Instead of "Hi! Wow! You've lost/gained weight, cut/grown out your hair, look great/tired/pale/tan," why don't we lead with "Hi! Wow! It's been a while. How's your life?"
I think a person's life should be the top note, not their weight, hair, looks, etc. Compliment someone, but put looks in perspective. They shouldn't come first in a conversation because they shouldn't be the most important thing in the world. Sadly, however, in some parts of the world, looks are STILL the top note for women.
