I feel similar, as a disabled trans woman married to another disabled woman. Ableism is a big deal in immigration systems.

If the Olympics and/or Paralympics were actually fair to trans women, 6 medals would be in the hands of trans women after each of the Olympics and Paralympics. (a very conservative estimate of roughly .5% of the population is trans). That’s if cis women do not have any sort of athletic advantages over trans women in the games.
Turns out there is less than that winning at the Olympics or Paralympics. A lot less. Like zero. Yet we still have whining about “fairness”.

We lock up more people per-capita than anywhere.
We have more gun violence than anywhere.
We believe rape victims should have to give birth if they get pregnant.

If you’re a white American, take Juneteenth off if you can.
This normalizes the celebration as a holiday. And it’s our history too as Americans. We should celebrate Americans being freed from slavery!
We should center Black people, for sure, on the day. But one way of doing that is treating it like any other major holiday. Taking the day off helps establish this as a norm and makes it easier for Black employees to also take the day off. Besides, we all should be celebrating and reflecting.

A side benefit of organizations that actively promote inclusion is that it causes some people who don't have a community-oriented mindset to self-select out of the organization.
If you care only about what you can get out of an organization (and not what you can both give and receive), you probably don't care about it being inclusive to people not like you. Indeed, you might feel such actions actively harm your ability to receive.

The highlights of #PyConUS for me was the neurodivergent open space. I'd encourage anyone to do something similar at a conference that has open spaces: If you haven't found your people, but know they are there, reserve an open space for a bit for them to meet. They probably want to meet you as much as you want to meet them!

Another #PyConUS accessibility thing that is *HUGE* but never seen as an accessibility thing:
SIGNAGE.
Having signs outside talks saying what talk was next, having signs directing you towards lunch or checkin, etc, is a big deal.
For anxious people, or people who have rejection sensitivity, or people who have social-related trauma, knowing the door you are about to open is the right door is a big deal.

"FEEL" is an internal state, that is very subjective.

As someone in the gender studies academic field, I seriously question the usefulness of theory that is not communicated in ways that the majority of the community it talks about can understand. So much feminist theory is impossible for someone without a post-grad degree to understand.

Nearly every transphobic thing people say about trans surgeries could apply to child birth.
Child birth can cause permanent damage and trauma. It can be a source of regret. It can cause PTSD. It can be life threatening. It can make future intimacy difficult and painful. It can be the most painful thing someone goes through.

I help facilitate a trans support group. One of our agreements is to not talk about us doing illegal things. Not because I’m bothered if someone is doing prostitution or because someone who is raped is not forced to carry his fetus to term or because I care if someone buys HRT on the street, because I don’t. I believe in bodily autonomy. But our society does not recognize our right to our own body, and the last thing I want is for our group to become the agent of an oppressive state.

As someone who uses hearing aids, I'm asking, no begging, anyone who works at Apple to get a feature added to the iPhone.
Let me *manually* decide to connect to hearing aids. I want to use them sometimes in Bluetooth mode to connect to the phone. But not always. If I'm in a lecture, I don't want a "ding" on my phone muting the audio of the lecture so the phone can grab the Bluetooth of the hearing aids.
Even better: let me select what things the phone will use the hearing aids for.

1) The Dept. of Health has issued restrictions on some trans youth medical care in Ohio (surgery). The governor has also indicated he intends to restrict some adult care and create additional barriers for other youth care.
2) Added Guam to the guide (under US, abbreviation GU). Guam seems reasonably accepting thanks to indigenous history there.

The regret rate is around 20%.
