my brain doesn't really think mechanically, so it's possible I would have messed with hammocks another five years and not realized this, despite the fact I was cold enough and in a hammock with tons of side material (sized for 2) that I created a "bubble" *above* me with the side material which was super warm as long as it stayed closed.
