I'm completely aware. And it's on my list of things to buy or make, once I get out of the judging eyes of my parents. It's a balance of doing things that make me happy, while avoiding talks that will make me unhappy or worse. So the cheap tail I have for Halloween is chill, but a better tail made to wear whenever I want to is questions I don't want.
I've got good ideas and materials plans for downright decent paws to make. I just need to get some material samples to check out and do it.

Today is another one of those, if I had a few more fox-like characteristics, I'd be happier, kind of day. I need paws to feel and walk on. I need a tail I can hold and feel. I need claws. I know this isn't the main cloud over my head, but I also know I'd be a lot happier with just a little more foxiness. Honestly, just having a good hip mounted tail and shoe- or slipper-based faux paws would go so far to make me feel better in myself. I am just so fox. :neofox_floof_256:

A friend gave me flowers today, for the hopeful graduation, and it made me realize, most of my female friends have received flowers at least once that I know of, none of my male friends have, and this is the first time, as masc-presenting, that I can remember ever receiving flowers. Feels good.

My wonderful friend (who is very nice to commission and made my current pfp), princedetectives on Tumblr made this doodle for me awhile back (first image). I pixelized it manually with permission, edited it a small amount, and put it on a background to make an 88x31 button (second picture)! It will be live on my site soon™. I might be able to commission them for something nicer than my poor pixelization of this otherwise fantastic art later!

@nprofile…exrj According to most studies on the topic, yes! There is a negligible diuretic effect of caffeine, but it shouldn't offset it enough to matter. So coffee (or tea) can realistically count toward daily fluid intake.
(Though, this isn't my field, and I'm just trusting research in that field. Lol)

They tell you stop and smell the roses, but never mean that literally. But also, if you see flowers at sniffing height, and you recognize them and know you're not allergic, go for it. Sniffed of the Viburnum outside one of my school's buildings while walking past, and it made my actually quite mopey afternoon a little bit better.

Sometimes I think I should meet new people and also try to start dating again. But I have no idea how to do that. I want to meet new people and find good people in the world, but I also don't want to use any apps because it's usually people looking for hookups, and I don't think our local bars are a very good space for a young twenty-something. Not that older people are bad. It's just I know I'm just a kid to a lot of folks and if I can't carry a conversation with them about things going on in their life that I could never understand yet, then I'm definitely not of interest to them.
Being a twenty-something in a Southern city with nearly no nightlife and also nearly no daylife is kind annoying.
How meet people?

@nprofile…kgju Just tested it out, and it's very finicky and needs to be firmly on the skin, but it's within 10% of the Moto. Whether thats any good I have no clue, because both are in a vaccuum for me and since I have one on each wrist, it's a bit hard to check manually.

@nprofile…kgju That's interesting. Maybe there were multiple revisions of the PineTime, because mine has a green LED sensor, TianYiHeXin HRS3300 to be precise. I haven't checked it against the Moto watch just yet.
I also have noticed the same thing with Pine though. I want to love their products so much, but everything's really just a devkit. Not that that matters much to me. I like tinkering. But they're hard to daily drive. Given...I'm not sure they mean any of their products to be daily driven. I dunno.

Today I'm wearing both my crappy "Motorola" watch and my crappy FOSS watch for comparison. So far, the Motorola one as usual undercounts my steps, and the PineTime overcounts them. The PineTime counts about 10-15% more.
While driving, the Moto recorded 37 steps that did not happen, the PineTime recorded 42. On the walk from the car to work, the Moto recorded about 800 steps, and the PineTime about 900. It's not crazy, and it seems the algorithms are just choosing whether to over- or under-estimate.
The PineTime (running InfiniTime) does not record calories, but it has a HR sensor, so...it ultimately becomes a matter of software to do the math and show calories burnt. That should be relatively trivial to do, since we can already get HR logging and activity tracking (I don't like Gadgetbridge but I got it working).
Also, it discharged an unfortunate amount. I had it at 46% when I put it on around 7. It is now 9, at 42%. Not terrible but not great.

The fediverse is such a nice place. I've met so many good people here, so many cool people here, learned more than I could've in a professional setting, been able to free myself in ways I couldn't on other social medias and in general can't irl. I'm so thankful that there is a space like this. My very small corner of Cohost was also nice, but for better or for worse, that's not here. What is still here is fedi, and fuck, do I love fedi.

