I hypenated my name both times, because I really love my birth surname and first name combo. My teenage marriage, I changed my name because that's just what you did in the 80s, I think. I don't remember if it was required or just expected. My second marriage, I didn't change my name until we had a kid, and that's so all of us would have the same names, because emergencies, school registration, etc., it's just easier to get through red tape.

I cannot find any source that verifies the email part of this story. There’s references to Rubio saying he revoked 300 visas a few days ago, and the same screenshot of the email has been posted around, but no major American (or European) media outlet has any report on the emails part.
Don’t get me wrong, I believe they would do something that awful, but I can’t find any proof they have.

So, I am aware that I am coming from a point of privilege because I own a home. When I bought it, the property taxes were less than 2k, and the insurance was about 1k. I’ve owned the place for about 12 years. I just got our annual escrow statement, and it was short. By a lot. And it’s because now the taxes on my house are now 11,000 dollars a year, and my insurance has risen to over 5k.
So, fellow homeowners, be prepared for that escrow statement, maybe take a Xanax before you open it. Three of my neighbors, all who built their homes planning to retire here, are prepping to sell, they’re being taxed and insured out...and honestly, I’m not sure how much longer we can stay either.

I mean, if only women’s votes were counted, we’d have swept the board. There’s also some argument to be made that the states showing in red on this particular dataset is because those areas are mostly unpopulated comparatively, so may not be accurate in a visual cue about actual vote strength. I don’t have the link handy, but I watched a video with a fat scientist yesterday talking about how the data is being manipulated in lots of these maps. This one isn’t egregious as I remember, but the ones showing things like vote movement, or increase in red v blue are almost all suspect.

I'm old enough to remember when women couldn't get bank accounts. (1974). (Technically, women won the right to open a bank account in the 1960s, but many banks still refused to let women do so without a signature from their husbands. Day 4 of #artober / #inktober and the prompt was Exotic.
This one didn't quite work out like I'd hoped. I ended up having to gesso the canvas and did some graffito to reveal the painting underneath, and then some liquid and a knife....and I dunno, maybe it can be saved when it's dry...add the stems and the base of the flowers....I dunno. Sometimes the ideas in your head just refuse to come out. It's all in a day's art, I suppose.

I have thoughts about the Levant, Israel, Western Guilt, and the inherent racism of middle eastern politics.
Jews have always been in Palestine and the rest of the Levant. Arabs have always been in the Levant; Christians, Muslims, Zoroastrians and Jews, pretty much coexisted for thousands of years.
Israel was created by the West because they didn't want Jews in Europe. Plain and simple...and chose Palestine as reparations for German sins.
Not all Jews are Zionists, but Zionism is the founding principle of Israel. (See Irgun) Zionism is just Nazi rhetoric in Hebrew letters. It calls for racial purity, religious purity, and the expulsion of anyone not pure enough.
Meanwhile, America sends billions in weapons, and refuses to acknowledge when their own agencies say Israel is breaking the law.
Israel is about to plunge the planet into war, and America is funding it.

I am unfamiliar with a lot of modern uk history. Can you give me context for when/where this was happening? The photo is amazing. Judging by clothes, I’d guess this to be late 60s, early 70s? Similar pictures in the US in that period had young people lining up against armed guards, but pre Kent State, Americans didn’t think cops would open fire on civilians, so there was a lot more sticking flowers in the guns, general disregard of the danger in the us psyche at the time.

Na, I have lupus and rh arthritis, so I have days where my joints don’t want to cooperate. Most durable medical equipment is not designed for women. That which is, is not designed for women built like rugby players. 🤣. Apropos of nothing, what is the path that leads to risk management? Is it primarily a math based process, or do you also have to factor sociology, pen tests, data containment, etc.? I have an idea of how actuarials define risk, but they don't generally consider continuity, so much as "how much is this going to cost to fix". As an information architect, building redundancy, backup, and contingency is part of the job...but I honestly never thought about how there would have to be similar plans in place at the c-suite for business models.

The nightmare I went through to get a real id. I had to get divorce papers, with court seals on them from a divorce in 1993. Birth certificates, university transcripts, change my social security name, it was absurd. I tell all young women to not change their names, now that we live in a panopticon that can’t access its own data if it’s useful to a citizen.
