Good morning/afternoon/evening, depending on where you are at the moment.
Sometimes, I think social media has translated into a relaxing of standards. For example, if you see someone you know on the street and they say Hello or wave, you wave or say Hello back. It's common courtesy. I admit to doing this on occasion, not responding when someone toots a greeting at me, and I'll try to do better. Everyone wants to be seen and acknowledged when they go out of their way to greet. ❤️

I was just talking with a new client, a fellow Gen-X'er. She said what I've said all along -Gen X is not blameless when it comes to the cruel system imposed on middle to low-income earners in the US. Gen X was sold a bill of goods - greed is good, money is all that matters, work yourself to death, and only look out for #1. We didn't have to settle for that, but we did. Our complacency reinforced a culture that emphasizes profit over the common good. We could have fought it, but we didn't.

As a former retail worker, I know how hard the Christmas season is. People are rushed, rude, stressed, and tend to take it out on those who ring up their sales or help them find the right size sweater for Aunt Judy.
Just once, be kind to a retail worker. Be patient. They sometimes endure the worst of human behavior for little pay, and they don't exist to become whipping posts for your frustrations.
If you can't be kind, then at least be patient. They're doing the best they can, just like you.💜

You know, it's okay to admit that the times we live in are getting to you. I'm not sure why so many of us feel the need to pretend this is normal or say we're fine when we're not. It's not only understandable but expected to feel weighed down right now. Whether they admit it or not, everyone is feeling the weight of everything that is happening in our individual countries and the world. Maybe if more of us admit it, we'll feel a sense of community again.

Thinking back to when I worked in HR and the ridiculous employee handbook. FT employees were entitled to two 15-minute breaks, that only smokers took. If an employee worked through lunch, they were a 'team player.' If they took lunch, they were given more to do because they clearly had too much time on their hands. Staying late was expected, but leaving on time was frowned upon. You ALWAYS had to look busy.
Employee burnout is a badge of honor, and the 'badge' is merely keeping your job.

Two Great Horned Owls visited M15 and F23's nest in the early morning hours. See the attached video.
GHOs and bald eagles are enemies. The owls try to take over existing nests, as they do not build their own. Their night vision is better than the eagle's, and they are silent fliers. They are known to knock eagles off their perches in the middle of the night. I wonder if this is the eagle pair that lives in 'nest 2' in the west pasture.

Answer: Unless you have resources, you're forced to work until you drop. The 'work above all else' culture is cheaper. I think auto-correct likes to stir things up. I really do. I think it has an evil side. Earlier this morning, I went to text 'I want to hug you' and auto-correct jumped in and changed it to 'I want to hit you'. (Not kidding! I couldn't believe it). I knew full well no one would hire me at my age because I spent a career with most of my bosses telling me to interview but NOT hire anyone over a certain age UNLESS it was for an exec position. Older = more experienced = more expensive. Simple as that.

I am rarely disagreeable, but there are limits.
I was talking with my parent's neighbor, and he pointed across the street to a man doing Tai Chi on his back deck. He made fun of the man and said he should 'do that stuff' indoors.
I asked if the man was hurting him. Of course, he said he wasn't. I then asked what he would do if someone complained about HIS daily jogs around the neighborhood.
If what someone does doesn't hurt you, let them be who they are. I just don't get narrow-mindedness.

I just went a couple of rounds with Mark over something that could very well be a dealbreaker for both of us should we progress from friendship. Mark is here. He was telling Dad about teaching me to golf. Granted, I give the guy more than enough comedic ammunition that way, so it was funny. Before I left for the hospital this morning, I had coffee on my back deck and turned on my Merlin Bird ID app. There were no birds. Zero. Zilch. I think a person's life should be the top note, not their weight, hair, looks, etc. Compliment someone, but put looks in perspective. They shouldn't come first in a conversation because they shouldn't be the most important thing in the world. Sadly, however, in some parts of the world, looks are STILL the top note for women.

Dad is being transferred to rehab on Monday. They moved him to a different room this weekend, and he now has a roommate. Anyway, I just called to let him know I would be there at 11 or so to visit. Do you know what he said? He told me he was having fun talking with the guy in the next bed and '"You, Mom, and Mark are getting on my nerves, so you can skip a day."
I'm not sure whether to laugh, cry from hurt feelings, or just smile and shake my head. I think it'll be the latter.

When a relationship ends, even if it was mostly due to the actions of one party, I think the other party should do a 'post-mortem,' as they may have contributed to the demise, even if it was in a smaller way.
Regardless of who was to blame, I think everyone needs to do some introspection to prevent baggage from carrying over to the next relationship - unless you want to punish the next guy for the actions of those who came before him!

Take a couple of minutes to get those lungs moving. Breathe in for four counts and out for six. Make sure you breathe from your abdomen. Really pull that breath in then let it out with a sigh. Let those shoulders drop with the exhale.

I'm not sure how it is elsewhere, but I'm noticing a troublesome trend that reminds me of 2015. Of the people I regularly talk to, those who said Trump couldn't possibly win in 2016 are saying the same about 2024. Same attitude, only now with "But he's being indicted' as the reason. It's one thing for the GOP to go all in for the man, but I hope the rest of us don't get lazy & assume he can't win because of the indictments. I hope the trend is just where I live and not indicative of a wider one

@npub1a4h…zg63 My father and I were caught in a rip current when I was 14. The waves were high because of a tropical storm out in the gulf. There wasn't just a rip current; the undertow was also ridiculous.
I was fine, but he was a terrible swimmer who panicked. There was no lifeguard (private beach), and I had no idea what to do. All I could do was try to keep him above the surface until two guys swam out to get us. It was terrifying.
I was a stupid kid and quickly learned what the ocean can do.

With Father's Day coming up, I will say what I said on Mother's Day. I'll post a Happy Father's Day toot, of course, but my thoughts are the same as they are about Mother's Day. It's not New Year's Day, which is more of a general holiday. This is a very specific holiday.

Well…. That was…. 😳
The man I met for dinner (and thankfully I drove myself there to meet him) showed up either insanely high or inebriated. I personally think he was on a really bad trip. It was so bad I took his keys and gave them to the manager, then called the guy an Uber so he didn’t drive home.
I actually laughed myself to death as I drove home. I mean, what else is there to do? My streak continues ! 😂😂😂😂
So, I ordered take out and I’m sitting here laughing. Oh, man. SMH.

So....I am not going anywhere anytime soon.
After my morning client, I went to leave and saw a bunch of people standing by their cars in the lot. Someone went around and slashed tires. I have two that are slashed. That never happens out here.
So...change of plans. Nothing I can do but wait for AAA.

I'm in the US. My father's been in and out of the hospital for a while now. I see fewer people wearing masks every time I visit him or go to the ER. Now, most of the doctors and nurses aren't wearing them either. In fact, my father caught COVID during a hospital stay, and they put him in the ICU because of it!

I'd like to take this opportunity to suggest something - a hand that comes out of whatever device you're using and smacks you when you go to hit 'publish' without alt text OR a hashtag.
I've got the alt text down. I probably have a better chance of sprouting wings and flying to Canada than I do of remembering to add hashtags to my toots.

@npub1e7m…uajd I don't care who my boss is. If he tried to "grab me by the pussy", I'd grab him by the balls. I've worked for sexual harassers and drew the line. Did it cost me my job? Sometimes, but I don't stand for that. Ever. And if anyone's surprised by this, they've had their head in the sand.
