing #politicians. You need bloodhounds.

Whether someone wins an argument is rarely based on anything more than interlocutory skill and #intelligence.
I remember when #AndrewNeil tore Ben Shapiro apart at the seams, not because he held any malice.
#BenShapiro just wasn't anything like Neil's intellectual equal. This is a real takedown. Shapiro never really recovered.

But #JDVance has talked about restricting some speech. He's only for his free speech, not mine or anyone else he disagrees with, so he's not really free speech at all.
Either he accepts all speech, including for Palestine and against Israel, because it's just another country, with an autocratic ruler, or he's a hypocrite.
In fairness to him, he swivelled on a stick to support #Trump on anything #theorangeone's heart desires so maybe he's just a loyal serf.

To allow radical free speech you have to allow everyone to speak freely and that includes letting them promote #blasphemy, #polyamory #communism and #anarchy.

It never happens, cos when you know someone you're not impressed by what they do. You're used to it.

It's hard for me to see US politics clearly from here in the UK, but it does seem to me the Dems were hoist by their own petard here.
For quite a while they harped on Trump's incoherence until it no longer mattered because his supporters started to just accept it.
So the reason this isn't an issue for Trump is because his supporters don't care; Biden's do.
