I used to work in 9-5 software engineering but found it wasn't for me, and then life took me on a ride for a while. Lately I have been working to reboot as an indie developer.

this apparently requires a Windows or Mac computer. all we have are Linux machines.
I've never bothered to try running Windows in a VM. can anyone tell me if there's a low- or no-cost method of getting Windows 8.1+ running in a VM that is unlikely to break whatever test-taking software is used for the LSAT?

I did however use this as another practice iteration of tearing my network at the house apart and bringing half it with me, and it went well.
I brought my laptop of course, and also my personal server / dev box and the Slate Plus travel router. the 24/7 server stays at the house. everything is modular and easy to deal with after all the work I put into it. the small size is such a good feature for this.

I don't pay close attention to window manager development, afaik Cinnamon forked from GNOME many years ago. it's not something I'd use in a VM or a resource-constrained environment but in the context of a daily driver desktop machine... it rarely fucks up even when used heavily for long periods of time, and doesn't cause enough problems to make me mad or even to remember that it exists most of the time :shrug_akko:

@npub1wc2…4sk7 maybe, but the desktop I'm using it with makes fewer horrifying UX choices than the Gnome team, and Cinnamon is (these days) really friggin' stable & fairly sane-acting out of the box for long sessions with multi-monitors and/or lots of virtual desktops :shrug_akko:
I use Gnome 3 a lot bc I use TAILS a lot, really don't love the UX choices compared to Cinnamon as deployed on Linux Mint. (so, other DE-adjacent elements swapped out, Nemo instead of Nautilus etc)

@npub1flv…ctq0 @npub1tps…9rmt I can vouch that, vaped or smoked, it absolutely helps with certain types of anxiety as well as, weirdly, almost any kind of physical discomfort ... it's not a magic bullet, my theory is that it somehow "de-emphasizes" discomfort in the brain
it's a mild effect but helpful in a lot of cases, including drug or medication withdrawal.
this has been my direct experience only. I don't know about eating it, other than you need a lot because most is destroyed in the gut.

I'm going to be interested when AMD does come out with the refresh of their ~35W desktop APU line. it's due next; the likely-similar chips they're bringing out now for high-end ultra chonky laptops are very promising.
the next APUs probably still won't beat Apple silicon on power efficiency, but I can't run Proxmox on Apple's chips, so it's moot to me.
AMD's current consumer offerings still beat Intel on compute/watt, and that matters if you're minimizing physical size.
