I'm going to be interested when AMD does come out with the refresh of their ~35W desktop APU line. it's due next; the likely-similar chips they're bringing out now for high-end ultra chonky laptops are very promising.
the next APUs probably still won't beat Apple silicon on power efficiency, but I can't run Proxmox on Apple's chips, so it's moot to me.
AMD's current consumer offerings still beat Intel on compute/watt, and that matters if you're minimizing physical size.