I wish I could listen to more people infodump for all the time in the world. I love it. I love to see passionate people. I love to learn. I love to be filled with the knowledge of others.
I can think of no better way to spend time with someone than to listen to them go on and on about everything they care about, whether that's by itself or while doing something. Everyone should have someone to listen to them, and also more people need to be willing to give listening a shot.

@nprofile…exrj We have a decent furry community at the uni, but it doesn't meet much irl (though it is relatively active on VRChat) When they do meet, it's unfortunately usually evenings, when I need to commute home.
I have a decent friend group with a couple folks that I can do the most reasonable amount of friendly snuggling in pseudo-public spaces with though. I have something at least. ^^

So I have fairly significant shrinkage due to curls, but when I gently pull my hair out to its full length, it reaches quite significantly down my back, but not quite the middle of it yet. It's getting there. This feels so nice. It's something I wasn't allowed to have when I was younger, and it's just nice to have it now.

I don't think about the opportunity cost much, because, any opportunity for a BSc in my area is in an industry I unfortunately cannot participate in, but if I could move elsewhere, I do give up a lot by spending more time on becoming what would be overqualified for many positions.
I don't know what I'll end up doing, as it will largely depend on funding and related matters, but just some things I was thinking about.

I have some professors that very much don't want to be called Dr. despite having a Ph.D. and I'm only now beginning to understand why. I knew since I started college, I wanted to do further education, MSc or Ph.D. because in my field, you only get to teach or get paid for the cool research if you have an MSc at least, preferably a Ph.D. but now I'm starting to question whether I really want everything that comes with that. I would love learning and love being able to teach and research in a professional environment but everyone considers Ph.D.s pretentious and I don't want to be given that stereotype, or worse, become that stereotype. I know so little about things, and a Ph.D. won't fix that. All I want is the piece of paper to prove my dedication to making the world a better place through my science to an employer. I don't want to find myself in a social space where less than 10% of people see me as a normal human being.

I've only lived 22 short years on this Earth, but that's already like a quarter of the way through an average life. Mind, only half a decade has been as a proper adult, if that, but still. Time is a limited resource, and I think it's important to keep that in mind. For every moment you spend hating, that's a moment you can't spend loving. For every moment you spend thinking about things being better, that's a moment you can't spend appreciating how good things are. There's time for wanting more in life, and 100% that yearning, that desire, that want for more, should be part of it. But also, stop and smell the roses, enjoy yourself for who you are, enjoy others who your life better. Just...enjoy. Or at least try. Make it all worth it.

First off, marriage is cool, not saying anyone is wrong. All that follows is just a musing of how my opinion has changed.
When I first starting thinking about relationships when I was 13 or 14, I thought I'd love the concept of marriage and enjoy that, and need that.
But over time I've realized...I don't. That's not to say I don't want a healthy, persistent, monogamous relationship (though I'm open to having my mind changed), but that I no longer feel the need to consecrate it anymore. Two people can love each other without the recognition of the state, and for myself, I don't think I need the recognition of the state or religion.
It's weird how opinions can change and how different one might be between adolescence, young adulthood, and moving into adulthood.

I sometimes slip up, especially in furry contexts and call my hands paws, but I've begun to realize, it actually feels really nice to call my hands and feet paws, at least when it's not important to differentiate. I also like using things with paw as a base verb. "To paw through", "to paw at", and...you know, the like.

@nprofile…kgju A quick test of both openbox and fluxbox
Openbox minimizes by making the window completely invisible, and just being accessible from a task switcher with Alt+Tab.
Fluxbox minimizes to a toolbar by default.
(Configurations as installed fresh from pacman)
Both look promising as very barebones WMs though, and it looks like there's a lot of work for various looks and feels out there already.

@nprofile…kgju Oh yeah, just running openbox gets one most of the way there. It would definitely need to be built on something like that, because it already has most of the features. The main component added would need to be the "Program Manager" like interface. Theoretically, it should be possible to just make that and throw it on any desktop one likes.
Actually now that I think about it, since the "menus" would be extra windows, they would also minimize to tiles in openbox. I'll try this out. ^^
